Pros: This is an excellent product for the price it can't beat. I use it. For music only. It replaced a much more expensive receiver that got damaged during a move.it sounds better on the same set of speakers.

Cons: You will spend more buying Onkyo products because this one will make you a believer.

4 out of 5 eggsIt does what I want it to do.

Pros: It does everything I want it to do. I haven't purchased a receiver since the 1990s. I have not researched new developments--however, this receiver behaves as I want it to, and it sounds good. The price was good--I think I paid 169.99.

Cons: My old CD player is a techniques player (5 discs). It has its own remote which does not work with the receiver. The universal remote will not allow selections to change cds or do other functions--so I do this by hand. Maybe it would be different if I knew how to make the universal remote work with the receiver--my skills are limited in this area.

Other Thoughts: The receiver is what I expected so I have no complaints.

5 out of 5 eggsSounds Good

Pros: - Sound is very clean and clear
- Output to monitors A, B, and A&B
- Display dimmer
- Good ventilation
- Simple stereo receiver/amplifier
- Great price (bought on sale for $169)

Cons: - Bass, Treble, and Balance knobs feels a bit weak and could easily be damaged if bumped. They feel fine for normal use and turn smoothly. No egg rating penalty.

Other Thoughts: Im using this in a small home entertainment setup and am very pleased with the quality and features. Audio source is a pc with an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 -> Onkyo -> Behringer B2031P monitors.

The FM tuner isn't of much interest so I can't comment on that.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice for the price

Pros: This receiver is just being used with a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 30's to improve the TV sound and listen to the local radio stations. As basic as you can get. The retro bass, treble, and balance knobs are a delight to use.
Sounds fantastic and has plenty of extra RCA inputs.

Cons: None so far. It works.

Other Thoughts: I am not going to critique the packaging and shipping. Sorry about that. I will never understand why so many reviewers do this. I do not care where you live and how many days and hours your item took to arrive.

Anyhow, I feel like I got more than I paid for with this old school stereo receiver. I would recommend it to a friend.

2 out of 5 eggsFew connectors

Pros: Cheap

Cons: There is no subwoofer connector, and no digital CD input.

Other Thoughts: The Yamaha RX-V367 can be had for a similar price, with way more connectors and features.

2 out of 5 eggsDied in days

Pros: Great range. Powered 2 175 watt speakers very, very nicely. Loved the clarity. Decent controls and connections.

Cons: Permanently went into "Voltage Protection mode" after a few days. Had to RMA so I'm out shipping charges and time of ownership. Disappointing since I picked this model specifically for its reliability. Oh well, guess it was my turn to be unlucky.

5 out of 5 eggsTook a While to Break in

Pros: Excellent Sound Quality!! 50 Watts per Channel sounds more like 100 Watts per channel. Very solid unit. Probably the best 2-channel stereo you will find, with a frequency response all the way down to 10hz and extremely high 100,000hz, which is an unbelievable response.

Cons: No Sub-out but the Polk-Audio PSW505 has high level speaker inputs and that works great for having a powered sub hooked up to it.

Other Thoughts: It took quite a while to break it in, it sounded kind of flat on the low ends until it was fully broke in and now it sounds great, almost like a surround sound now. It took about a 100 hours of use to start sounding like it should, so if yours sounds flat at first, give it some time and it will sound better as it ages.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb 2-ch

Pros: Excellent fm tuner section; drives my smallish bookshelf speakers with clean, spacious sound; plenty of inputs with good, simple switching controls

Cons: ~

Other Thoughts: For the study, I was looking to replace a 30-year-old Onkyo I was sad to see die. I wanted a solid, economical stereo-- nothing fancy but with very clean sound. The old Onkyo had done me right, so I was glad to see they still made a basic 2-ch model. I have two wired inputs, the computer and a cable teevee box. The unit works great switching between these. Plus I listen to a couple of fringe low-power fm stations that this unit seems to pull in pretty well -- w/o blanketing interference from a strong nearby gross country station that seems to infect my other radios. Overall then, I am very pleased with this purchase.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Its all good except that the remote could have more functions. Great sound but I expected that from onkyo,
good tuner as well and I live in a poor signal area. Definate Plus all the way

Cons: Just the remote........short on functions, and no HDMI, but for low end cost WOW!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Basic Stereo Receiver

Pros: The sound from this receiver is crisp; I agree with the other reviewer who stated you can hear details never heard before. I was amazed with the clarity of the sound from my CDs. The bass is forceful but not overpowering; I guess this could be considered subjective given the type of speakers connected. My Sony MDR-V6 stereo headphones sound great when connected to the receiver. I love the volume control on the remote as well as the ability to select different playback modes (i.e. CD, Tape, AM/FM, Phono). FM antenna reception is great provided you follow the recommendations in the manual. I purchased this receiver to accomodate my 6 ohm speakers, this particular receiver can accomodate 4-16 ohm speakers (other brands don't even offer this feature at this price). I've also connected an Ion USB turntable with a built-in preamp, the sound is great however I receive hum feedback when the volume is excessively high. Peak distorted CDs playback without distortion.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This receiver doesn't have a subwoofer output, I didn't list it in the cons section because I was aware of it before I made my purchase. I am not sure if a subwoofer out would be required if you have a decent pair of speakers. I wanted a basic stand alone component stereo system at an affordable price and this receiver satisfied my requirement. Over 20 years ago an army buddy recommended Onkyo and I kept that in mind when searching for recievers and I must say I was not disappointed in my selection. With Newegg I saved $70 from the regularly listed price plus free shipping; can't beat that deal!
