harman/kardon HKTS 11 5.1CH Home Cinema Speaker System

Pros: After reading many reviews finnally settled with this set against the Bose Homestyle V20, and boy I was so glad I did. Yes this is only a speaker set and you have to buy a seperate reciever to reveal its full potential, and yes the look isn't as elegant as the Bose and the set up isn't as easy as the Bose but since I'm buying a speaker, sound is all it matters.

And as a matter of fact, I saved 1500 bucks by going with this set with the H/K AVR146 reviever and I can only say this system sound just as good as the Bose demo in the BB store if not better.

Cons: The wall mount for the speakers is poorly designed... very difficult to install.

Pros: This is my first home stereo speaker set, and I am definitely pleased. Not only does my regular television sound better than it ever has, but my xbox 360 gaming has become more enjoyable. Rock Band has never sounded so good! The subwoofer is larger than I expected... stands about 15 inches off the ground, and that thing will put out some serious noise. When cranked up it shakes the foundation of my apartment.

Cons: I can't turn it up very far without disrupting my neighbors... can't wait to move out of my apartment. As far as the product goes, I've experienced no cons so far.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this with the HK AVR Receiver, and they work together beautifully. I did have a bit of trouble setting it up, but that's due to my inexperience with stereo systems, not at all because of the products.

Pros: Very nice package. Looks great. surround speakers sound great and subwoofer rocks the house.

Cons: Mounting system not well thought out. Brackets do not come with screws and seems to be designed for wall mount rather than ceilings. My house has prewiring in the ceilings so thats where I put the speakers. in then end the it worked out ok but the brackets are not that well thought out.

Other Thoughts: For the price, you cant go wrong with this set.

Pros: Speakers run the pricing gambit from several hundred to several thousands of dollars, but for the money these ones are tough to beat. Once properly set-up and calibrated they provide a rich, deep sound, and with the proper input totally envelop you with well-separated surround sound. The speakers depend on the subwoofer for the bass - and what bass it is! The subwoofer is adjustable via a dial on the back so you have total control over the amount of low-end bass. I have mine paired with an Onkyo TX-SR605 A/V receiver so I use these speakers for everything in my entertainment center (TV, PS3, DVD/CD, Tuner) and have no complaints with the sound quality from any of the sources.

Cons: The woofer is a little larger than I was expecting, but has a nice glossy black finish and can be placed most anywhere. I like having it out in full view, but not everyone might.

Other Thoughts: Just to be clear, when I say "excellent", I'm making a value comparison with other sets in this price range. There are better speakers for much more money, but for the average user these will do quite nicely!

It's tough to find professional reviews on these units, but spec-wise they are essentially the same as the HKTS-18, and I believe were the speaker set included with Harman/Kardon's HS 300 "Home Theater" setup.

Pros: Great sound. Big heavy subwoofer sounds superb. Includes wall-mounting hardware.

Cons: Wall mounting hardware could have been of a little better quality. Once mounted on wall, speakers can be adjusted left or right, but not up or down. Had to buy an additional mount for the center speaker in order to get it to point downwards. Wire connecters are kinda cheap.

Other Thoughts: I use this as my computer speaker setup. Better than any pre-packaged computer speaker setup I've owned. I have the speakers wall mounted. I bought this with the AVR-146 and it's a great computer gaming setup. It can also be a great home theater setup for small or medium size rooms.

Pros: the sub rocks. The speakers all sound very good. For the price, this is hard to beat.

Cons: the wiring seems a little thin. The wall mounts don't come with screws!!?? You have to buy your own screws to mount them. The mounting system is not very flexible.

Other Thoughts: This model was replaced by the HKTS 18 speaker systems, but I think they are pretty much the same.
