Onkyo delivers home theater the way it was meant to be with the TX-SR706. This advanced home theater receiver has both audio and video processors that work together to deliver an immersive experience. A variety of inputs, including satellite radio, make this the logical center of your entertainment universe.
The ability to deliver great sound to large rooms earned the receiver a THX Ultra2 certification. Audyssey MultEQ XT measures room acoustics and takes them into account when setting up crossovers, levels and delays so you get a well balanced sound. Dolby, DTS and Neural THX processors deliver sound the way the producers wanted.
HDMI pass through and video upconverting help to minimize cable clutter by minimizing the amount of cables used. Also, you don't need to switch inputs on your TV. Just plug all the video cables into the receiver and the Faroudja DCDi/EDGE processor will send it all to your TV through the HDMI cable after cleaning up the signal and removing the artifacts that can sometimes occur.

Great Receiver
- Pros: THX Select2 certification gives you the confidence the unit can take the punishment. HDMI full 1080P from any source. I love the HDMI hook up! One cable in from the cable box, one in from the DVD (PS3) and one out to the the HDTV. I was able to get rid of a small mountain of other cables. The sound is great and it has all the latest HD sound settings. This is my third receiver and by far the best.
- Cons: It does put out some heat but no issues with shutdownsor anything like that.
- Other Thoughts: This is the perfect addition for Blu-Ray, PS3 and HD cable or Sat.
Excellent Receiver
- Pros: Drives my Klipsch RF-35's towers, RC-35 center, RS-42's surround, and Polk R15 rears, very nicely. Lots of clean power as one would expect from any upper mid-range receiver.
4-HDMI inputs, and 2-Component Inputs for all the HD sources anyone would have (yes HD looks very good over component cables). Not to mention S-video and composite as well.
Completely up-to-date decodings for DVD and BD.
Very easy on-screen set-up, you can even assign each speaker's crossover individually.
A bit of futre proofing (if there is such a thing) with deep color capability.
THX certifed (does't mean a whole heck of a lot but it looks cool to have that logo on there).
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: Easy to set-up, easy to assign your inputs, sounds great.

This Is The Best Of The Best!
- Pros: Has all of the sound decoding choices that you can possibly need for a very long time to come. It has four HDMI inputs. Can be fully operated with or without the remote control...all buttons are on the front of the receiver. You don’t even need to turn on the TV to view the internal menu. It can be viewed through the display panel window on the front of the receiver. Just press receiver button and then set up button. This receiver delivers incredibly big, clean, beautiful full sound. Smart, easy, intuitive remote control. Beautifully, well thought out menu. Thoughtful back panel that makes putting in speaker wires way less painful. Un-selfish, non-proprietary inner-workings that allow you to play well with the other components that you are using. Has function to take max volume off internally (in menu) and thus gives you plenty of sound while you are still in the negative volume numbers. Let’s you start your receiver with a low volume of your choice so that you won’t blow your
- Cons: Absolutely, Positively None!
- Other Thoughts: I hope that you don’t mind me sharing the benefits of my experience with the receiver and I hope that it will be a great help to you.
This is my second Onkyo receiver. I had the TX-SR606 a little under a year but sold it so that I could get the extra ten watts that the 706 receiver affords. I have JBL speakers from a previous 5.1 system that are 100 watts so I always wanted This 100 watt receiver but couldn’t afford it at the time. My point is that the previous receiver, the 606, had the same abilities (Except THX and the extra 10 watts) but I couldn’t get the benefits of it until I had the PROPER blue ray player to compliment it. These receivers were tremendously built to supply you with the very latest that technology has to offer. I just purchased two back speakers (enery speakers sold at New Egg) and the new Play Station3 Slim SPECIFICALLY to compliment THIS receiver. I also have the original Play Station 3 but the new PS3 SLIM is the one that sells for 300.00 and has the n
Great Receiver
- Pros: Great Receiver, has all the connections you ever need. 4 HDMI inputs are nice. Has a lot of features and custom adjustments to your liking.
- Cons: HDMI input from my HTPC sometimes does not recognize and i have to unplug and plug it back in. Any suggestion?
Hmmm...i should have...but...but...
- Pros: None yet. First one DOA. NewEgg to replace.
- Cons: First one DOA. Should have waited for it to go down in price. An hour before I first ordered it (as I was deciding) it went up $30 and now it's again being offered at the $30 less price. The day my RMA was recieved in CA at NewEgg (today), they were offering this $80 less with promo code but they would not honor that discount for me.
- Other Thoughts: But, NE did honor the $30 less at original order time after calling, and another $25 on future purchases for the RMA hassle. Bottom line, you can get it for $500, or less if you watch , and wait, for it. Originally on the fence with this because of some of the bad experiences here. Hope the next one works, especially at this price. Don't plan this during vacation time.
