2 out of 5 eggsCheap but not very useful

Pros: low price

Cons: Looks and feel very cheap, VERY slow response when press on any button, cannot play Mp3 music, cannot play any video files in popular video format (mp4, avi, wmv, etc)

Other Thoughts: The first unit I received does not work. Newegg did a good job to send me a replacement quickly. It does play DVD and Blu-ray, and the sound was OK for the price, Netflix also work, but very disappointed that such a device made in 2012 does not play MP3, Mp4, AVI, etc.

1 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: Great features. Decent audio for a smaller space; especially if you do not want to disturb others, yet have the enjoyment of a full sounding audio spectrum when enjoying a movie or audio stream. With Pandora and Netflix included in the menu choices, being entertained is fairly simple.

Cons: The processor is pretty slow. So sometimes you might think it was non-functioning. Then it will finally react to your selection on the remote.
Why this was a refurb I have now discovered. After about 4 uses, the DVD player loses the ability to read, and hangs up in a seek cycle, disabling the entire system, as well as the remote. The only function that will operate at that point, is [POWER OFF]. So I assume that the refurb process consists of "get it going well enough to get out the door." After the 30days of warranty, you'll find out why. As it happens, I never set this up until a few weeks ago, long after the expiration of the warranty. Had I done so immediately, I might have a replacement. But instead, I got to use it 5 times in 13 days before it failed. I placed the failing DVD into the PC and it plays perfectly.

Other Thoughts: For $40 is was worth the gamble to find out if a Newegg refurb was a good gamble. In my experience, not so much. But for only $40 I found out not to ever buy refurb again.

4 out of 5 eggsNo complaints

Pros: At this price i was not expecting much. Thankfully the quality was fine. i have yet to test a blue ray disk but the unit played a dvd fine. Audio sounds fine although i used a powered sub woofer from an old stereo.

Cons: unit is a bit slow in the menus and, unless i missed a setting, did not power on to last state.

Other Thoughts: for the price i can not complain much. I do wish it had WiFi rather then a wired connection but that can be fixed. Everyone that is having issues with the drive not working please make sure the unit is in media mode. That is the only time the drive would work.

1 out of 5 eggswrong spec

Pros: cheap

Cons: I requested our purchasing department to buy this blue-ray player for my component video test for one of my products.
But when I got it today, this player has NO component output at all.

Really disappointed.

1 out of 5 eggsBlu Ray Player Very Unstable

Pros: It Turns On and looks to be brand new!!

Cons: Out of 100+ tries, got the tray to open up a few times. This only happens from a "cold start" by unplugging the player. After inserting a Blu Ray disc, I get nothing. No menu, play options etc. I thought I might be one of the lucky ones. No such luck here.

Other Thoughts: After reading various reviews on this player from multiple sights, I guess I should have known better. Please use discretion when considering this item.

3 out of 5 eggsProblem with blu-ray tray

Pros: The sound is pretty good and the main features (plays DVDs/BluRays) are functional.

Cons: -- It's really difficult to get DVD/blurays out of this machine. Involves turning on and off several times and switching inputs. Still haven't figured out a reproducible solution yet. Pretty annoying.

-- The fan pretty loud.

-- Netflix app is sooo sluggish. Thankfully I have another device for streaming netflix. I don't think I'd be able to stand it with this machine.

Other Thoughts: Cheap! If factoring in price, I'd give this 5 eggs. Got a refurbished model for only $65. A bluray plus decent sound system is pretty darn good for that price and I can deal with the annoyances.

3 out of 5 eggsMediocre Deal, at Best

Pros: The system was cheap, sounds good, and for the most part is functional. The optical input allows all of my devices connected to the tv to output thru this sytem. If purchased new, this would be a great product.

Cons: The company who is refurbishing these units is AWFUL. Mine worked fine for a week then developed an awful sound coming from the cooling fan (bad fan bearing). I work on computers for a living, so I'll take my chances replacing the fan myself instead of paying $15 to ship it to California and hoping it comes back in better shape than I sent it in.

Other Thoughts: The Newegg product page says NINETY DAY WARRANTY, but the product card you'll get with it says THIRTY DAYS.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: I was skeptical about pulling the trigger on this given the less than stellar reviews, but it was a breeze to setup and works great. And the Shellshocker price made it a real no-brainer!

Cons: I needed to buy an RCA cable to hook it up to my 40" LED TV.
