5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great sound quality, as long as you place it in a open atmostphere, overheat won't be a problem.

Cons: The speaker wires that come with it are jokes, upgraded to a 16gauage. Other than that there aren't any cons that i can think of.

4 out of 5 eggsTo the people w/ no sound:

Pros: I too had the HDMI sound thing happen to me and I was EXTREMELY mad. I contacted Newegg (their customer service HAD been excellent in the past) but I got the same thing "You need to package everything to send it back" dumb. Who is really going to do that?

Luckily I contacted Onkyo and they had me do the dumb 'reset' thing too, still sound goes out w/ Default settings. At the bottom of the email it says "If the problem continues and you're product is under warranty from an Authorized Dealer (Newegg is) then you have 2yrs for free repair from Authorized Support" I found an 'Authorized Repair Center' which was about 40min away. The Tech seemed knowledgeable and aware of the problem, he said he had another unit there awaiting parts from Onkyo. I was happy that he and Onkyo knew of this problem and were repairing this (for free).

Product: Decent interface to setup... great once fully setup. 'On Screen Displays' are not bothersome, small, and slightly opaque.

Cons: I HATE the iPod On-Screen interface. They are not made for bigger memory units (16gb+) that are full of various Artist/Albums/Genres. It takes forever to load the screen, then once loaded, takes forever to find the stuff you want. It's better to just use the non-screen interface and control from your iPod.

The controller is OK. I understand this remote can control everything, but I think the part where you have to change between 'Receiver' and 'Custom' is dumb and confusing. I think they should research on how to simplify this. In reality I don't care because I have a Logitech Harmony controlling everything anyway, but I'm sure people who don't want a better controller.

Besides that all else is perfect and very simple.

Other Thoughts: This unit is great. Now that I know they back up their product quality, my next purchase and recommendations go to Onkyo.

Oh, and speakers sound good too... at least for an apartment, probably not for a bigger house's living room.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty, pretty good

Pros: Setup is a piece of cake. You just match all the colors up, and plug in the setup mic where you would sit and magic happens. It automatically adjusts all the levels for each speaker to correct for your room's acoustics. Everything is exactly what I expected out of box, no surprises, and the quality of the speakers for a theater kit in this price range is pretty good.

Cons: The wires for the middle and back speakers were a bit shorter than I'd hoped. My living room is fairly average sized, but the only way I could connect some of the speakers was to just run the wires straight across the floor, so I'll be replacing them. The iPod dock is kind of dated and my iPhone 4 doesn't seat very well in it, but it plays and charges through it.

Other Thoughts: This is my second Onkyo kit I've gotten. Both I've been pretty impressed with the sound quality. The last one I got had weak HDMI support that was basically useless, but this one does everything with HDMI, including HDMI remote control support.

5 out of 5 eggsI want hotdog!

Pros: - Amazing Sound
- All my systems hook into it (Wii, XBOX 360, PS3, PS2, HD DVR, Laptop, and there is room for more)
- Easy Hook up
- Ipod Adapter is awesome!
- They look great

Cons: -Heats up a bit but not a big deal at all.
-The wires are pretty small and I was going to replace them because that's what others recommend but I haven't and I don't think I'm going too. It sounds great.

Other Thoughts: I love it! I was searching for months trying to find the best surround sound system for a reasonable price and with no doubt, this is it. I love this thing! Playing any game with this sound system is life changing. I'm a huge film buff with 200+ DVDs and I fell like before I got this I've never really seen a movie. I got this thing about a year ago and I'm still amazed at how great it is! My laptop has an HDMI port in it so I can watch videos on my laptop in surround sound. So cool! Even though most Movies and games aren't in 7.1 these speakers simulate 7.1 surround sound. So sound does come out of all 7 speakers, and more 7.1 products are being made all the time. Get on it! Don't waste another day without it! Also this site has the best deal. I got it on sale for $750. I'm a cheap person but I'm so glad I dropped the money on this. And I got it like 3 days after I ordered it. I would have gladly spent more. If you're still not sure if you should get this, STOP THINKING! GET IT!

5 out of 5 eggsExceeds Expectations

Pros: This system is everything it is cut out to be. It rocks. I'm not sure what the big deal is on the wiring that comes with it I certainly didn't hear any degradation in sound quality due to the wiring. I found the color coding very helpful and got the job done.

Cons: I have none that I can think of ahh the box is big an hard to throw away .

Other Thoughts: As usual ( and it is the norm with New Egg and not the exception) their processing of orders is world class. No doubt operating at six sigma or above. Quick, intact and earlier than expected.

1 out of 5 eggsProblems already....

Pros: Unit came in 3/24/2001
Very easy hookup. I got the monster wire too. Plug and play kinda deal! Sounded great until it stopped working..

Cons: Issue 3/26/2011
Had this unit for 3 days. I plugged my iPhone to the system and blasted it at 55. I just turned on the unit so no isses with heat. I also have it on a glass shelf with plenty of room to breath! 5min into my work out g.o.d. says let their be silence, and silence there was.... Unit was not hot at all. I performed the reset, nothing. Checked all the wires which i didn't need to since nothing was moved, nothing. I still had video thru my direct tv box and well as my PS3 but no sound. I called up Onkyo! I followed all the steps given and still nothing. I don't even get a buzz from the speakers if i turn up the volume..

Other Thoughts: If i can't blast this thing whats the point in having all the speakers.. I definitely didn't purchase this thing for show!!!

I'll update if anything gets resolved or simply returned.

1 out of 5 eggsFrustration and Agrivation!!!!

Pros: Sound is amazing! The sub rocks my house.

Cons: The HDMI interface on my unit is defective. The picture deteriorates the longer the system is on until all I have is snow. If I turn the unit off the picture returns to the screen. Called NEWEGG but they would only do the RMA if I had original packaging. Its a huge box. I hooked up the system. It worked fine for the first few days so it got tossed. ONKYO will fix it but I have to foot the bill to ship it to Denver from KC. Guess I'll have to find out what that's going to set me back.

Other Thoughts: The sound is truly great but without the HDMI working properly it limits it's potential. This whole experience has been highly frustrating. I am not pleased!!

5 out of 5 eggsTerrific Price to Performance ratio!!

Pros: This HTIB setup is a perfect purchase for the price. I live in an apartment so I wanted a HTIB and not a piece-by-piece setup. I researched HTIB setups for about 4 months before pulling the trigger on this. I read reviews all over the net and decided on this setup. I waited until the price dropped and found the website listing it for the least.

This is what I wanted in a setup;

-7.1, with the option of an addition A/B speaker for a total of 9.1 speaker.
-1080p up scaling, I run my computer trough the receiver to watch TV and internet and the receiver dramatically improved the quality
-ipod dock was a nice bonus
-Dolby TrueHD / Pro Logic IIz / dts-HD Master Audio / Dolby Digital Plus / dts-HD High Resolution Audio (would have liked THX but cannot justify spending so much more on a format that very few products utilize)
-Audyssey 2EQ, Dynamic Volume, Dynamic EQ speaker calibration/room equalization with included microphone
-Front floor standing speakers
-warranty on the r

Cons: Only "con", that others mentioned as well, is the included speaker wire. The included wire is 24 gauge and that is too small of a gauge to be using for this kind of setup. I purchased a spool of 100ft 16 gauge RCA speaker wire or less than $15. Do yourself a favor and get new wire.

I read so many reviews about Onkyo units getting hot or over heating. I have no idea where these people are putting their receivers but this is NOT an issue with Onkyo. If you have never owned a receiver before, you must understand that they will get "warm" because they require a lot of power. They are decoding and processing a lot of audio (and now video). They are also an amplifier and powering all speakers connected. You cannot cram these into small places. I have 6-8 inches of breathable air above my receiver and have absolutely no heat problems (have had it running for 10.5 hours).

Other Thoughts: I actually purchased this through a competitor (starts with an because it was cheaper by more that $50 (rare, I know!). In hindsight, I would have gladly purchased this through the egg because at $600, this HTIB is just incredible.

Do not hesitate to buy this HTIB from Onkyo. You will not be disappointed. I would highly recommend this product to both friends and family and would also recommend any Onkyo product in general.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing System!!!!!!!!!

Pros: Beautiful sound, great bass, listening modes, ipod dock, great center channel speaker, 1080p up convert any signal. Let me start off by saying that this system is exactly what i expected from onkyo. Im use to the Pioneer systems so getting to play with this system was great fun. I upgrade from a Logitech z-5500 to this beast for my 12x10 Bedroom (lol) yeah i know huge system for a tiny room. The power of this thing will take your breathe away. YOu wont regret getting this beast especially at the great price of 599, Don't hesitate get it!!!HUMONGOUS difference between dolby digital/DTS and Uncompressed DD and DTS, DOlby digital usually streams at 418kbps and DTS at 1.2mbps, DD HD and DTS HD Streams at 5+Mbps!! HUGE DIFFERENCE!

Cons: Like others said invest in a thicker speaker wire and a thicker coax cable for the sub woofer. This system runs hot when space is limited, but i rigged some computer 120mm fans blowing out from where the heat sink is on the receiver and let me tell you, when watching movies at 60 volume the receiver stays warm to the touch, before the fans it would run quiet hot so either have tons of air space 18" above and 8 on the sides or get some kind of air moving system going on.

Other Thoughts: Great for the money, 12000watts of pure digital bliss, BUY NOW!! Set your Bluray players to Linear PCM!! and your Receiver to Direct :D - One more thing, if you hear random clicks from the receiver while listening to movies at a normal level i believe it is the Safe switch switching on just incase it over heats! it happened to me once but fixed this problem after setting up some big 120mm fans on the heat sink. USE A SURGE PROTECTOR!
