4 out of 5 eggsLasts at least 4 years

Pros: It works well with speakers and bass. Easy to setup. Loud. Lots of input HDMI connections.

Cons: The front display went out in 4 years and it can't display anything, even the volume level.
Only one output HDMI connection.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable and Splendid!

Pros: I've been using this unit since december 2009, so it's been at least 3 years. I have no single problems with this receiver. The HDMI connections work great with this unit, and I have used around 4 of them plugging the DVD player, XBox, TV, computer. The auxiliary input works well also, just use a high quality cable.

Cons: It gets hot but that's what I would expect.

5 out of 5 eggsVery happy with this purchase

Pros: First, it sounds fantastic on some mid level Yamaha's. Functionally I love the Audessy setup mic for calibrating speaker levels. It can handle all of the high end audio signals raw like Dolby True HD and dts which means surround sound is played as it was meant to be. I also love that you can software change any of the physical inputs like HDMI 1, 2 or 3 or component 1 or 2 to any of the source buttons like CBL/SAT or DVD/BD.

Cons: None that I have come across.

Other Thoughts: I have had it for a few years. My setup is only 5.1 surround, but the one time I setup Zone 2 I believe it said you couldn't have a 7 speaker setup in Zone 1, but don't quote me on that. There isn't any networking, but my components handle that.

1 out of 5 eggsUnit won't power on after 2.5 years

Pros: Decent price. Lots of HDMI connections. Decent A/V quality.

Cons: My unit gave out on me this week. The unit will not power on, instead just cycle through a clicking noise over and over again. I called Onkyo support and it has to serviced to be resolved. I am unable to remove it from safe mode. Disappointed given the price that the unit has to be serviced in just over 2 years. I've decided to change brands and receivers. I will not purchase Onkyo products again.

Other Thoughts: Really disappointed given the price that the unit only held up 2 and a half years.

5 out of 5 eggsRocks

Pros: Great sound and great picture. I am thrilled.

Cons: Gets a little warm - make sure you keep enough space around it.

Other Thoughts: Very good product. Drives my 62" Toshiba, five Polk speakers and my old Sony beast sub-woofer for a great experience, rattles the windows when I crank it up. Excellent fidelity with lossless digital classical music - you'd think Luciano was standing in front of you... Very happy with it after almost a year...

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy setup, good sound. Brought two one for the main part of the house the other for my Computer.

The HDMI POP's {overheats} I had too unplug & let the device cool down, then plug it back in. No problems so far other than the HDMI, So in short if you are going to use it for every day use don't plug your HI END video card into the receiver.

Other Thoughts: You can never go wrong with a nice 5.1 set up

4 out of 5 eggsOops Again

Pros: Great price, tons of options, 7.2 channel (dual powered sub capable), Audyssey EQ.

Cons: Unit does get quite hot you have to give it plenty of room to breathe, no 1080p upconversion which isn't huge but still notable for anybody who needs something to upconvert for their older devices. The Audyssey EQ tunes everything very low and does not adjust the frequency cutoffs. Unit arrived with the Front High L+R channels dead and non-functioning. Onkyo Tech support.

Other Thoughts: I originally purchased the Sony STR-DN1000 which was completely defective upon arrival. I sent that back for a refund and purchased this Onkyo. Everything worked flawless until I tried to hook up an extra set of speakers to the Front High channels and noticed no sound. Onkyo tech support seemed like they were working out of a dumpster, the email response was less than effective. I send them a fully detailed step by step email detailing the issue, they respond "Use these steps to reset your unit" ummmm sorry guys resetting the unit is not the issue. I called their tech support in response and their next brilliant troubleshooting step was "Plug a working speaker into the channel" Ummm all of my speakers work I told you this in the start so I know the issue is not a dead speaker. Their final response was "The unit will need to be serviced" But it took 30 mins for him to tell me this when he had all the information laid out for him. Thankfully I was still in the 30 day return time.

2 out of 5 eggsGood Sound - Terrible HDMI

Pros: Good Sound, Lot's of imputs

Cons: The HDMI never works from the TV to the Satellite receiver the first time, sometimes I have to turn the TV on and off several times in order for it to pick up the sound and terrible support from ONKYO. I would not buy this receiver again.

Other Thoughts: Stay away from this unit.
