3 out of 5 eggsAmorphous is very old tech

Pros: Generates solar power.

Cons: Amorphous cells have generally half the power density of Mono or polycryastaline cells.

Amorphous cells, unless very new tech ones, then lose half their generating power in 4-5 years

Mono and Polycrystalline cells have dropped sharply in cost in the past year or so - so there is absolutely no reason to buy amorphous cell based panels

Price is far out of line for any tech.

5 out of 5 eggscloudy day power

Pros: Amorphous is the way to go here in Indiana...
On a cloudy day it still puts out power... or if a leaf is on
it you still get power... just a shadow will shut down a
poly or mono panel!!! I put a amorphous panel on my old
rv to charge the batteries and it worked great... It would
put out juice from dawn till dusk. My new rv has a mono panel and it only works for 2 hours when it is in full sun and not a cloudy day... As for the cost... The new coal gasification plant going in at Edwardsport IN will cost 13 or more... It is currently at 2.8 Billion to build and rising...

Cons: Does not put out as much power in full sun but way more over time in most locations were there are cloudy days...

Other Thoughts: With many nuke plants to be closed due to age the cost
of power will continue to rise...

5 out of 5 eggsYes...

Pros: Um.. It is Tempered glass.... look in the details... wow, most everyone here has the wrong idea about solar energy. You are not trying to get a device that will pay for itself over time. Do you buy gadgets at new egg that pay for themselves? If you do I want to see your very short list, haha. It is all about saving the environment and caring about the planet we live on for our future generations. Less fossil fuel, less greenhouse gasses, less Human fingerprint on the planet altogether. If you are out to get something for free then you miss the point of going solar. And think about it, it is free energy people. you are not buying this energy from a greedy corporation, the sun is giving it to you freely just like it has been giving the whole planet life since life began here. You are buying a converter to change that form of energy into something more useful to you (IE, electricity). Any kind of energy conversion is expensive, no matter how you look at it.

Cons: It is true that some solar panels are not very efficient. But that is because of our limitation of the technology and knowledge of solar energy itself. In my opinion we are behind because of the lack of funding for this research and development because no one on the earth seems to realize or care how important it is that we stop draining all the non-renewable resources we have until there is nothing left. Everyone can do their part, if you even buy a single solar powered cell phone charger (here on new egg for $20) then you are helping the planet. every bit helps. And you can be sure that when I can save up around $300 one of these is going on my roof.

2 out of 5 eggsOh cool... oh wait.

Pros: Yes! Newegg is selling solar power systems and components!!!
This one has

Cons: - $6/Watt? Really? It doesn't get much more expensive than this. Average is about $4/W in the U.S. and now we're starting to see panels at $1/W, but I don't know much about them.
- Only a 5 Year Warranty? You can get 25 yr. warranties on plenty of solar panels now.

Other Thoughts: - It's great to see, but given the limited scope of what is currently offered, at this price, with little to no specifications listed, I would never buy this item.
- It says it's weatherproofed. That should be a given. Does it have tempered glass? At this price, I would hope so, but no indication is given.
