4 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

This review is from: Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10 Black 10-inch Powered Subwoofer Single

Pros: Flexible configuration--can either feed it a line in from your receiver, or tap your speakers directly. Phase switch to simply resolution of phase problems. Auto power-off function that detects when receiver has been powered off and powers off the sub as well.

Cons: Setting the crossover frequency is a bit tricky. There's a fine line between "where's the bass?" and "WHOOOMPH!" At higher output levels, tends to sound a little muddy.

Other Thoughts: Bought to replace an old passive Kenwood sub on a dying Kenwood receiver. Originally drove this off the front speakers (make sure to set your receiver to "large speakers" for the front speakers, else the receiver's internal crossover will remove most of the bass) of my old Kenwood receiver. When I replaced the Kenwood with a Yamaha unit that provides a line-level subwoofer out, I reconfigured to use the line input. Both configurations were satisfying and had a similar feel for the bass.

5 out of 5 eggsRefine Your Sound

This review is from: Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10 Black 10-inch Powered Subwoofer Single

Pros: Polk Quality and plenty of power for household use. Auto-On so no need to turn it on/off separately. Couldn't beat the $99 price!

Cons: No separate LFE input channel like other models, but works fine with input into right channel RCA. Enclosure is heavy and rather large. I use a Polk 100W sub for my home theater system and it's actually smaller.

Other Thoughts: I'm using this sub to compliment two outdoor Polk Atrium speakers on my covered deck. Wow, what a difference. It comes inside when not in use so the weight is a small con.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Bass for the BUCK

This review is from: Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10 Black 10-inch Powered Subwoofer Single

Pros: I bought this in conjunction with another purchase in 2009. I ended up purchasing it for around 50 dollars. I would pay full price for it again if something happened to it. The PSW10 has lasted over 4 years and still performs like it did new.

Cons: The front comes off easily and is a bit brittle with toddlers. My fault, not POLK's. I just wish I could find a cover replacement.

Other Thoughts: If you buy this for an average home theater (800 square ft living room) you will be very pleased with this. POLK really delivered on this model. That is why this model has been unchanged for so many years.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat subwoofer!

This review is from: Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10 Black 10-inch Powered Subwoofer Single

Pros: Insane bass!
Easy to setup.
Can pair with any speakers with multiple combinations.
Amazing gaming experience.
Movies make me feel like I am right there.

Cons: Power hog. 100w max and 26 minimum (estimated on site), this thing will quickly pump up your electric bill with any speaker combination set.

Other Thoughts: Paired this with a set of Bose Media Mate speakers that have been lying around since 04. I use a composite to 3.5mm cable going into the sub channel on my soundcard and then have the speakers going into the standard channel. The sound card does all the rest. It appears that you could convert a speaker set to plug into the woofer, but since I already had these cables, i took this route. My sound blaster card enables this woofer no matter what I have on. My Realtek only sees it with games and movies that have a 5.1 channel setup (no matter what settings I make in control panel or the Realtek audio program).
10" makes the placement tough for this, and placement must be strategic because the sound is so strong, the neighbors and housemates will surely hear it.
For the amount of power it requires, it is still insanely great for gaming and Movie nights. I just make sure to unplug it when not necessary.
Got it on sale during Christmas and do not regret it; however, after seeing my first electric bill, I am thinking that I should have just got a 65w 2.1 set for cheaper and let the Bose speakers collect dust again. If you have the budget, this thing cannot be beat, and even if you don't have the budget it is nice for a weekly gaming session or movie night. Just don't leave the thing on during web surfing or you'll be sorry.
This is more of a seller thing, but this was not double boxed and came with the picture on the side of it. Word from the wise, do not have it shipped to a home where it will sit on the front porch for hours.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat sounding speaker once you fix the port chuffing

This review is from: Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10 Black 10-inch Powered Subwoofer Single

Pros: Great price for a 10 inch sub

Cons: Port chuffing. but it can be fixed

Other Thoughts: For some reason polk added a grill to the end of the port which cause the horrific port chuffing. Remove the amp and it is held in by 2 screws and some glue but can be removed easily by hand. Once removed you can really push the sub with out the chuffing occurring.

5 out of 5 eggsNice for $99

This review is from: Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10 Black 10-inch Powered Subwoofer Single

Pros: Within about 5 minutes of turning this thing on for the first time at a pretty low level, the wife was complaining.

Very powerful, a bit more powerful than I was expecting, actually. I paid $99 for this, definitely worth it. Some of the comments were saying that this was fairly low powered, or that it couldn't fill a living room.

WHAT? Maybe if you're feeding in a garbage signal or something, but this thing can fill a large living room without a problem. Some people insist on literally only hearing the bass when playing music. If that's your goal, this *might* not be powerful enough for you, but, otherwise, this is great.

This thing shakes all the walls in my house. I see people were complaining about rattle. The only rattle I get is from the walls, desks, pictures, and just about everything else. If you think this subwoofer has rattle, you're probably just rattling other things.

Cons: It comes with a cover over the speaker part and looks very nice. After pulling it off twice, one of the tabs broke in the hole. This was a pain, but nothing some pliers and super-glue wouldn't fix.

Other Thoughts: I am using this for my office room, which is about 10" x 15", though it can be heard everywhere in the house, and even if you go outside.

I use for music and for games. Definitely enhances the experience for Battlefield or Elite Dangerous.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

This review is from: Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10 Black 10-inch Powered Subwoofer Single

Pros: Very cheap price for Polk sound quality. Faithfully reproduces the lowest lows clean and tight. Good connectivity, line level and speaker level inputs.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've owned it almost 2 years now and have had no issues with it. I have a pair of Polk Atrium 45's on my back patio that are about 6 years old and they a bit lacking on the bass end so I added this sub. What a difference it makes. Wonderfully clean sound at moderate listening levels. It's rated 50 watts rms with 100 watt peak so it's not going to blow your windows out or shake the house off it's foundation. For that I'd recommend the Polk PSW505. This PSW10 has not dissapointed for what I needed. Just be sure to feed it a good clean signal from a quality amp. It's going to reproduce what it it is fed, garbage in, garbage out.
