KEF Five Two Series MDL7 SAT SIL Five-Channel Speaker System - Silver

The compact Model 7 (with seven drivers in each speaker) is ideal for the minimalist look. Voices sound real and precisely located. Ambient effects travel through a realistic three-dimensional soundscape as the director intended. On screen action comes alive for everyone in the room, wherever they sit.
inavationaward Available in sleek matte silver or high gloss black, they can be mounted either on adjustable wall brackets or floor stands. And in harmony with the thinking behind the whole concept, they're exceptionally simple to set up. All you have to do is connect the supplied cables to your 5.1-channel home theatre receiver or amp.
5.1 set-up

Sound reproduction should be invisible – you want surround sound, with the hardware as unobtrusive as possible. That's why KEF developed an alternative to the traditional five speaker home theatre systems. As its name implies, the Five Two series envelops you in the surround sound of a full 5.1 set-up using only two speakers and a subwoofer.
Uni-Q Uni-Q®

The secret lies in combining KEF's acclaimed Uni-Q "sit anywhere" driver concept with flat panel technology. Each speaker has a front-firing array of Uni-Q drivers from the award-winning KHT5000 and KHT6000 Series, providing true dedicated centre speakers as well as spreading a highly detailed sound image to your left and right.

Behind them, large vertical flat panels act as high performance rear effect speakers, radiating the relevant parts of the signal to the back of the listening area. And all the channels can be separately adjusted from your receiver to achieve a perfectly balanced sound.

4 out of 5 eggsSweet Sweetness!

Pros: Sound quality is amazing! They're very clean and crisp, and reproduce a very broad spectrum. They're also incredibly sexy! Pictures do not do these speakers justice at all. The simulated surround sound is far better than most sounds bars I've experienced. That is, after proper setup

Cons: Minimal bass, so you'll definitely need a subwoofer. Comes with a pair of proprietary cables, and they're incredibly long. Like all simulated surround, there will be times where it sounds a little off-position.

Other Thoughts: Hooked up to a Sony STR-DH550. Auto-calibration tuned them near perfectly.

4 out of 5 eggsni looking, nice sounding, and a bit power hungary

Pros: Takes all power from a 5.1 amp
Crisp highs
Satisfying purchase after over a decade with 5.0 or 5.1 speakers.
Nice sound-bar alt.
Good speakers (individually)
Lots of speakers (included)
Only 2 speakers (easy to look @)
Handles all of my amps 600 watts with ease

Cons: Wiring harness is car amp deckesque (perhaps too generous)
Cords are an overcomplicated solution (although encompassing)
Calibration is a bit of a guessing game

Other Thoughts: Got in the early afternoon and was not finish with wiring harness (soldering) until mid evening. This was taking at a brisk pace as i custom setup a work desk using a box with holes for lining up all of the harnesses 10 wires. I mixed up the rear surround wires so had 2 switch those @ the amp.

4 out of 5 eggsInteresting Product

Pros: Incredibly good upper mid and treble response. If you have heard Kef Ref speakers, just remove the lower mid and all bass, and you have these pegged. When watching tv and movies, every detail is crystal clear, and the treble range has that elusive quality of speed and accuracy that can't be described.

When a speaker system has that quality from top to bottom, it may lead to eargasms. These can be very expensive and may destroy relationships with significant others, but don't fear these speakers for two good reasons -
-- the cost is very low, at least when on sale
-- the gender most likely to object to audio purchases won't be offended by these because they have no bass at all.

This is slightly off-subject, but the single greatest refutation of gender neutrality is a big subwoofer. Just fire up that deep loud bass, and the XXs will scamper like rats from a drowning ship, and the XYs will come from miles around. It is for this reason that this product is a very safe purchase for the domesticated man.

Cons: No bass at all.

Surround sound is a compromise, not sure it helps to have the planar transducers right behind the point source. When in 3-speaker stereo, my ears liked it much better.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to add a sub to this setup, don't go for cheap and flabby 12"+ subs; they won't add anything of value to the sound and you will still have a gap between 80hz and 220hz. Find a very fast sealed-box 10" or smaller sub. Ess Vee Ess may be able to help you.

4 out of 5 eggswonderful Sound

Pros: Excellent sound with a unique dispersion for such a medium priced unit. Sound smooth and exciting in several locations even in a small room.
Super easy connections, no tools needed
at various sound levels, no weary ears.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Confusing designation makes one wonder what was their primary design purpose
