3 out of 5 eggsFirst one was defective, replacement works fine

Pros: Receiver sounds pretty good for the price, a bit better than my 10 year old 6.1 sony receiver. HDMI switching, CEC and pass-thru all working properly. Network feature works well enough. Extended stereo mode plays 2ch stereo from all speakers and subwoofer.

Cons: In the manual it states the receiver can play FLAC over network but it is very choppy when I try it. First receiver had HDMI and network problems. Both receivers were missing items from the box. The first one was missing the microphone and ipod cable, the second one was missing the AM antenna. HDMI ports on the back are not great, have to make sure the cables insert properly or they cut out. Android app is pretty basic and slow loading track names but works ok. Remote is a bit cheap but gets the job done.

Other Thoughts: Not very impressed with pioneer's refurbishing abilities. Got lucky and second receiver works well enough. Not sure how so many items can be missing from the box without being noticed by pioneer. Expected better from pioneer.

2 out of 5 eggsNot ready for resale

Pros: More than enough HDMI ports. Sounded great when the HDMI ports were working.

Cons: HDMI did not work properly. Networking did not work at all. I thought maybe a firmware update might help the HDMI issue, but the update requires the unit to be in network mode. When the unit was switched to network mode, there was a "pls wait" message displayed. I waited, and waited, and waited. Nothing. The unit was not recognized on my home network. I tried different cables and different router ports, still nothing. I had to go back to my old Sony that needs servicing, but at least it's HDMI ports work properly.

Other Thoughts: I bought it for the extra HDMI ports and the networking, too bad those were the problems with the unit.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressed

Pros: Discrete output transistors as opposed to large integrated circuit modules. Appears to use an analogue power supply as opposed to a switching one. Relatively easy to set up. Clean power output. Decent owner's manual (on CD). Very good tuner adjacent station reception on FM. Capable network utility. My unit arrived in excellent condition with no signs of wear and tear. Shipping was lightening fast. Very good value for the $150 price.

Cons: FM tuner automatically mutes in stereo mode. FM tuner has no 'high blend' to quiet noisy stereo signals. Only one analog input.

Other Thoughts: Very happy with this unit so far. I hope it lasts as long as the legendary Pioneer units of the past.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat receiver, great deal

Pros: At the sales price, this was an absolute steal. Despite what others may have said regarding functions - all of them work flawlessly. The on screen display isn't that bad although the main setup screen is like other receivers I have from 7 years ago. The Pandora, media player and vTuner displays are better. Not "wow" but acceptable. It's a nice looking unit and sounds great.

The iOS ControlApp works great too, an added bonus. I've testing the Air Play, Pandora, vTuner and iPod interface and all work really well. I'm not sure what others were expecting but at this price range it's fantastic. You don't need anything other than this receiver for network-based music.

Cons: Minor, considering the price point. It doesn't have component input and doesn't do up conversion of non-HD video. It's 5.1 only which might by a drawback for some. It only has one optical input which is dedicated to the TV channel. You can't rename inputs (as others have noted.)

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a low cost receiver that supports much of the modern music stuff you need today, then get this receiver. I'm blown away by how good of a deal this is.

1 out of 5 eggsSounded good... but was refurbished, and not well i guess.

Pros: Features were okay but died.

Cons: Died after 2 hours listening. Just turned off. Smell of electric components burning from the general area. Was refurbished, but i guess poorly. I advise avoiding the refurbished units. Not worth the trouble of setting git all up just to take it down and sent it back. Hopefully I don't have to path shipping.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal on great unit

Pros: Low price ;) Has microphone driven speaker
balancing and eq. Six hdmi inputs.

Cons: Nothing really. I don't need a lot of special features. Maybe
more expensive units have useful ones.

Other Thoughts: This was a $600 receiver when it came out a couple of years ago.
I just need it for surround sound. I was using a 1980's stereo
receiver before this. For a buck 50, how can you go wrong.
