Pioneer Andrew Jones Designed Center Channel Speaker Single

  • Two 4" Structured Surface Woofers
  • 1" High Efficiency Soft Dome Tweeter
  • 6-Element Sophisticated Crossover
  • 90-Watt Power Handling

Introducing a remarkably affordable center channel speaker from Pioneer, the SP-C22.

Watch any movie on a home theater system, and the center channel speaker is where 50% of the soundtrack comes from, including the majority of the dialogue. It keeps the sound anchored to the action on-screen.

The new Pioneer SP-C22 speaker does the job in stunning fashion utilizing dual woofers in a full-sized cabinet for enhanced vocal performance. If you want your entertainment as real as it gets, the SP-C22 is one of the most important speakers you can own.

70 Years of Audio Firsts

Designed by Pioneer's Chief Speaker Engineer, internationally renowned Andrew Jones, this speaker comes with a remarkable pedigree of over 70 years of Pioneer audio heritage and industry firsts. Like every speaker we build, the SP-C22 is engineered to offer incredible design and amazing sound quality. Some of Andrew Jones speakers run as high as $80,000. For considerably less you can be the beneficiary of his high-end expertise and passion in the creation of this outstanding center channel speaker.

Thinking Outside of the Box

The SP-C22 utilizes a true curved cabinet design resulting in a stiffer cabinet wall. This reduces standing sound waves inside, resulting in high-performance and striking sound quality. Elegant speaker grills do double duty by also doing a superior job of protecting the drivers. The SP-C22, a genuine beauty in the service of exceptional audio reproduction.

The Inside Story

The job of the crossover in a speaker is to break the audio signal into low, high and sometimes mid-range frequencies using circuitry like inductors and capacitors. While the competition uses a simple, low-cost single capacitor /inductor crossover, the SP-C22 utilizes a sophisticated 6 element high quality crossover. Dialogue is crisper. Car crashes are crunchier. Explosions are louder. It's one more way of insuring high quality and accurate sound reproduction from your favorite movies and events.

Whatever your system, the SP-C22 Center Channel Speaker is ready to step it up with authentic audio reproduction to bring your entertainment experience to the next level.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat speaker for the price

Pros: Sound quality, decent efficiency, build quality, binding posts

Cons: Large size

Other Thoughts: The low reviews on this speaker don't make any sense. These are not in the same league as $400/each Def. Tech. speakers, and anyone that can't determine the size from the provided specs deserves what they get. Banana plugs fit just fine once you remove the red and black plastic plugs from the binding posts. For those griping about lack of bass, a center (or most bookshelf speakers for that matter) aren't designed for full range. Floor standing speakers and/or subs are designed for that purpose.

These speakers normally sell for $100, and can be found for about half that on occasion. In that price range, you won't find a better sounding, more clearly defined center channel. I'm actually waiting for the price to drop again so I can add 2 more as my L and R mains.

I haven't listened to the Polk centers because they are too deep for my entertainment center shelf. For rear-facing ports, you should keep the same amount of space behind the speaker as the diameter of the port (1" port = 1" of space behind the speaker), which I cannot accommodate. The CSR would fit, but I want the front speakers timber-matched.

5 out of 5 eggsHigh value/Low price

Pros: I am using a pair of these speakers as my L-R set up.
I am not one to be bothered by size in order to get superb sound as offered by this combination.
If size bothers you listen in the dark.
The advantage is the same as the SP-BS22-LR with the additional benefit of another mid range/woofer speaker.
The stereo imaging is superb.
People can nitpick the heck out of any speaker but this is a remarkable product at a ridiculous price.
The engineering and design of this speaker (and the other in this series) is rarely available in this price range.
Typically found only in upper price ranges.
Do not hesitate to buy these, you will not be disappointed.

Cons: None.
There can't be at this price.

5 out of 5 eggsPioneer sp-c22

Pros: Don't listen to the previous reviewer who stated that the polk cs10 is way better than this pioneer center channel. For the price this center channel can not be beat. I still own a polk cs 1 center channel and it can' t even come close to the musical reproduction of the Pioneer center. Read all over the internet as Cnet, Sound and Vision, HiFi, and many more praise this pioneer center and all of the second run of Andrew Jones built Pioneer Speaker. With my Yamaha and Harman Kardon receivers this C22 produces clear voices in movies, is very musical, lacks any coloration of sound, AND get LOWER than the polk frequency wise without sounding boomy or muddy. At a 6 ohms rating it is easily driven with even the basic of receivers on the market today. The 6-way crossover network literally destroys the crossover in the polk CS-1 and CS-10. The dual ported rear design was an excellent choice for getting these 4 inch long throw drivers to get deeper than most 5.25 inch drivers and to be more accurate in doing so. I own Polk Monitor 40s and the speaker cones barely move. The curved design reduces internal cancellation and the quality of the MDF board is superb at this price range. The silk dome tweeter in this center channel really shines but it does have just a slight sibilance to it at higher volumes. I bought this speaker for $69.00 and had a $30 coupon so it cause me just over 40 bucks... To anyone questioned the quality build and sound of this C22 center channel I recommend you buy it, try it, and I guarantee unless you are the pickiest of audiophiles you will not return it. Also if you are an audiophile why would you even be looking at a $100.00 center channel.

Cons: None at this price range.

Other Thoughts: Pioneer should have charged closer to $300.00 for this center because common consumers think paying more always means better quality. ( Joking!!! )

2 out of 5 eggsWeak and over sized with no advantage!

Pros: It's not the worst center you can get!
Looks nice with the speaker grill on.

Cons: Too large with no advantage to the extra size.
Small 4" drivers are too weak to play low enough!
A 6 Ohm speaker and it's still in efficient!
banana plugs don't fit all the way in the posts!
Still is using that fake plastic black ash veneer that makes it look as cheap as it is!
Does not produce very good male voice's in movies!
The Polk CS-10 has better drivers and real black oak veneer with a side black piano finish that really looks nice and matches my Definitive 450's!

Other Thoughts: I sent mine back and bought a Polk CS-10 for only $90 and the Polk sounds much better!

I waited before sending it back and did A/B comparisons of the two. The Polk CS-10 beat it hand s down. The Polk CS-20 is even better but would not fit on my top shelf!

I own 4 Definitive Studio Monitor 450's and they really showed how weak this Pioneer Center really is! The Polk sounds better but is still a temp. center.

I'm buying the Definitive center with the large race track passive radiator mounted on the top. It sounds absolutely great in the store, so I'm saving up for it. It's worth spending $400 on a really high quality center channel. After all they play about 50% of all the sound you hear during a movie!
The Polk CS-10 and 20 as well as the Polk CSi 4 and 6 just destroy this over rated center!

With a 6 Ohm rating it will clip most amps out rather easily !

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Addition to my Home Theatre

Pros: Great sound, very clear vocals for movies. Stylish look.

Cons: Bit large, but seeing as the top shelf of my entertainment stand was empty I had plenty of room.

Other Thoughts: Definitely worth the purchase if you're looking for clearer vocals from TV and Movies.

5 out of 5 eggslove this speaker

Pros: sounds great. cant believe difference made in sound also cant believe how big it is. explains why my reciever blew my old piuoneer center, off a unit i got 10 years ago. hooked to pioneer vsx-821-k with pioneer sw-8 100 watt sub, pioneer sp-fs51-lr floor standing speakers and surronds from my 10 year old pioneer system 9i expect them to blow also) one more set of speakers to go. i listen to my music cranked up, most time maxed out. my friends love how good it sounds just not how load i play music. I REALLY LOVE THIS UNIT. pioneer still sounds good 10 years later

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: people had problems with reciever and sub-woofer, i have had none.
