Onkyo delivers home theater the way it was meant to be with the TX-SR806. This advanced home theater receiver has both audio and video processors working together to deliver a totally immersive experience. A variety of inputs, including satellite radio, make this the logical center of your entertainment universe.

The ability to deliver great sound to large rooms earned the receiver a THX Ultra2 certification. Audyssey 2EQ and Dynamic EQ measure room acoustics and take them into account when setting up crossovers, levels and delays for a well balanced sound at all volume levels. Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD and THX EX Ultra 2 processors deliver sound the way the producers wanted.

HDMI pass through and video upconverting help to minimize cable clutter by minimizing the amount of cables used. Also, you don't need to switch inputs on your TV. Just plug all the video cables into the receiver and the Faroudja DCDi/EDGE processor will send it all to your TV through the HDMI cable after cleaning up the signal and removing the artifacts that can sometimes occur.

2 out of 5 eggsVIDEO PROBLEMS

Pros: great sound and speaker set up a breeze.

Cons: After 1 year of regular use and 2 years of sitting in storage (dry and average temperature) the video stopped working. Could not get dvd or xbox 360 to display on tv. when hdmi connected directly to the tv it works fine. Very disappointed! Several articles of this issue on the net.

4 out of 5 eggsThis Receiver Rocks!

Pros: Awesome sound and up-conversion video especially from other video input sources (S-Video & Component) to 1080P! I hear sounds in movies that I've owned for years that I've never hear until now!!! It's like watching them all for the first time! The amount of A/V capabilities this receiver has is the main reason for it's purchase! I have never had an Onkyo Die on me! Have 5 now all still work different models and years owned! Onkyo makes them right, starting with there own power supplies!

Cons: Yes there is a bit of latency time between source switching with HDMI however, it's a lot of information to have to channel. Some time there's a bit of a brain fart with it's switching, but is quickly resolved with changing sources again then back.

Other Thoughts: Tons of options and settings to tailor to your particular needs if your one like myself whom is very meticulous of both there video and especially sparing nothing for sound quality! Onkyo use to build with built in cooling fans however they don't any more! If not properly cooled and or ventilated, yes any receiver will fry! I have a muffin fan on top isolated with rubber feet blowing into the unit to keep it cool and it'll rock for hours on end at full bore!!! Draw back is about every 6mo's you have to blow the unit out with compressed air after removing the top shell. A small price to pay I think for so much awesomeness!!!!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For the money it is a great buy hands down offers enough inouts for evernthing.

Cons: The only downside is the HDMI audio output allows you to hook it up to your TV the audio pass through when it is enabled the receiver drops down the volume from the receiver output and increases the output to the TV. That is my only issue with it.

3 out of 5 eggsHDMI?

Pros: Awesome Sound Quality, great connections. Many features.

Cons: HDMI output was faulty. Had to drive it to service center 23 miles away. Pretty mad about that because HDMI out was the main reason for the purchase of this unit.

Other Thoughts: NewEgg always great delivery. Always great promo's with combo purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat receiver

Pros: I only use the audio on this receiver so I can't comment on the video quality. Set-up was easy, sound is fantastic, I can hear the dialogue in movies without cranking the volume. Music sounds great too.

Cons: none so far

1 out of 5 eggsGreat unless it breaks

Pros: Sounded good for 4 months.

Cons: I was very happy with this unit for 4 months. One day it quit working and called Onkyo. They directed me to their authorized servical center. The service center called me two days later and said they found out what was wrong and ordered the parts for it. 2 months later, no parts. The service center said Onkyo stated that it would be another 1-2 months. If you feel like rolling the dice, go ahead and buy it. If it needs work, you may be out of luck. I just hope they don't go out of business and leave me stranded.

Other Thoughts: Buy it if you feel like rolling the dice. Maybe you'll never need service. Maybe you will.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Receiver

Pros: Great receiver. Great sound. I like the calibration feature. It take about 3-5 seconds for the video to switch, not that long at all. The upconverting to 1080P is OK, but it helps to reduce wires running from devices to TV.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb Clean Sound

Pros: THX Ultra 2 Plus at this price is a steal!
Words cannot describe the sonic difference this receiver has made in the audio quality of my dvds and music. Very clean sound. My speakers have never sounded so good! I don't buy a piece of audio equiptment based on what video it can do, no more than I expect great sound from my TV or LCD Monitor. The people that do professional installs love using the digital coax and component video. HDMI as a technology itself has several flaws. Yes it is convenient to have your audio and video run through one cable. However there is a price to pay. "HDMI is a digital signal format, developed primarily as a platform for the implementation of HDCP (High Definition Content Protection) to prevent consumers from having complete access to the contents of high-definition digital recordings. As one might expect from a standard that was developed to serve the content provider industries, rather than the best interests of the consumer, HDMI is something of a mess.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: While I did not purchase this through New Egg, I have been a New Egg customer for years, and I have always had a great experience with them. At the current price listed with free shipping. You can't beat this THX Ultra 2 Plus at this price!!!

Use broadcast quality cables like Belden 7787A, Belden 1694A for Component Video Cables or Belden 1695A if you need to run a plenum installation. And a Belden 1694A for your Digital Coax. I guarantee it will be much better than HDMI. Not to mention, they are not that expensive! Look around.
