Onkyo delivers home theater the way it was meant to be with the HT-S9100THX. This advanced home theater system has both audio and video processors that work together to deliver an immersive experience. This THX I/S Plus Certified system can handle full 1080p video processing and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.
Audyssey 2EQ and Dynamic EQ measure room acoustics and take them into account when setting up crossovers, levels and delays so you get a well balanced sound. They also work to keep sound balanced as you adjust the volume. Onkyo’s Wide Range Amp Technology has a broad frequency range with minimal noise so signal being amplified is pure and clean.
In order to be a truly integrated system Onkyo crafted the speakers to both work together and to compliment the receiver. The Front, Center and Surround speakers have 2x12cm cones and 1x2.5cm soft dome tweeter with a frequency response of 50Hz-45kHz. The 290W powered subwoofer has a 30cm cone and a frequency response from 20Hz to 100Hz. If you’re not careful you’ll think you’re watching the movie in the theater.

Pros: Easy setup. Sounds great with HDMI and Blu-Ray (via PS3). Simple adjustments with simple menus. Does sound better than the 7100 system. Watched CARS, remastered STAR WARS EPISODE II, TRANSFORMERS, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN and they were all awesome. Much better than my previous Onkyo 5.1 from 2001. House of Flying Daggers on Blu-Ray and PLANET EARTH/BBC was amazing.
Cons: While the speaker wire is color-coded to help with installation, it is cheap and the system is hurt significantly. Subwoofer setup can be problematic due to the low frequency during auto setup...be sure to maximize the output when you set it up.
Other Thoughts: Upgrade speaker wire to 12 AWG or 14 AWG speaker wire and everything will come alive.
Both the speakers and the receiver are compatible with Banana Plugs.
Onkyo AS240 speakers stand can work but are not made for the speakers. The speakers are very big, so be prepared.
Newegg promotion saved me tons. It was at my home within 48 hours of ordering.

Good sound, no volume

Pros: System has a lot of features, the auto setup is kewl, sound is pretty good for a package system
Cons: For 1200 watts (sub being 290watts) would expect the earth to shack if I crank it and the volume to be able to blast me away. It is marginally loud and that is about it. May have to look for a better receiver. I bought it for $100 dollars more before the instant rebate.
Other Thoughts: I will have to play with the unit and maybe try the to manually adjust it. Will try contacting Onkyo.

Cons: Its big and bulky? But even that the speakers themselves still look very nice just big which isnt a problem for me or the wife
Other Thoughts: Amazing Sound. I just installed it and its blown me away. Its like playing brand new games, CD's , etc. That youve already played/heard before.

Very good cinima sound

Pros: Easy to set up, sound is very good out of the box. Have not run the optimization program yet, even without any adjustment there is a nice sound stage and spacial effect. Sound may be a little harsh or bright for someone accustomed to a high end audio system but I have made any adjustments yet so too soon to judge. Despite what other reviews have said I find the volume to be more than adequate. Watched first movie with volume at 0 dB and this was more than adequate. A good number if HDMI inputs and price <$1000.
Cons: No Ipod dock, thought there was. Forget the included speaker wire, it's garbage. I used 12 gage, 14 or even 16 would be a big step up from the wire included. Speakers work OK but appearance is cheesy. Yes the enclosures are wood, but not really attractive. There is not enough recess or angle on the terminals to use plugs, but they are angled in such a way as to make it a pain to get the wires through. One of the terminals on center speaker started to spin when trying to tighten it up. Fortunately the internal connection appears to be OK but....
Other Thoughts: Onkyo must use funny math to rate receivers, the unit weighs maybe 25Lb and rated at 1250 watts, that's just nonsense. My music amp is rated 1400 watts and weighs in at over 100Lb. You can not cheat basic physics when it comes to amplifiers. Based on that if you have a very large space or need bone crushing volume you will not have dynamic range driving 7 channels. My room is about 19' by 25' inside the speaker envelop and it is more than adequate for that amount of space.

Cons: Sound seems to be a little low Lacks coax input for connecting rabbit ear antenna
Other Thoughts: Tested it out with Planet Earth Bluray from UK (to get 1080p, the US version is only 1080i). The experience was amazing.
