Pros: None.

Cons: Purchased my first one a little before Christmas, the front left channel began intermittently cutting out within a month of purchasing it. I ended up returning it for a replacement. The replacement started having similar issues with the rear speakers. I bought it during a special (at a cost higher than its regular price now), but it came with a replacement only warranty for the first month. I've since replaced it with a Pioneer VSX-821 that's been working perfectly.

Pros: Cost, One of the cheaper receivers out there, but the quality is good. Low distortion compared to others in its price range.

Cons: I didn't realize that although this receiver has HDMI inputs and outputs, the audio over HDMI cannot be read by this receiver, you need a separate cable for audio.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good receiver, with a few caveats

Pros: Price + HD Radio. Great neutral sound. Allows you to cut-off (i.e., bypass) the tone controls and I have. Not needed with the little B&W speakers in my bedroom.

Cons: No electrical outlet on the back - merely annoying. The included remote is not a universal remote, meaning you need to have two remotes (a 2nd one for a CD/DVD player, for example) or you have to get a universal remote that works with this unit. Haven't done that yet. I'd also complain about the remote being cluttered, but name one that isn't these days? But you can start it up by hitting "tuner" button or "CD" for example and it goes right there, so after setup, you're good to go.

Other Thoughts: This replaced 30 year old (!) New Acoustic Dimension (the acronym of the brand is disallowed by Newegg) preamp/amp separates, which still work fine, but took up space, had no remote control ability, and needed a separate HD Radio tuner to boot. HD is a must for me -- in Houston, we have a lot of stations here.

I was worried that I couldn't live with anything but more (expensive) of my old brand of equipment, but I was wrong, at least after a month of use. Will it last 30 years, too? Don't know and don't care, given the price.

NOTE: I've only used this as a stereo receiver, although it has two HDMI inputs and one output, and is 5.1 capable. I got it as the cheapest receiver with an HD Radio, and am quite happy with it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Superb sound quality, great versatility, HD reception is solid and stable in my deep-fringe area

Cons: Cluttered remote with too many similar sized/shaped buttons. I'm a geek, and I couldn't hook the thing up without reading the manual...confusing back-panel layout!

Other Thoughts: This replaces an aging Pioneer with failing microprocessor which suddenly goes haywire. I've been looking for a receiver for some time, and wanted HD radio, but in an inexpensive package. This one filled the bill. Don't worry about the 40hz-20khz frequency response spec. That's a power bandwidth spec, not an indication of the unit's frequency response. The bottom octave (20-40hz) is there in full measure.

I'm using the unit in stereo, as music listening is what's most important to me. It's driving a pair of Energy C3 speakers that cost more than twice as much as the receiver...and doing a wonderful job. The headphone section is great too, with no trouble driving difficult loads like my Sennheiser HD580, and Beyerdynamic DT990 pro. With an easier load like the Bose on-ear 'phones, it's just coasting. Wonderful product at an amazing price!
