Onkyo delivers home theater the way it was meant to be with the HT-S9100THX. This advanced home theater system has both audio and video processors that work together to deliver an immersive experience. This THX I/S Plus Certified system can handle full 1080p video processing and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.

Audyssey 2EQ and Dynamic EQ measure room acoustics and take them into account when setting up crossovers, levels and delays so you get a well balanced sound. They also work to keep sound balanced as you adjust the volume. Onkyo’s Wide Range Amp Technology has a broad frequency range with minimal noise so signal being amplified is pure and clean.

In order to be a truly integrated system Onkyo crafted the speakers to both work together and to compliment the receiver. The Front, Center and Surround speakers have 2x12cm cones and 1x2.5cm soft dome tweeter with a frequency response of 50Hz-45kHz. The 290W powered subwoofer has a 30cm cone and a frequency response from 20Hz to 100Hz. If you’re not careful you’ll think you’re watching the movie in the theater.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat more are you looking for?

Pros: Price, capabilities, 7.1, 290W - 12" subwoofer. Simply put you cannot put together this system, let alone a THX certified system, for the price of $799.

I have watched this system for 7 months and in January the price was $799 and in July it was $799 again. So, if you are willing to wait you can save $300 and at least $50 + shipping over anything else on the web (which comes out to be $100+ in savings).

The automatic setup is almost spot on and saves a good deal of time, not mention it is fun.

The speakers look nice and are big but in doing so they produce a better range of sound...if that matters to you.

The subwoofer, because it is 290 watts, needs only be turned up to the THX-1/3 or 1/2 if you wish to feel every possible thud. In designing the system this way, you don't have to worry about blowing the sub which is also a nice comfort.

Cons: The provided cables will not suffice for the wattage being pushed, buy 12-14 gauge wiring like everyone suggests for $60; it will help your receiver mechanically last longer as it is not working so hard.

Also, the output does start out a bit quiet but if you tweak this in the settings you'll find it is not a deal breaker.

The directions for setting the TV button's code is not exactly straight forward but still easily determinable.

I would have preferred the sub to be a downward throwing but you can't win everything.

Other Thoughts: It is not impossible but if you wanted to make your life a lot simpler I would suggest buying banana plugs.

Also, if you're like me and you have an oldschool PS3 (non-slim) you will need to tweak the output settings to get 7.1 and you will not get to see TrueHD or DTS-HD as the PS3 decodes it first and sends it off to the receiver.

Hands down this has turned out to be everything I wanted it to be and more. The sub sounds crisp, it's responsive, and looks good all things considered. The speakers are big but in all reality it makes the system look and sound like it is worth what you spent. The receiver could be flashier but with what it can do, the inputs/outputs, and price I can' I won't complain.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: This is a great home theater system. The overall sound is very good. I was surprised by the performance of the speakers. I am currently using only 5.1 but will hook up the two remaining speakers once I figure a way to hide them in my family room.

The subwoofer is quite large. Make sure you have a good place to put this item. It can look awkward just sitting next to the TV. The performance on the sub is quite good. It will shake your room even a big room. I adjusted the subwoofer bass to the suggested THX setting during setup but I increased it afterwards.

The front and center speakers are relatively large. They are not floor standing size but more like book shelf speakers. Do not expect Bose size speakers. I am impressed with the Onkyo speakers. They are heavy for their size which suggests that a good magnet was

Watching movies with this system is a new experience. It greatly enhances the experience.

Cons: I was less then impressed with the THX performance. I found the Dolby settings to be better. Perhaps is was the DVD or Blue Ray and not THX technology.

Other Thoughts: This is a great bang for the buck. I'm going to recommend this system to my sister who still needs a home theater system.

3 out of 5 eggsOk overall

Pros: Great sound. Lots of inputs, but not enough for me. Next model up with more inputs is pricy. This seems to be about the best bang for the buck if you can live with the remote and dock (see below) Great sound!

Cons: The iPod dock does not work with new iPod so obviously this unit is old technology and will probably be replaced with a new one soon. Remote is very poor. Old technology, hard to program, can't do a lot of things like listen to music and watch tv at same time (assuming you use HDMI)

Other Thoughts: Outputs are compatible with banana plugs from M***. Good wire a plus. The wire supplied with unit may be OK but it's not long enough for my room so I went with higher quality wire, again from M***.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth it!

Pros: Good price. Complete, easy to setup package. Remote is straight-forward and easy to use. Awesome sound.

Cons: Included speaker wire is thin and cruddy. Definitely get some 12 or 14 gauge wire. Receiver looks a little dated, but still nice.

Other Thoughts: First - the box is HUGE and heavy (137lbs). The box was beat up pretty badly and the front right speaker had a fist-sized hole in it - thanks UPS. Fortunately, Newegg's customer service is good and they had me a new unit in 3 days. Again, the box was beat up badly; but, everything was intact this time. I put this in a room that is app. 15x20ft. The Audyssey EQ room setup takes around 10 minutes to run through, but it nailed the speaker distances. I've got a Samsung LCD and Blu-Ray player, so I did some testing. I watched Black Hawk Down on Bluray and the sound was amazing. It was like I was in the battles. Next was bluray Avatar - also awesome. Star Trek bluray - sweet as well. Unfortunately, I don't think there are too many BluRay movies encoded for THX. But, the Running Man DVD special edition has THX encoding and it did sound darn good. I gotta say, I think the THX was worth the extra bucks.

5 out of 5 eggsSound Blows you away

Pros: Complete 7.1 system with great receiver, and speakers setup was easy speakers and amp both accept banana plugs great features dts master audio, video up conversion, ect....

Cons: Non to speak of system required a bit of tweaking after Audyssey setup. Don't use the supplied speaker wire or sub cable and you will be fine I used 12 gage quality wire and it sounds great.

Other Thoughts: This system is an excellent value once tuned properly the sound is unbelievable, a audiophile friend of mine came over to help me tweak the system all we did was use a simple db meter and equilized all the speaker levels from the listening area (my couch). Even he was impressed with the quality of the system and the price I paid, and he runs a much more expensive system. He brought over a Live Jeff Beck blu-ray and it rocked the system.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat System!

Pros: Great sounding system. Sound is so clear and crisp that many times I am fooled into thinking that sounds come from within the house. So far, I've used the included thin wire. It sounds fine. It IS a part of the THX system certification, isn't it?

Cons: The biggish front speakers should come with stands.

Other Thoughts: There was a hum from the sub-woofer. This was exasperated when I turned a space heater on. It also confirmed that there was a ground loop problem. I plugged all of my components into a power strip and plugged the strip into an Ebtech Hum-X ground loop filter. It worked perfectly. No more hum.

Also, the color and grain of the wood matched perfectly with Ikea's black-brown Benno DVD tower. Cut it in half, add a base and you have 2 matching speaker stands with more functionality and better looks (IMHO).

5 out of 5 eggsUPDATE

Pros: This is an update to a posting I made a while back that mentioned I had a humming noise that seemed like a ground loop problem. It all turned out to be the cable company providing a cheap HDMI cable... Once I removed it, everything sounds perfect!

Cons: Thin speaker wire.

Other Thoughts: I still wasn't happy with Onkyo's reply saying that I had to take everything in if there was a potential problem. I'm glad I was able to figure it out.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat reliabale product

Pros: This system is easy to set up and more than powerful enough. Playing games on it is what I use it for mostly. Really give me an edge because now now only do I hear them I know they are trying to sneak up from behind me!!!

Cons: The blue light on the sub is a little bright when using it at night, but can easily be covered up.

Other Thoughts: I almost never turn it up past -20, in my middle sized living room.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat quality Set for the price

Pros: Hate to call it HTB, because its more than HTB. I had done setup automatically, and some manual adjustments and there it is, wonderful system.

Cons: Every one knows about the speaker wires that comes with it and probably its deliberate. Go buy 12 gauge wire and about 16 banana plugs from a good website and you will be all set.

Other Thoughts: I have a 18' by 15' by 24' listening space and I cannot bring up the volume to -20 and can sense the vibration in the windows and floor.
