KEF MODEL3 Home Audio Speakers combine KEF’s proven Uni-Q ‘point source’ driver array from the award-winning KHT separates system with a unique new application of NXT flat panel technology, delivering detailed 3D surround effect from just two speakers positioned at the front of the room, with no need for speakers and cables behind the listener.
Like all great ideas, the concept is simple. The vertical NXT flat panels behind the main arrays create virtual rear effects speakers, while the Uni-Q drivers create a perfect‘phantom’ centre speaker right in the middle of the screen – just like the movies. The effect is certainly impressive, with pin-sharp dialogue and vocals appearing to come from the performers’ mouths as if they were physically there. The same is true for rear effects – with your eyes closed, you’d swear the sound was coming from behind you. The acoustic illusion of all three virtual speakers is accentuated by the Uni-Q driver configuration, which spreads the sound image over a much larger area than a conventional speaker.
My Home Theater system is now complete!!
Pros: - They were on sale
Cons: - Would have preferred the all black speakers, but the silver is matte finished at least, not too bad
Other Thoughts: The extra input is a great feature. I'm using these for rear surrounds and now am able to wire my system as 7.1 by using the side (flat) speakers as my surround back channels. Because the round speakers are pointing toward each other (listening position in the middle), the side speakers face the front speakers and play mostly ambient-type sounds. The result (if your receiver is capable of Dolby EX or DTS 6) is a slightly more immersive sound field.

Pros: Pretty. Aluminum housing is very substantial and nice. Each speaker has two sets of inputs. One for front surround and the other for rear surround. So it's like getting four speakers for the price of two. The surround drivers are on the side of each speaker and send sound around through bouncing off the walls while the front surround are the drivers visible in front. Instructions say to aim the front drivers in toward the middle to get a center channel effect. Works pretty durn good.
Cons: Not much except maybe if you thought these were typical single-channel speakers instead of two in one design.
Other Thoughts: Chile torniado gives me the runs.
