3D Video and Audio Return Channel via HDMI

Four HDMI inputs on allow seamless integration of high-definition devices such as Blu-ray players, cable/satellite tuners, and gaming consoles. HDMI implementation on this receiver also supports an Audio Return Channel, allowing TV audio to be sent upstream to the A/V receiver. That means you can enjoy television programs in magnificent Onkyo sound. HDMI also supports 3D video and other popular high-resolution formats.

Direct Digital Connection: The Cleanest Your iPod Can Sound

The front-panel USB port lets you play MP3 and AAC stored in an iPod/iPhone, and MP3, WMA, AAC, and FLAC audio files stored on a flash-memory device, and you can use the system's own remote for track selection and playback. Your music will sound much cleaner and clearer, as the audio signal is transported in digital rather than analog form through the direct digital connection.

ONKYO's WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) Delivers Higher Fidelity

WRAT is a suite of innovative technologies developed to improve signal-to-noise ratios, and to enhance the fidelity of amplified audio. The technologies work to reduce noise across the frequency range, guaranteeing a well-balanced performance even with the most dynamic soundtracks. It achieves this by employing a low negative-feedback amplifier design; using “closed” ground-loop circuitry to cancel noise from individual circuits; and by ensuring high instantaneous-current capability to cancel reflex energy and impedance fluctuations from the speakers. The first being the subwoofer. It is not a powered subwoofer, which tends to be very distorted when it comes to explosions in video games and movies, however, for music, it works great. The other thing I have noticed is that when I turn my xbox on first, then the unit, it does not automatically select Pro-logic II (surround sound), it starts up in stereo mode. In order for the proper sound selection to register, I have to turn the unit of first, then the xbox, then it will automatically load into Game mode Dolby Digital Pro-Logic II or PLII. I then will be able to play my game in surround sound. It did take me a few months to realize why my sound wasnt always "surround", full and crisp, then I realized this and now I am satisfied everytime I game. Did you find this review helpful? I am still using the wire that came with, but might not be a bad idea to get some different speaker wire. Sounds good and has a good volume range. Cons: This might be my remote, but there are times when the remote would turn the unit on/off or be able to switch between the different sound types. Not a huge deal for me, and might be an issue with just my remote. Other Thoughts: I have it hooked up to a xbox and blu-ray player. Games and movies along with TV all sound great. Sound Quality is exceptional as long you know how to properly calibrate. Great power even with a 660watt max even better than my last 1000watt samsung. Has all the latest nice things 3D support usb interface multiple HDMI hookups all the latest sound encoders each customizable to your liking. Cons: Poopie speaker wire. So i bought 100' 14g wire (i personally prefer thicker wire. It may draw more power but man does it keep the quality) The top gets quite hot so make sure you give breathing room. You get a certain muddiness when you crank it quite high.. like.. very high.. but that is unaviodable if your spending under $2,000 and not rolling the Bose world. Other Thoughts: Overall I am very satisfied. Onkyo is not as prestiege as it was in the 80's.... man were those systems beautiful...but still glad to know that they still are hear delivering their same great quality. Cons: • I only use one HDMI input (GAME for my PS3) and so, if I'm watching TV and the output on that is the "TV/DVD" or w/e selection... Other Thoughts: The HDMI configuration it could be a nightmare if you don't know how to set propertly BluRay players,PS3 or other HD video.Most of the common issues by average owners is the wrong settings of system and review product to the lowest rating,First,improving default color code speaker wires for 12,14 or16 gauges will make a huge Sound difference,for example.Going and reviewing BD Players Audio settings and changing default settings will fix lack of sound.Onkio is a good Brand and really affordable for all kinds of pockets. No hassle everything worked right out of the box. supports Ipod, Itouch, Ipad. It can play from your playlists, 4 pass through HDMI which can upscale from 2.0 input to 5.1 channel surround. Easy to navigate and install. AM/FM tuner that allows for easy search of your favorite radio station which come in clear. Attached this to my Xbox and hear glass shattering from the right rear surround speaker which made me shift my head thinking the mirror next to it broke. I've had systems before that only did 180w total but this clearly has surpassed my expectations. Truly a great buy for a medium system that you want to use for home theater. The Onkyo S-3500 was the missing link in my Home Theater system. The color coding on the wires seems like a cool idea although I utilized the wires already in my walls and had it setup pretty quick. Cons: I didn't understand how to get my Wii to work. After some pain staking research I now understand that the HDMI in will only output on the HDMI out and the A/V in will only go through to the A/V OUT...-another words the unit is not what they call a "digital converter" which probably means less signal loss. 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful.
