Onkyo delivers home theater the way it was meant to be with the TX-SR806. This advanced home theater receiver has both audio and video processors working together to deliver a totally immersive experience. A variety of inputs, including satellite radio, make this the logical center of your entertainment universe.
The ability to deliver great sound to large rooms earned the receiver a THX Ultra2 certification. Audyssey 2EQ and Dynamic EQ measure room acoustics and take them into account when setting up crossovers, levels and delays for a well balanced sound at all volume levels. Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD and THX EX Ultra 2 processors deliver sound the way the producers wanted.
HDMI pass through and video upconverting help to minimize cable clutter by minimizing the amount of cables used. Also, you don't need to switch inputs on your TV. Just plug all the video cables into the receiver and the Faroudja DCDi/EDGE processor will send it all to your TV through the HDMI cable after cleaning up the signal and removing the artifacts that can sometimes occur.

1080p doesn't work
- Pros: Decent sound, easy Audissey setup that detects speakers and their locations
- Cons: HDMI video switching is somewhat slow - it takes a while for picture to appear.
And the real deal breaker - The 1080p video is atrocious to say the least. When there is 1080p video coming through HDMI input there is massive noise in the dark areas of the picture in a form of blue dots. This makes watching stuff like Star Wars, Battlestar Gallactica and other outer space sci-fi unbearable. Don't assume that my HDMI cables blow - because they don't.
Onkyo has unofficially acknowledged the problem and first they promised to put me on notification list while they work on the solution. I downswithed my video sources to output 1080i which works fine and waited for a couple of weeks. Now it's been more than 2 weeks since I took the unit into authorized repair facility and I don't have a definitive answer yet. Meanwhile my nice speakers just collect dust... :( At the price you'd expect better than that. Unfortunately newegg has NO RETURN policy on this unit.

Great unless it breaks
- Pros: Sounded good for 4 months.
- Cons: I was very happy with this unit for 4 months. One day it quit working and called Onkyo. They directed me to their authorized servical center. The service center called me two days later and said they found out what was wrong and ordered the parts for it. 2 months later, no parts. The service center said Onkyo stated that it would be another 1-2 months. If you feel like rolling the dice, go ahead and buy it. If it needs work, you may be out of luck. I just hope they don't go out of business and leave me stranded.
- Other Thoughts: Buy it if you feel like rolling the dice. Maybe you'll never need service. Maybe you will.

Solid Unit
- Pros: Easy basic setup. MANY settings. Very powerful and solid unit thus far. I am not experiencing any artifact issues to date.

This Receiver Rocks!
- Pros: Awesome sound and up-conversion video especially from other video input sources (S-Video & Component) to 1080P! I hear sounds in movies that I've owned for years that I've never hear until now!!! It's like watching them all for the first time! The amount of A/V capabilities this receiver has is the main reason for it's purchase! I have never had an Onkyo Die on me! Have 5 now all still work different models and years owned! Onkyo makes them right, starting with there own power supplies!
- Cons: Yes there is a bit of latency time between source switching with HDMI however, it's a lot of information to have to channel. Some time there's a bit of a brain fart with it's switching, but is quickly resolved with changing sources again then back.
- Other Thoughts: Tons of options and settings to tailor to your particular needs if your one like myself whom is very meticulous of both there video and especially sparing nothing for sound quality! Onkyo use to build with built in cooling fans however they don't any more! If not properly cooled and or ventilated, yes any receiver will fry! I have a muffin fan on top isolated with rubber feet blowing into the unit to keep it cool and it'll rock for hours on end at full bore!!! Draw back is about every 6mo's you have to blow the unit out with compressed air after removing the top shell. A small price to pay I think for so much awesomeness!!!!
- Pros: For the money it is a great buy hands down offers enough inouts for evernthing.
- Cons: The only downside is the HDMI audio output allows you to hook it up to your TV the audio pass through when it is enabled the receiver drops down the volume from the receiver output and increases the output to the TV. That is my only issue with it.
