4 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: great picture, great features, very attractive gloss finish with blue ring on the front, easy to use and navigate through menus. directv also sends automatic updates once in a while and add new features.

Cons: it is very slow when using the RF mode on the remote, but it can be fixed by changing the mode to IR

Other Thoughts: If you use IR mode on the remote control, the response speed is greatly increased. This is what i use, because i really have no reason to use the RF

4 out of 5 eggsDefinately Not A TiVo!!!

Pros: Accepts HD signals very well , looks good , nice menus , good for technical guru's .

Cons: If you don't already have HD set up in your house , installation can be somewhat bothersome especially if you want to buy your own equipment and install yourself . Definitely not a TiVo Box . Cannot change between receivers 1 & 2 like a tivo can . I haven't seen the slow remote speeds others have claimed to have but I am comparing to speeds of an R-10 samsung box . Light on front is too bright and 30 second skip is rough without the hacks .

Other Thoughts: Choose Satellite Dish wisely . The one I chose is non-refundable due to Neweggs limited warranty , so had to eat the dish . Also To install this yourself you will need to purchase the following if you don't already have one . http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882250002&Tpk=zinwell Had to call directv to get a technician out due to all of this . Do you research . Do a google search for HR22 dim light and 30skip to fix those issues easily because you will not find them in the manual .

4 out of 5 eggsHR22

Pros: Great picture. RF remote. Large hard drive. Quieter than HR20 in standby. Important as it is in the bedroom.

Cons: Much slower response than HR20.
Find myself pushing the button again it is that slow.
Once you get used to it is not that big a deal.

Other Thoughts: Best DVR I have had so far.

4 out of 5 eggsSave a little money

Pros: I found that it had a picture as clear as my nonDVR HD receiver. Easy to hook up. Easy to use the record and play features. Love catching all my favorite programs in HD and playing them when I want to see them. It also records a series. Gotta love that.

Cons: I found two things I didn't know. It has two tuners. That means you need two cables coming from your outside dish. On my non-DVR HD receivers I only needed one cable. You will get a 771 error if you don't have the other cable connected and working. Directv will charge you for another cable. The reason for two tuners and two cables is so that you can record on one station and watch another. You can change from dual to single on setup-satillite and not get a 771 error.
The other problem I found is I don't get local channels in HD and they don't have plans to offer HD local in the near future so I use an off-air antenna. Well guess what, this HD DVR receiver doesn't have a connetion on the box for an off-air digital HD antenna. Now I have to find out what else I have to buy if I want local HD.

Other Thoughts: Good box and love the DVR, wish I had known about the antenna attachment plug is not available on the back of this box and the two
tunners means two cables from the dish! MORE $$$

4 out of 5 eggsMostly very good

Pros: HD is outstanding from Directv. Hooked up to a 42" Philips LCD 1080p TV. Standard definition looks good too. Menu interface is excellent. Very easy to set up recordings. Haven't tried the remote programming thru phone or web yet.

Cons: Remote is very unresponsive. Sometimes I have to hit the buttons two or three times to get to respond and then it remembers the previous commands. Very frustrating. I did not have this problem when using same receiver with my SD TV before we got the Philips LCD. It seems the processor is working so hard to keep up with the HD, it lags in other areas like remote commands, etc. I hope Directv improves the electronics in the future.

Other Thoughts: Very happy with Directv service. Picture is awesome with HD. This receiver has some issues but overall a good choice. In fact, possibly your only choice of hardware with Directv HD DVR.
