Polk's Monitor Series has been the gold standard of speakers since the 1970's. This current generation features clear, accurate sound with strong bass and exceptional aural imaging. Polk made the enclosures out of MDF to be of a uniform density and not resonate. They've also included ¾" thick baffles to help produce clear lifelike sound.

The 5.25" cone is made from a bi-laminate composite for an optimal balance of weight and rigidity. The small driver delivers a wide open sound and exceptional responsiveness. The 1" tweeter is a fabric/polymer composite the responds swiftly to the high efficiency Neodymium magnet. The crossovers between the drivers use Mylar bypass capacitors to let all of the details in the higher frequencies shine through.

No matter how good they sound, they have to look good too. Their contemporary look complements today's flat panel televisions and modern decorating styles.

  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio Monitor 30 boasts a 5.25" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers and a 1" dynamic balance silk/polymer composite dome tweeter to deliver crisp highs and accurate lows for an immersive listening experience.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio Monitor 30 can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.

4 out of 5 eggsQuite happy

Pros: Attractive, great wall mounts, low price, good sound.

Cons: none noticed

Other Thoughts: I just use these as my surrounds for 5.1 movies. They are matched with much higher end gear. I don't listen to surround music so I only notice the surrounds when they sound out of place with the rest of the system. These have the same sensitivity as my other speakers and they sound clean and crisp. I haven't done any critical listening with them.

The imitation cherry finish looks good, and passes for wood if not inspected, particularly if there isn't any real cherry in the room.

The sturdy wall mounts and heavy rubber bumpers inspire incredible confidence. You know that they're firmly in place, and won't vibrate against the wall when the LFE grumbles.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Amazing

Pros: For small speakers, they can really fill up a room. Great for main speakers in a small/medium size room, and great for surround speakers. For their size they put out a surprising amount of bass, crisp highs, and full sound.

You can't find a better speaker for the money. I got them on sale and would have paid full retail. If you are on the fence about getting these, don't be. Get them! You won't be disappointed! Matched with a sub-woofer or standing alone, they will make a great addition to, or help you build your home theater.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have listened to many speakers, and these are awesome!
I look forward to building a home theater around these speakers!

5 out of 5 eggsGood Speaker - Great Value

Pros: I picked up a pair of these on sale a couple of months ago for $89 shipped. At that price, they are a great value. As others have stated, they are a clean sounding speaker with good mids and highs. They sound better than the BIC bookshelves I had that I found somewhat fatiguing after a while. They do benefit from a break-in period so if you are a little disappointed at first, give them a few weeks. Mine are wall mounted which allowed me to get rid of my speaker stands. My house is fairly small and these fit my needs nicely.

Cons: None at the price I paid. As mentioned, they sound better after a break-in period.

Other Thoughts: I've owned a lot of audio equipment over the years. There are certainly better speakers than the Monitor 30's out there but at this price, they are tough to beat. I ordered a Yamaha subwoofer instead of the Polk because it will fit on the bottom shelf of my TV stand. It will be here tomorrow and I am anxious to see how they work together.

5 out of 5 eggsGood sound, as expected

Pros: Bought these for rear surround but they're good enough to be mains in a small-medium system.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: My HT slowly went all Polk and the difference is amazing when all the speakers' timbre match!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Great size for our plant shelves where we put these. Nice, quality looking speaker enclosure. Dual bindings for bi-wiring or bi-amping. Clean, crisp highs and sufficient bass for bookshelf speaker. Great price for a quality speaker. Really brought out the ability to understand what people are saying in movies and the ability to discern the different instruments in music.

Cons: None that I know of.

Other Thoughts: Bought 4 of these, a CS1 center and 2 Monitor 50's for the front. Newegg rocks for price, selection, delivery and customer service.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value for the dollar

Pros: Quite good sound for something in this price range. I've compared them with some EPOS ELS3 bookshelf speakers that cost about 3 times what I paid for these Polk items; the EPOS speakers were, as you might expect, somewhat superior, but certainly not 3 times as good!

Cons: None are apparent at present.

Other Thoughts: I admit I'm pretty picky when it comes to audio components. I was tired of cr*ppy computer speakers, so I ran the output of my computer's sound card to an old stereo receiver to drive these. I'm impressed. For around $100, you get some pretty good sound; nicely balanced, bass is crisp without boominess. My applications are not that extreme: I'm using these as computer speakers instead of the lousy cheapos that come with my monitor (the Hanns-G 28" one). I also have a Sony Blu-Ray player hooked up to the monitor. So I can watch movies on my monitor, listen to CD's either through the computer or through the Blu-Ray player, or listen to anything on my computer through these speakers. I have the stereo receiver right on my desk, so it's easy to adjust the volume--just turn a knob instead of using your mouse to change something. These speakers are a bargain for around $100; they'd be just an okay deal at full retail.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat sound

Pros: For a bookshelf speaker, a high quality sound with sufficient bass for small rooms/offices. Polk Audio quality. Best sounding bookshelf I've owned.

Cons: Maybe a little larger than some, but not a real big deal. They will easily sit on a shelf, entertainment center...

Other Thoughts: Liked my first pair so much I have ordered two more pairs. Can't find a better sounding speaker at Newegg's fantastic $89 price.

5 out of 5 eggsSound Great

Pros: Price, Quality (surprisingly heavy , Great clean Polk Sound.

Cons: none. 100Watts? But really,....that is plenty for me.

Other Thoughts: For the price, they are awesome. I was trying to bum off some Klipsch bookshelf speakers from my dad but he is using them as Surrounds. I have these as my Main Fronts, and they REALLY good compared to the speakers that came with my Yamaha HTIB. If you have an Average HT these are great speakers. However I wouldn't recommend them for a THX setup like my dads.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat speakers for the price

Pros: I have enjoyed other Polk R15s as bookshelf speakers (they're now my rear surrounds). I really enjoyed those and the Monitor 30s are just as good (if not better). For a speaker with these dimensions, they produce great sound. Highs and mids are clearly defined w/o the brightness of a horn based speaker (I have a pair of Klipsch 4.5s, and the M 30s sound softer). Again, not a lot of low end, but pretty decent considering the box dimensions and the price. They really need to be set up w/ a sub. Would be great as surrounds.

Cons: Not a lot of low end (as above), but that's expected due to size and driver constraints.

Other Thoughts: Great build quality. Depending on the type of music one listens to, these may be great. Jazz, classical and light background music would fit these well. R&B, hip-hop, etc....get a sub.
