5 out of 5 eggsBest bang/buck system

Pros: Best system available for the money

Cons: It's no longer available

Other Thoughts: Newegg why aren't you ordering more of these? Onkyo still has this model on it's site and this is EASILY the best sound system/dollar.

PLEASE order more.

5 out of 5 eggsGood sound, simple to set up

Pros: Got this for Christmas and set it up in minutes. Great sound quality with options to add on (you can add additional center and surround speakers if you want to). Little speakers that provide good sound!

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsMore people should own this

Pros: Great sound for the price. Multiple HDMI inputs, digital inputs, and analog inputs. Audio Return Channel works with our TV flawlessly. Reliable.

Cons: None apparent.

Other Thoughts: If you need a digital audio receiver, speakers, ARC, and HDMI inputs, this should be on your shortlist.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product for the price

Pros: This was perfect for my living room. Didn't want to run speaker wire everywhere. Just wanted to boost the TV's speakers. It was a very quick physical install. Speakers sound quality is great for a small room. My TV only had two HDMI ports, so the three input HDMI ports on this were great. Playing Pandora and Netflix through this sounds great.

Cons: Just another remote added to the list of many I have...I really should get a universal remote.

Other Thoughts: I got this on sale for 250. A great bargain. This is perfect for a small apartment or someone looking to boost the sound on a TV without making a project of it. It is compact, quick, and neat.

5 out of 5 eggsCompact, Good for what it's for

Pros: It's got a small footprint, and fits where I wanted it to. I realized I didn't need a 5.1 system in my new apt, so I went for this instead. It worked out well

Cons: Well it doesn't sound like a 5.1 system. Not as immersive, the bass isn't as enveloping. But I kind of expected that.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line, if you don't need/want a 5.1 setup, this fits the bill. Better than your TV speakers, anyway, for sure.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performance

Pros: The design is minimal (good thing for me) and the finish is attractive. It has a small footprint and ample inputs. The sound quality is good but not awesome. At this price, however, the sound exceeds expectations. Also, it can decode a plethora of sound data. One thing I might do is add a center speaker to make the sound even better for movies.

Cons: The remote is cheesy. Also, the subwoofer is exposed on the underside of the main box/controller. Whoops! Why would someone design this that way? So, be careful and watch the warning signs when lifting it out of the box. I was OK and once it is installed the worrying is over.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line: this is a great system for entering home theater and not being left without a feature that might ruin your day. Also, you can "upgrade" to 5.1. On the other hand, I like to keep it simple.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for my needs

Pros: * Easy to set up
* Compact
* Great sound for the money
* Expandability
* Nice aesthetics

Cons: * Remote feels/is cheap
* Could probably use more HDMI-in ports eventually, but 3 is pretty good
* Wasn't free?

Other Thoughts: In February I bought an Onkyo HT-S5200 7.1ch surround system, which worked great for all of an hour before erupting in smoke. I returned it and got my money back, but the process taught me a very important thing: my living room isn't really conducive to a full surround setup and I was probably spending more money than I had a reason to.

Fast forward a few months and I'm once again getting tired of the rattling speakers in my HDTV. I did a bit of research and despite my bad previous experience I ended up settling on the HTX-22HDX, as it appeared to fit my needs perfectly. Two speakers and a sub, with the head unit contained in the sub body. Brilliant!

And it is! The sound won't be mistaken for a full 5.1 or 7.1 setup, but it's deep and rich and loud and certainly a huge advance from the speakers built into my TV. That's what I was looking for, and that's what I got.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent 2.1 solution

Pros: The main reason I got this system was for the ample amount of inputs, besides the fact that it decodes every audio format there is out there. I use this unit with my computer replacing my Bose Companion series ii speakers. The unit can be upgraded to a full 5.1 system with optional center & rear speakers makes this unit worth keeping. The sound is clear and does not sound as treble heavy as some other 2.1 systems. Had to tweak the bass settings a bit to get the sound that I wanted. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the sound. I'd recommend this system for someone living in an apartment or for use in a bedroom.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Newegg had it on sale for $229 with free shipping on Black Friday, which was quite a steal. I'm just looking forward to getting the optional speakers set for the unit when it becomes available in the US. Right now, just the center speaker for the unit costs a close to $100 online, which is quite expensive.
