Onkyo delivers home theater the way it was meant to be with the TX-SR876. This advanced home theater receiver has both audio and video processors that work together to deliver an immersive experience. Independent power supplies keep the amplification and processing circuitry separate so that there is no crossover noise. A variety of inputs including, satellite radio, make this the logical center of your entertainment universe.
The ability to deliver great sound to large rooms earned the receiver a THX Ultra2 certification. The Advanced Speaker Array technology will digitally reconfigure the speakers and settings for movies, music or games, adjusting for the specific requirements of each. Audyssey MultEQ XT measures room acoustics and takes them into account when setting up crossovers, levels and delays so you get a well balanced sound. Then Audyssey's Dynamic EQ automatically adjusts setting when you change input sources.
The advanced features don't stop with audio. The TX-SR876 uses the HQV Reon-VX processor to automatically scale all signals to 1080p. This advanced processor eliminates jaggies, mosquitoes and other artifacts. With four HDMI 1.3a inputs you can attach all of your video and game equipment to the receiver and send just one HDMI cable up to your TV. Now you don't have to wait while your TV switches inputs.

Amazing
- Pros: Confessions of a reformed audiophile - Listening to this with Martin Logan Vantage speakers (electrostatic) and Magenpan surrounds - exceptional! Strong, tight bass, liquid and transparent mid-range and highs. Superb 1080i picture on Sony Bravia. Flexible 7.1 assignment of speakers. HD radio now a must - I had thought it would be not much improvement over standard FM - very wrong. Over all, sound and video quality a vast improvement . Excellent build quality.
- Cons: On screen setup not beautiful but works okay and gets the job done. You set it up and then don't see it again except for the occasional tweak. Heavy! A con? Power supply too big? Is that possible?
What a price! What a machine!
- Pros: Absolutely stunning everything on this machine. Impecible sound quality with THX 2 PLUS and the best 1080p upscaling available. A high-end receiver with a middle ranged pricetag!
- Cons: Horridly out-dated configuration screen, but that's it!
- Other Thoughts: If you've navigated to this page in search of a new receicver or simply by chance, you need to click on the "ADD TO CART" button immediately!

Outstanding
- Pros: As always wonderfull workmanship. Sound quality far exceeds expectations.
- Cons: Heavy. Runs hot, needs good ventilation. Hard to program with Harmony remote.
- Other Thoughts: Sometimes simple is best. The TX-SR876 needs a simple A/B speaker button.
SR876 HDMI problem
- Pros: Excellent Audio. .
Excellent customer service from NEW EGG. .
- Cons: BAD HDMI compatibility. .
Never resolver problem. . BAD customer customer service from Onkyo. . On hold for over 30 minuets to speak with Onkyo agent. .
- Other Thoughts: Panasonic Plasma TV before had no problems displaying 1080 from other sources, including my Onkyo Blu-Ray player. .
The SR876 would not output at 1080. . Onkyo customer service blamed the Panasonic TV. . Which is not true. .
I spent many hours trying to solve problem.
Great Receiver
- Pros: Very powerful with very low noise level. Video upscaling looks great on my Panasonic 50" plasma. Setting up the speakers is very easy with the Audessey mic.
- Cons: Heavy and Hot (see comment below). Not easy to update firmware.
- Other Thoughts: Tom Hanks machine gun blew me away in the warehouse scene in Road to Perdition. Outstanding sound at any volume. If your speakers are really efficient, you will hurt someone.
I had only a couple inches clearance above the unit and had to install a 200 mm fan on the top with a shroud to keep it cool in the shelf. Not terribly different in heat output than other high end receivers I have seen. Power makes heat.
I suggest a power conditioner to keep it (and all your attached electronics) safe from voltage spikes.
