1 out of 5 eggsNo sound after 2 yrs...like many others

Pros: When it worked, it worked well and I was pleased.

Cons: What can you say about a piece of equipment that was made to deliver sound but doesn't? A simple search on the net showed this is a frequent issue.

Other Thoughts: My first experience with owning an Onkyo. Unpleasant.

1 out of 5 eggsUnfortunately didn't last

Pros: Great receiver when it worked

Cons: The receiver went dead after about 25 months of use. Warranty is 2 years (expired a month ago). Upon searching online, I found dozens of posts about the same problem. It appeared that the board generate too much heat that over time damages some of the capacitors. This is my last ever Onkyo product.

3 out of 5 eggsSame issue

Pros: Sounds great when it works, like the passthrough feature

Cons: After having it repaired, I still have the same issue. The repair shop changed the HDMI board but didnt upgrade the firmware. Onkyo says their is not a firmware upgrade for this unit, but was unable to tell me what version is the latest. With RIHD power control is on and i cycle pover to the receiver, i have NO SOUND. if i turn off RIHD power control, then everything work fine. But with it off, passthrough is turned off.

Other Thoughts: In the setup menu under hardware setup-HDMI-RIHD, You have to turn on RIHD and have (RIHD) Power Control on for pass through to TV to work. when i turn of the reveiver, the video and sound is played by the TV. when i turn the receiver on again, i have NO SOUND until i unplug or reset the receiver. Or if i turn off RIHD and cycle power.

1 out of 5 eggsFails exactly when the warranty is over.

Pros: When it works it sounded great, produced a wonderful picture.

Cons: Dies after around a year, and is a known issue with quite a few onkyo products.

Other Thoughts: Google onkyo and no sound, buying any onkyo product is like renting something for a year for the same amount it takes to buy something else.

3 out of 5 eggsSound / No Sound

Pros: Awesome features. Pass through (HDMI source pass through to TV when in stby ex. cable/sat source selected turn off receiver(stby) video passes to TV and sound is then played through TV speakers) works with any HDMI source.
Onkyo agreed to fix know issue at no charge even when out of warranty.

Cons: HDMI handshake issues(audio cuts out for a second then returns - rare but annoying) will change listening mode on its own.
no sound (HDMI video but without sound) after 2.75 years.
Would have bought the 907 had i know this model had issues.

Other Thoughts: Hdmi sound returns if you unplug it momentarily or reset the receiver( press and hold TV/VCR button and press the on/off button - THIS WILL CLEAR ALL SETTINGS). Bought it in Nov 09 and by Sept 12 had to unplug almost daily to restore HDMI sound.
When watching TV, set listening mode to all channel stereo to avoid most(not all) audio dropouts caused by HDMI handshake issues.
Although 10 months out of warranty, Onkyo agreed to pay for the repair to fix this known issue with the HDMI no sound. ( lets hope the repair fixed all the issues). firmware 1.14 i believe the latest is 1.27 but cant find any info on what was changed/fixed.
had to enable RIHD to get pass through to work(after clearing my settings) i dont remember having to do that the first time.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat till it lasted

Pros: Great sound, 7.2 channels, pre-amp outputs.

Cons: As many other complaining, this unit dies just around 2 years of use. No Sound from speakers and no "switch clicking". Contacted for repair in another state and after 2 month I got it fixed, however it did no last long. In about 3 month the receiver showed the very same "No sound" simptoms, very randomly at first, but more and more later. Stil can turn the sound after 3 to 5 "power on" attempts. I think it will die again very soon.
Was a huge fan of Onkyo products for 15 years, guess no more.

Other Thoughts: I understand there is a "bad" economy, but Onkyo should pay attention what is going on around. There are so many upset customers having same issue and nothing is done. Car-makers at least issuing a recall.
Onkyo - do you want to keep you fans or not?

2 out of 5 eggsOnkyo TX-SR707 Fail

Pros: Dual Zone, Phono Input (record player), high power, blah blah

Cons: Like so many others, I have ZERO sounds from any input out to my speakers after 21 months of moderate use. For a while, I could get some sound output by doing a reset (DVR + Standby) but then I'd need to re-configure everything until i turned the unit off, no sound. I am posting this here at Newegg because I bought it here, and a google search brought me here first after I googled "onkyo TX-SR707 No Sounds" and I wanted others to see this also. I will be calling onkyo tomorrow ASAP, as this problem is rampant on the AVS forums. Please lets not let Onkyo slip by this. They need to fix ths.

Other Thoughts: Keep Onkyo Honest
