5 out of 5 eggsGreat antenna

Pros: Easy set-up with some antenna adjusting. Near a window works well. I have my antenna about 6 feet away from the window and it works well. Maybe with an extension and moving the antenna to the window I could get more channels. I live in NYC and I get 41 channels. About a third of the channels are spanish but 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13 are normal channels for NYC. They all come very clear. I get other channels and I am pleased to see they are clear also. I did initially have less channels and some were breaking up but I found the strongest signal by adjusting the rabbit ears, fully extended in different directions, and pointing the antenna towards the window. Also, placing the antenna higher works for me. On top of my speaker column.

Cons: No problems.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Antenna

Pros: It works for channels that are nearby.

Cons: Very poor performance for channels >10 miles away. The amplifier feature, if turned on and set to anything other than MINIMUM kills the signal. What is the point of the amplifier???

2 out of 5 eggsNot Worth Extra Money

Pros: It is small and looks sharp.

Cons: I have a ten dollar pair of rabbit ears I bought locally that run circles around this thing. I lost channels I had with the rabbit ears. The "power" portion actually makes most channels worse.

Other Thoughts: I'd buy a cheaper set of rabbit ears if I had to do it again.

4 out of 5 eggsFair Price Good Product

Pros: It offers 55db of amplification which is the largest amount offered by any indoor antenna that I’ve found. The dipoles or rods (which are what most people think of when they think antenna) are very long; which is what helps with receiving signals better indoors. I was able to get the one channel I wanted the most and had the most trouble receiving (The Retro Channel, because I love old TV shows like Peter Gunn, The Rifleman & I Spy). The long dipoles and amplification help with receiving clear signals with little to no pixilation as anyone who has dealt with Digital TV knows High Buildings, Tall Trees, and Bad Weather can greatly affect the quality of the signal and picture you receive, but I watched programming all day Saturday with all three issues in effect and had no issues or pixilation so I’m very satisfied. I also love the price, while lesser powered amps go for $25 and up plus tax I got this one for under $23 with fast free shipping, can’t beat that.

Cons: There were several channels I was able to receive with a Philips Powered Antenna that I couldn’t receive with the RCA and it had very short dipoles and only 18db of amplification, but seeing as how I wouldn’t have watched those channels anyway, it’s not that big of a deal I just find it a bit strange considering the better specs of this antenna. Another thing I liked about the Philips is the amplification was adjustable with a little knob, while this antenna’s amp is an on/off switch so you either receive all 55db or nothing. I have read where too much amplification can lead to a distorted image, but as it hasn’t happened yet, I guess I won’t worry about it.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps adjusting the dipoles would solve the issue of the missing channels, but since I wouldn’t have watched those channels anyway????? If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Between these new Digital channels, Hulu, & Youtube I guess I’ll be getting rid of Cable TV altogether, saving $70 a month and investing half of those savings in a faster internet connection.
