Pros: Best price I found for a full featured receiver with speakers and a powered sub. Network connectivity is great for net radio. No hassle hook-up, just plugged into my switch and it worked. Comes with only 5 speakers but is actually a 7.1 ch system. I had another pair of speakers already so I got an extra bonus. Tons of options for set-up of sound fields. Sounds great with music or movies. Video performance is good with Comcast HD, XBox360, Sony BLu-ray, and VGA PC input all tested. Smart phone remote app available.
Cons: Remote is a bit confusing for some operations, but I assume the more I use it the easier it will get. Otherwise, no complaints.
Other Thoughts: I got this on sale for a bit over half the $799 list it has right now. Not sure how the pricing stands up in that range to other offerings, but if you can pick it up on sale, you will not be disappointed.

Rating: 5/5Great
Pros: Sound out of this system, for the cheap price it is right now (4 bills) is great. The amp alone could sell for that price. It actually has 5 hdmi passthrough, as some have pointed out. The CEC technology that allows you to control certain connected devices is fantastic... I turn my TV on and the sound system and cable box come on. I really only need 1 remote for everything.
A HUGE pro for me was that it comes with tons of internet radio apps built in, including Spotify. The screen on the front of the receiver shows a lot of info, but the real gem is the OSD that pops up on your tv. It allows you to control every aspect of the system in a decent looking set of menus.
The speakers, while not ground breaking, are alright. The receiver is THX certified, but the included speakers aren't. However, they sound much clearer than nearly any other system I've heard for anywhere near this price. They're a little on the large side (for a HT in a box) but not huge. Comes with enough wire to wire up in a small to medium sized room, but if you're looking to hide the wire away, you'll want to get more (and get a heavier wire, too...)
Cons: The receiver and subwoofer are both quite large. The receiver throws a bit of heat, so you need to make sure you not only have the room for it, but a little extra and some way to vent the heat. For its size, the sub doesn't do near as well as I would expect. That's not to say it's bad, it's just not as good as I hoped when I opened the box.
If you are used to plugging everything into your TV (blu ray, computer, cable box, etc) via HDMI, make sure you have/purchase an extra cord. You will need it to hook the box to the TV.
Other Thoughts: I browsed several dozen systems at local and online retailers and just happened to stumble upon this beauty. This is the nicest receiver you are going to find for even twice the cost. It has TONS of hookups for every A/V input you could imagine (2 coax and 2 optical?!) and can handle 7.1 sound.

Rating: 4/5Great system with upgraded features.
Pros: Good power. Deep menu. Lots of inputs. Features of their higher end products. Speakers sound good, and handle power well. Line level Sub out. Binding Posts for speaker out. Front input. I was able to program the remote to control all my other systems.
Cons: It takes time to play with the menus to achieve good sound. Remote is confusing until you figure it out. Remote is not back-lit. Speaker wire provided is short, and quite small gauge.
Other Thoughts: I looked at several audio options to go with my new 60" plasma TV. Considered sound bars, other all in one packaged systems, and picking out separate receivers and speakers. I decided on the ONKYO HT-S7409 Receiver/Speaker Package. This system has a receiver that is great. It has many higher end features. I figured can always upgrade the speakers if needed, but have found them to be decent for now. The sub is good, but I do have it full up to achieve a solid sound. I found the auto set up to be good, but I have since adjusted all the parameters to get it right for my room. I found the need to bump each speaker output some to get the full volume I expected, but it responded well. The menus are deep, and can be confusing, but that is true of any receiver with so many features.

Rating: 4/5Pretty nice
Pros: this system is really a 6 in 1 hdmi, the description is wrong. its pretty and sounds great, set up is quick. stuff in dts-hd master is freakin amazing! the sub is above average, he other speakers are great for a small to medium room.
Cons: the receiver is thx but the speakers are not. they are plastic and the front covers dont come off.
Other Thoughts: i bought some polk audio 60's and now i need to get rid of the center cause it just cant keep up with the polks. BUT now I have 7.1

Rating: 1/5More time and money then what its worth.
Pros: Lots of options, presets, sound and at the time, price.
Cons: Big, heavy and gets hot.
Other Thoughts: I've had it for almost a year. Then it started giving me the "check sp wire". Tried everything to troubleshoot. Then I smelled smoke. Called tech support and they told me I could send it to one of their service centers. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to send this 50lbs receiver to a service center. Well at least I have 3yrs to figure it out. I cant return the product cause I don't have original box. What a waste of money. This only gets one egg because it is now a very expensive receiver: How to properly box, and cost for shipping to the service center. And then be charged again for service center to return it plus the cost of insurance and shipping. Sounds fun. Next time I wont buy something this expensive unless local. Thanks Onkyo for producing such a hassle product.

Rating: 4/5Great Unit
Pros: - Great Audio quality - Great Bass Overall a good unit, it's my first full receiver to set up, took me a bit but I got it figured out. Sounds great, works with all my devices except my PC (Info in cons), menus are fairly easy to work in.
Cons: PC Input (Dsub/VGA) does not work. I have tried everything from unplugging the receiver and changing all the settings. Nothing seems to work. It's not a huge issue for me as I have better (and longer) speaker wire coming in, as well as an HDMI adapter for my graphics card.
Other Thoughts: Other than the PC input, this was a fairly easy setup for me. Will probably buy a new set of speakers to flesh out the full 7.1 capabilities, but otherwise very pleased with this unit.

Rating: 4/5great receiver, speakers suck
Pros: receiver is great, LOTS of options. easy setup. I like the system, I upgraded from a HTIB yamaha that was 6 years old. the ms's thinks its about the same but i think the sounds are way more detailed. it really makes you feel like you are in the show\movie.
Cons: it doesn't seem to have a lot of deep boom to it, thought when i set up the mic thing i had the bass up all the way, i will change that and hopefully be able to crank it up, also when i wall mounted it, it sounds kinda of tinny now. Just means lots of options and tweaking.
Other Thoughts: I would recommend it. SADLY though the speaker do not seem to be THX certified. Just the receiver. Very sad on onkyo side. The speakers should also be thx certified. I may upgrade the front and center speaker one day but not for a long time. if you have the money upgrade to the better thx speakers and 1023 watt receiver.

Rating: 4/5Great Quality with a low price!
Pros: A lot of bang for the buck and easy setup and install
Cons: I can't find too many for a system so measly priced.
Other Thoughts: I paid $399 for this setup and man what a deal! Network Receiver and 5.1 surround. I priced out a lot of other setups and nothing was even close to this. Granted the speakers aren't the best (for audiophiles), but for the sound quality is decent enough for me.

Rating: 5/5So happy.
Pros: - dB based (i.e. non-linear) volume controls - great menus - great sound - very configurable - SO MANY INPUTS! :D The online info keeps contradicting itself, but the one *I* got has 5 HDMI inputs - great upscaling of 2 channel sound - upscaling of component and composite video
Cons: I consider these all nit-picks; it's a fantastic system: - rear speaker wires too short for a decent sized room - it would be nice to be able to assign any video input plus any audio input together into one output stream - DVI in would be nice - the net radio mode doesn't seem to show track names for radio streams - the remote has different menu arrow and select button codes for the setup menus and the net mode, so that I can't program my universal remote to be able to both navigate the Onkyo's menus *and* select net radio stations on the onkyo. That's bizarre and pointless, and is the only real "WTH?" moment I've had with this system so far.
Other Thoughts: I got it on special for like 499; *fantastic* for the price.

Rating: 4/5NOT IN A IMAX THEATER
Pros: THE SYSTEM IS GOOD OUT OF THE BOX BUT IT KICKS IT WHEN YOU ADD A PAIR OF JBL STUDIO MONITERS MODEL L20T TO THE FRONT CHANNEL, THIS TOPS IT OFF FILLS IN SOME MIDRANGE AND ROUNDS OFF OR FILLS ANY GAPS PLEASE NOTE THE JBL'S ARE NOT PERFECT THEY LACK BASE AND SOME CRISPNESS TO THE OVERALL SOUND. GOOD FOR THE PRICE. I AM PLANING TO UPGRADE THE SPEAKER WIRES SOON.
Cons: THE NOT YEAT SURE HOW TO USE ALL OF THE FEATURS JUST HAD A FEW DAYS. THE SMALL SPEAKERS ARE JUST OK AND CAN USE A UPGRADE.
Other Thoughts: YOU MAY WANT TO INVEST A LITTLE MORE MONEY ON A SYSTEM?
