3 out of 5 eggsGood but flawed

Pros: I've had this system for more than five years. Overall, I'm happy with the system. When it works, the system is great. I have it connected to my computer and use VWS software. This combination has worked well for me. The solar sensor/transmitters have worked very well for me.

Cons: The instructions are extremely poor! Radio Shack sold this system under their own brand and their instruction book is miles better than the O.S. book. I recommend new owners find and download the R.S. book before they try to set up the weather station.
The Rain Gauge has proven to be very unreliable. I'm just now replacing the gauge for the second time. I'm guessing the problem is that the sensor board is not well protected from moisture.
The odd shape of the control console somewhat limits mounting options.

Other Thoughts: This is a good basic system. The wireless transmitters make installation relatively easy. Locating and downloading the Radio Shack version of the instructions will make installation and operation much easier!

2 out of 5 eggsRobustness issues

Pros: The unit's high points are the serial output and attractive monitoring panel. The sensors are somewhat easy to install.

Cons: The outdoor components are not very robust. Florida is not a friendly place for outdoor electronics and our blaring heat and driving rain was enough to eventually cloud over and fail the solar collectors. The nicads also leaked and eventually both the outdoor thermo/hygrometer and wind direction and speed indicator transducers failed.

The anemometer and wind direction indicator update on a roughly 5 second basis and miss gusts and erratic shifts in direction.

Other Thoughts: If the update rates regarding wind monitoring are not deal killer this this instrument collection make an economical and useful weather provided the user supply more robust enclosures for the transducers

2 out of 5 eggswmr968 wireless wx station

Pros: provides a good display of wx data. Relatively easy to set up but the instructions do not address all the features as well as could be.

Cons: Customer support from Oregon Scientific is almost worthless. An email to them takes a long time for a response and is not very helpful. Calling there customer support number falls into same category. If they return the call, it takes several days. Customer service is almost non existant. With my unit is service less than one month, the wind sensor appears to have quit transmitting accurate data. Accomplished all the trouble shooting tips that one can gleem from instructions.
The one response to an email from Oregon Scientific was to contact the seller (newegg) for a return. Without original packaging, I fear this will be a problem. In order to return, 4 remote sensors and there powersupply/transmitter need to be taken down from their installation position just to package up.

Other Thoughts: Oregon Scientific sells products, offers little support except to deal with seller. There 1 year warranty makes little practical sense.

4 out of 5 eggsReal Great for the Price!

Pros: I checked this out for about a week before I bought it. Later I read a review concerning a retired weather man who researched it for about 2 weeks.Needless to say he really liked it. I find that it works well and pretty accurate.

Cons: I had trouble with the outside dew measurement showing up on my main unit. However, since I connected it to my pc, It shows up all the time even though it may not be on my main unit. The main unit displays it when the weather is somewhat warmer.

Other Thoughts: Remember when you purchase this that the batteries are enclosed in each solar panel and the main unit. You will have to take the back off each (except the main unit)to connect to each sensors.

4 out of 5 eggsworks just fine

Pros: Have had first one for 2 years, worked just fine. alkaline batteries spewed junk inside temp sensor -- killed it. Bought this second one just for the sensor. But now have two consoles--one at each end of the house. Nice and convenient. I use FreeWX software--is okay, seems to overwhelm older computer, but does allow posting via ftp. system accuracy seems just fine. Solar charging is a big plus. nice to have separate units so can place wind high on tv pole and temp sensor nearer the ground where I live!

Cons: cheap now ($200). I paid over $350 for first unit. Is made cheaply but seems to work just fine here in hot but not frigid south Texas.
