Onkyo delivers home theater the way it was meant to be with the TX-SR876. This advanced home theater receiver has both audio and video processors that work together to deliver an immersive experience. Independent power supplies keep the amplification and processing circuitry separate so that there is no crossover noise. A variety of inputs including, satellite radio, make this the logical center of your entertainment universe.

The ability to deliver great sound to large rooms earned the receiver a THX Ultra2 certification. The Advanced Speaker Array technology will digitally reconfigure the speakers and settings for movies, music or games, adjusting for the specific requirements of each. Audyssey MultEQ XT measures room acoustics and takes them into account when setting up crossovers, levels and delays so you get a well balanced sound. Then Audyssey's Dynamic EQ automatically adjusts setting when you change input sources.

The advanced features don't stop with audio. The TX-SR876 uses the HQV Reon-VX processor to automatically scale all signals to 1080p. This advanced processor eliminates jaggies, mosquitoes and other artifacts. With four HDMI 1.3a inputs you can attach all of your video and game equipment to the receiver and send just one HDMI cable up to your TV. Now you don't have to wait while your TV switches inputs.

1 out of 5 eggsOnkyo video?

Pros: Good Sound, Nice remote

Cons: Video is not very good and looses its hand shake between video imput and output. Have to play with settings to get it back. By pass video and all is fine, just paid for a video receiver, be nice if it worked like it should.

Other Thoughts: Value doesn't add up to the price paid. Look at other options in Home Video Receivers.

4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: As always wonderfull workmanship. Sound quality far exceeds expectations.

Cons: Heavy. Runs hot, needs good ventilation. Hard to program with Harmony remote.

Other Thoughts: Sometimes simple is best. The TX-SR876 needs a simple A/B speaker button.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Receiver

Pros: Very powerful with very low noise level. Video upscaling looks great on my Panasonic 50" plasma. Setting up the speakers is very easy with the Audessey mic.

Cons: Heavy and Hot (see comment below). Not easy to update firmware.

Other Thoughts: Tom Hanks machine gun blew me away in the warehouse scene in Road to Perdition. Outstanding sound at any volume. If your speakers are really efficient, you will hurt someone.

I had only a couple inches clearance above the unit and had to install a 200 mm fan on the top with a shroud to keep it cool in the shelf. Not terribly different in heat output than other high end receivers I have seen. Power makes heat.

I suggest a power conditioner to keep it (and all your attached electronics) safe from voltage spikes.

5 out of 5 eggsOnkyo 876 ROCKS

Pros: This system could not be any easier to setup from the start to finish I had this system up and running in less then 10 min.

The HDMI works great. Clean sharp picture. And the sound is ear candy.

Cons: I hope you are all smart enough to know that when reading feed backs on a product not to count the bad and good and see which is higher. Although sometimes it does work out that good feed backs are high it is rarely the norm.

The reason is the people that take the time to write reviews are usually under educated confused people that over bought and have a hard time following directions.

I am not trying to slam anyone here. I just hate seeing the same old reviews claiming is was to hard to set up, something did not work or otherwise foolish user error. To cover up the fact that they have no idea what they were talking about they will always add a few lines stating how they are in the industry and toss in a little information about calibrations that make them sound smart.

Other Thoughts: Just buy it you will love it.

5 out of 5 eggsJust Amazing

Pros: Easy to setup, just make sure it is hooked to your TV so you can follow the menus on the TV screen. Sound is beautiful and powerful, pretty much free of distortion at max volume.

Cons: It will warm up your room very quickly. It is like a portable heater, but you can't expect less with those specification. Bigger than your usual receiver.

Other Thoughts: I paid less of thousand bucks on offer. The closest competition cost over two thousand and doesn't have all the features that this model have.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing, Impressive

Pros: Video upscaling is pretty good, but it's hard to tell a dramatic difference. All video in to receiver is output to the two HDMI outs in my configuration, cuts down on wires that way.

Sound is amazing with my Klipsch KLF20 speakers in bi-amped configuration. If you have large enough speakers to take advantage of this kind of set up I highly recommend it. If you're just running 'consumer-level' bookshelf speakers you'll be wasting a lot of money.

Home theater is clear and crisp. No hiss is audible in the system when the sound is turned up and there's a quiet part of the movie.

Audyssey microphone detected my speakers within 6-inches of where they were actually placed. The receiver was able to do that and make the calculations needed for optimal sound delivery to the seating area.

Cons: Heavy receiver at over 50 pounds. Hot when running. All receivers get warm, but this baby can suck down 9.5 amps of juice and delivers a lot of that in the form of heat. Don't set anything directly on top of it. Make sure you have enough height to put this thing somewhere with ample air flow on top.

The remote is easy enough to use, but it's huge and I question some of the layout choices. At this price point it might have been nice to have an RF remote for some of the basic functions as well as the fully functional IR unit. It's nice that it all lights up, but isn't it time that Onkyo uses a teal backlight for the remote, to match the display on the receiver?

Receiver is not worth the retail price. I didn't get mine on Newegg but I've seen it as low as 899 on Newegg, so keep watching.

Other Thoughts: Interface menus were fine for me, they don't seem outdated, they're just not to the point that people are used to with the ease of computers and the internet (and iPods). Perhaps my firmware version updated the menu system?

Would be nice if the next series of receivers powered the HDMI switch when the unit was in standby mode so that the wife and kid(s) don't have to turn the receiver on to play a movie or game setting could read: "HDMI A/V Pass-Through When In Standby" ... it wouldn't have to up-scale the A/V signal(s) just pass them through.

Sound processing takes a few milliseconds on the unit. Not an issue unless you have a whole-home-audio system. And in that case you get an echo effect because sound takes a few milliseconds to get through this receiver.

4 out of 5 eggsRMA Troubles

Pros: Amazing audio. Fast switching of video and cleans up pictures nicely.

Cons: Okay, here is where I ran into troubles. I purchased and had a defective unit. I contacted newegg to RMA and they said that they did not take RMA's for the reciever. Newegg.com (at the time) said that I needed to contact the manufacturer. I contacted them and they said to go to newegg. So I called my credit card company in to settle things for me (yay visa) and I got an e-mail from newegg with my RMA # and a shipping label. I checked the site and it looks like newegg and onkyo fixed their policies and newegg now takes this item as an rma. Took me 3 weeks to get a working system.

Other Thoughts: I really enjoy the system now that it works!

Hopefully the RMA process if you get a lemon wont be nearly as bad as my experience (over 20 hrs on the phone with newegg support and onkyo and Visa)

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Awesome Awesome!

Pros: This is a follow up to my previous review. NewEgg RMA'd my 876. The replacement 876 works perfect! The HQV upscaling chip works like it is supposed to. Everything is upscaled to 1080p. The sound and video is incredible. I love my Onkyo TXSR876.

Cons: Michael Scofield died in the end, which is just wrong. Oh, you mean about the 876? There are no cons.

Other Thoughts: I bought this on sale from NewEgg for $899 with free shipping! It is the deal of the century!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Receiver!

Pros: This is a wonderful receiver, very powerful for the price. It also comes with many options including multiple zone set up, Audissy(SP) which calibarates the equalizer and receiver it self. Is able to bi-amp front speakers. Easy to set up... overall just a wonderful piece of hardware.

Cons: Heavy and huge, 60 lbs is no joke :)
