5 out of 5 eggsNothing better for the price

Pros: I bought this receiver to sit next to my desktop which is also my bedroom's entertainment center. I have it setup computer-receiver-tv. I don't have cable or any dvd players or anything like that. Everything comes off my computer. I have it setup with a 5.1 with dayton audio 5.1 cheapo setup and a 12" powered Cerwin Vega Sub (with a replacement 400watt plate amp). It sounds amazing, it has every feature I could ask for! Stays warmer than my computer (water cooled).

Cons: None,

1 out of 5 eggs2 failures

Pros: Great features for the price. When it works, it works great.

Cons: Long term reliability. I have two of these and when they worked, they worked great. The HDMI output failed on both. The first quit at about 6 months. The second at about 9 months. They weren't abused. They were always well ventilated. One day they worked. The next day they didn't. Based on this experience (2 for 2 failure rate) I absolutely would not recommend this device.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: This thing destroys my 506 in audio quality/heat/features

Cons: Took forever to get to me...ups dang you!

Other Thoughts: Had an onkyo 506 that i wanted to upgrade and got a Samsung from BB. It was a hard fail, with over rated specs and poor features, ordered this and returned the samsung when it arrived.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: I've been very happy with this receiver. It has a very good feature set and the price is terrific. I read some reviews online where it was stated that the sound quality was not as good as the competition, but I have to say that I've been very pleasantly surprised with how great it sounds. Setup was very easy. It is noticeably an improvement over my old HK dolby surround receiver--which I thought was quite good. HDMI switching is a big improvement--didn't have that on the old receiver. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this unit.

Cons: None.

4 out of 5 eggsVery pleased but...

Pros: Let me start out saying that I am very pleased with this purchase. It puts out more than enough power to the Polk Monitor 70s I purchased with it, and should be more than capable of handling (eventually) a completed 5.1 setup. All of the HDMI inputs work; an added bonus is my laptop doesn't flicker (for about 1 minute when I direct connect to my LG) when outputting to the tv via the receiver. I haven't gone throught all of the options yet (still need to bi-amp my speakers), but it does everythign I want it to.

Cons: Really only two cons so far. One is that it doesn't want to recognize by BD550 LG BD player as well as my Scientific Atlanta cable box on the remote (I didn't mess with it too long after the initial attempts failed, maybe I'll still get it working). The other is that Tiger Direct JUST put this baby on sale for $70 less (5 dollars shipping for a net of 65 bux). At 329 though, I feel that this was STILL a great price for this receiver.

Other Thoughts: If you just bought this through the Egg as I did, call Customer Service and see what they can do. I inquired about a price match and even though they couldnt' match it they did give me a $25 credit. In all I'm out about $40...I suggest you all do the same ($25 for a 5 minute phone call). The price and the remote (which is probably rectifiable) are the only things keeping this from 5 stars.

+ 1 for Newegg product support (lady was very helpful and NOT Indian or Mexican). Who knew you could actually get competant homegrown customer service these days. Time Warner on the other hand....

5 out of 5 eggsGreat! This is definitely worth it.

Pros: Got this nearly free in a combo deal with Klipsch 500 home theater set. They pair very nicely. Haven't heard such good sound my entire life... For those having trouble with HDMI pass thru, you need a compatible cable. Not all HDMI cables are created equal- check for 1.4a/b versions of the cable..

Cons: Cant think of any... The lamest reason I can give is It's a big manual for a newbie... lots of options to tweak.. So, currently using the dynamic equilizer 2EQ... which sets up all the speakers automatically using a mic.

Other Thoughts: Heat is an issue, only if you stack this up with other stuff like the cablebox/dvr or other players... come..on folks... something that can outputs ~600W total (5+1 X100W).. Don't you think that would waste abt 100W in heat with all those transformers inside? Don't stack it... it needs to breathe. Still need to learn how to tweak the crossover to my satisfaction..

5 out of 5 eggsliking it

Pros: Like it very much. I bought a whole new Polk setup, 50s in the front, center and back satellites for a small bedroom. I had them on an old Yamaha receiver and the sound is definitely crisper. A bunch more options and customization. The unit comes with a mic that you can place where you're sitting, and will automatically adjust every speaker for you. I've never seen anything like that, maybe I'm just new to the higher end game but I love it. Thank you Onkyo. For $300 I am very happy.

Cons: Does run very hot as have the 3 other Onkyo receivers I have owned. For smaller rooms, with a computer, turn the AC up.

Other Thoughts: Have always gone with Onkyo, and for the price, I havent been able to find or read about better and I have done my homework before purchasing.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Feature Rich Receiver

Pros: Easy setup. Many high end features at a mid price point. They finally added an internal cooling fan.

Cons: Like several others, I've been unable to get the HDMI pass thru to work. Video yes, audio no. I'm continuing to fiddle about.

Other Thoughts: A friend has a 3 year old Onkyo home theater receiver that runs very hot. Due to this I was somewhat hesitant to purchase this. After reading reviews, several people mentioned the cooling fan. This receiver runs cool to the touch and the fan noise can barely be heard with my ear next to the unit.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Price-Great Sound

Pros: Incredible sound (will review video at later date). This unit replaced a Pioneer receiver that now powers my son's X-Box system. I only have 5 of my 9 speakers hooked up (Bose 301s and Energy surround system with 12" subwoofer). Just listening to music, even over the radio, I'm hearing notes I've missed for years. The clarity is phenomenal. I saw a review that was critical of having to crank up the volume to a high number.....to me this just means that the system is much wider ranging in its ability to deliver sound at a perfect level. It's not like I go from not loud enough to too stinking loud. It allows me to set it at the perfect level for what I am listening to. It is packed with features, 6 HDMI inputs, two component video inputs yada yada yada. For the price, and free shipping from NewEgg, I could not be happier.

Cons: I would love to see the following:
1. coaxial cable input to route an older Dish dvr directly through the Onkyo
2. The ability to output an external device hooked to "composite input" through the "component out". I know that composite and component inputs will route through the HDMI output, but I had a specific reason for the other.
3. On-screen menu even if the output to the tv is not through HDMI.
4. Have been unable to find the remote code for a Dish 625 dvr.

Other Thoughts: Overall, the cons are petty. I would highly recommend the unit, especially for the price. I'll update the review on video capabilities after I give it a thorough work out.

5 out of 5 eggsbetter than the SR608

Pros: There are a lot of pros with this receiver. One being that this is waaaay better than the SR608. I just want that to be known. Also, this has a lot of features. Thats good because alot of people don't use some of these features right now. But, when the these features become more affordable, they will be an asset. By then this receiver may be older, but it would be more appreciated as it will stand the test of time. Also, this is just a good price for a receiver. It gets really loud and you can hear all the sound and make adjustments to it as well as the bass. Its just a good receiver. Not a great receiver, there is a difference. It has a good look to it and if feels like a receiver. I hate receivers that look like VCRs or DVD players.

Cons: Like I said, this is a good receiver, not a great receiver. This is appartent when you get it. First of all, I have returned this product for defections. Not serious though, but my philosophy is that if it does something with in the first 30 days then I may use that option for taking it back.

That being said, it only shut off on me twice. I talked to the rep. He told me that it may be my speakers or a surge protection. This is legit but, I don't take any chances. But, it may just be that I bought this originally from "la-le-lu-le-lo" or ups that may have damaged it. But, anyway, thats just something I notice. The very first time I bought this system, the hdmi failed on me for 1 day. Afterwards, it worked pretty good. But, I returned it, just in case. But, like I said, it may have been something I did. I just get paranoid.

Other Thoughts: It is just weird that SR608 would pale in comparison to this system. More noticable was the volume control on the SR608. You have to turn it up to like 40 or 50 on the volume just to get some good sound out of it. On the RC260, (if you have your settings a certain way) one could turn it up to 15 and get a good sound from it. The SR608 seem like it would be better since it cost more (about 40 dollars more). But, the sound is way better on the RC260. The SR608 is not a horrible system it is just it is not better than the RC260. That is dissappointing. After, the last defect from my RC260, I traded it in for SR608 thinking it was better and I was sorry I did that. I am currently waiting on the RC260 to come to my house, I can't wait. Like the old saying goes, you don't know what you have until its gone. And, the grass isn't alway greener on the other side.
