5 out of 5 eggsThe little engine that could

Pros: Pre-outs, Rated at 135w per 2ch, Audyssey, multiple listening modes, Ethernet port, plenty of analogue and HDMI connectivity, 7.2 availability, even more features

Cons: HDMI board failures

Other Thoughts: It may be a moot point by now for this model however, I have enjoyed my Onkyo 807 for around 5 yrs now! After 3 yrs, the HDMI board went south. Onkyo gave me an out of warranty fix, I was out of pocket only the cost of shipping one way. It's been a champ ever since. I run three amplifiers from this unit to power 5 speakers, the 807 powers the surrounds. I use my 807 daily whether it's blu rays, CD's or internet radio. For music, the 807 offers "Pure Audio" LOVE IT!!

Yes, it's true that Onkyo has had it's more than fair share of HDMI board failures, but when handled properly, Onkyo has taken care of their customers, I know of others beside myself, so my claim is accurate!!

And now, after 5 years of ownership, I'm ready to expand my theater to an 11.2, enter the Onkyo TX-NR3010, with my 807 still running strong, will retire it's H.T. duties to a 3.0 bedroom set up :) I have no interest in the new Dolby Atmos, but instead prefer the capabilities of Audyssey MultEQ XT32 offered with the 3010.

Hopefully, those with unfortunate HDMI failures will see this and ask Onkyo for a "one time out of warranty fix". This has been a great receiver, no need to let it go to waste over a very fixable scenario.

1 out of 5 eggsonkyo lost me

Pros: worked for 2 years.

Cons: HDMI board went bad. This was a gift from my now deceased family member who bought it from newegg. from all my reading it needs z new board but even that will fail again. I'll save my 80 bucks in shipping and 500.00 in parts and labor and attempt to fix myself. in the mean time I'll be shopping for a new favorite brand of receiver.

Other Thoughts: maybe if my receiver lasts 10 Years it will be worth 100 per year.

1 out of 5 eggsunhappy

Pros: Great picture and great sound when it is working.

Cons: Lasted one year before problems showed up. I sent it back for warranty and 3 months later it reverted back to no sound again. I am shipping it back for the second time. This thing has caused me 6 months of pain and it is still ongoing.

Other Thoughts: Calling them is a 45 minute wait over the phone and apparently they do not know that much. It cost me $60 to ship it half way across America and at least this second time they are flipping the bill. I asked for a replacement and they told me only after the second warranty. It has been a lemon all along. I told the warranty people to replace the board and all they did was give me a patch that did not last. I can not recommed this product or their warranty repair center.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Receiver. Audio no longer works. Onkyo is horrible.

Pros: Worked for about 1 1/2 years.

Cons: Already broken... after 1 1/2 years of use. So sad... I spent $900 on this receiver and now I probably can't get it repaired because it's out of warranty by only a few months. I noticed the audio going bad a few days ago. It would come on and then on the next start up, it would not work. To fix this I'd have to manually pull the plug on the back and if I was lucky it would come back. We tried having a family movie day yesterday 4th of July and it decided not to work. I feel completely ripped off! I have taken great care of this receiver and actually still have some of the original packaging on this product. Like brand new. Very dissapointed that NewEgg would allow the sale of such products. :( $900 down the drain.

5 out of 5 eggsReview update

Pros: Very powerful unit, multiple listening modes, firmware upgradable via Internet, easy to use, feature rich, lots of adjustability, detailed owners manual, plenty of connectivity options.

Cons: At this price range, no need to cry over spilled milk, you're getting more than you bargained for.

Other Thoughts: I love this system. It's my first home theater project and a follow up review after owning it for just over 6 months now. LG390 bluray is the source and LG50PS30 is the final. I have everything connected with HDMI. With 2 subs and 7 speakers hooked up, I have theater quality at the push of a button. You can actually hook up 11 speakers at once and run them through Audyssey but you can only assign 7 at a time, in addition to your 5 (center, L and R and surrounds) you can add; wides or highs or rears. I've added wides and mounted them high. I've mounted the surrounds in the rear. This actually works really great, in the movie "The Soloist", there's an aerial scene with pigeons flying upward, at the end of the scene, it was just as a pigeon was flying right past the right side of my head, pretty awesome. That's only one of 100,000 examples I could give. Master Audio, 7.2 system, the 807 is way cool. I love this unit as much as the day it arrived at my home.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Buy

Pros: The Audyssey setup was very straight forward and made things so much easier. The onscreen setup was something new for me, but now I could never go back to my old Sony STR-V333ES. It really doesn’t get that hot at all. Does a great decoding job of everything I throw at it.

Cons: I give it four stars only because I also felt a little cheated by Onkyo not including an HD radio tuner and I really should have got an iPod dock. Lastly, the remote needs backlit buttons and is personally now my biggest annoyance. There's nothing that annoys me faster than the phone ringing during a movie and I can't even find a pause butting without getting up and turning a light on. Maybe it's just me?

Other Thoughts: I have this receiver in a theater room setup that is very dark during use. I have to turn a light on or try to read the darn remote by projector glow since the buttons have no backlight. The source buttons have backlight once you press them to confirm your selection, but you have no way of telling what your pressing till you do. The remotes worthless on the dark for anything other than volume up and down unless you’re one of those people who can memorize buttons easily. I'm not that person and need backlights. When taking everything into consideration....price, features, sound quality;..... I'm happy I bought it.

5 out of 5 eggsHighly Recommended!

Pros: great sound
unmatched features
internet radio
easy firmware update
great looks

Cons: Bugs (now fixed)

Other Thoughts: I had read about the "no sound" issue but I ordered one anyway. I received the 807 and proceded to connect and run through the setup. First thing I did was update the firmware which Onkyo makes easy with my wired network connection. It immediately found my Win 7 PCs and was able to stream my MP3 library. Pandora worked well too.

Went away for the weekend and when I returned I had no sound and no network connection. I unplugged the unit and plugged it back in and the sound and network were back. To be safe I reset the receiver to factory defaults and ran throung the setup again. Everything seems to work well again.
Went on vacation for two weeks. When I returned, no sound and no network. Immediately decided to ask Newegg for an exchange it had been one month and one day since Newegg shipped it and they wouldn't allow an exchange. Bummer! I went online looking for a solution and found that Onkyo had just released a firmware upgrade to fix the problem. Now I am pleased!!

3 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Purchased this unit last week. The sound is outstanding. The menu is easy to use and movies and music sound amazing. The clarity and power will blow you away. It is a heavy unit but this is a good thing. There are lots of features and goodies on this receiver but don't be is very easy to use, navigate and tweak this unit.

Cons: now to the reason for 3 eggs out of 5. I have to return the unit for a replacement because there is no sound when using the NET feature. The unit was defective. Newegg covered the shipping and I sent it back and currently waiting on a new unit.

Other Thoughts: Setup - Paradigm monitor 7's version 5 with paradigm cc290 center channel with custom dayton titanic subwoofer.

5 out of 5 eggsOnkyo TX-NR807

Pros: I have been an audiophile for 60 years and in to home theater for 25 years. I have 5 receivers plus separates. This Onkyo brings new life and spirit to movies. I never heard so much power and life in a movie until now. This is a receiver you must have if you love all kinds of movies.

Cons: The first one I got from Newegg, crashed. Onkyo said to send it back to Newegg. It was replaced ASAP. Less than a week.
Both receivers have audyssey problems. I gave up using it.
You don't need it anyway. It sounds magnificent without it.

Other Thoughts: Leave the equalizer on and zero out everything else. Keep the THX settings. You can make more adjustments if you want to. Put on a DVD and fasten your seat belt. You will have a ride you won't believe.

5 out of 5 eggsJUST a midrange receiver?

Pros: Very powerful. Biscuit tin?, I think it's very solid. 11.2 surround sound?, FANTASTIC!! Unit dimmer switch. 135watts per channel. Audyssey MultEQ takes all the work out of setting up the sound.

Cons: Unable to reverse the direction of the listening mode menu.

Other Thoughts: I spent a review defending the negs. Let me tell you what's cool about the 807: What I have is; Input source, LGBD390 via HDMI. Final source, LG50PS30 via HDMI. The speakers are Onkyo SKS-HT870 7.1 130w with the Energy ESW-8SG sub, 200w. That's 490watts of total sub-woofer! The Audyssey multEQ does such a great job of speaker calibration, you'd never know I have enough power to knock the pictures off the wall. In addition to selecting from a plethora of listening modes, you can then go and fine tune the system from there IE; more bass, treble, center, sub-woofer + three selections of Dynamic Volume. For a "MID" range A/VR, this baby can crank out the volume and the adjustability is icing. My unit is mounted on a free shelf in the corner with my blu-ray mounted 3" above. The heat of the unit comes from the rear and though not enough to worry, I've lined the underside of the blu-ray shelf with foil. 14avg seems to work just fine. Not only do I highly recommend the 807, I'd buy it again.
