Polk's PSW10 powered subwoofer is designed to match with their Monitor Series speakers. The compact enclosure is made from non-resonant MDF with 0.75" internal baffling and bracing for rock solid performance with superlative detail and accuracy.

The voice coil of the 10" driver is perfectly centered in its magnetic field for deep bass with no distortion. The built in amplifier has a 50W continuous output with 100W of peak power. An overall 35Hz to 200Hz frequency response is attenuated by an adjustable 80Hz to 160Hz crossover so you can tune the output to match the rest of your speakers.

There is also a phase switch for additional fine tuning of the sound. The "auto" selection on the power switch lets the subwoofer turn itself off after 15 minutes of no signal and turn itself back an almost instantaneously, leaving you free to enjoy the music and not worry about turning things on and off.

I ordered the PSW 10 on Saturday and had it hooked up on Tuesday. When I look at the retail price of $249.99 and what I paid $85 w/tax I have to pinch myself. It arrived undamaged and, geek that I am, it had that brand new audio smell ;) Cons: None so far. Other Thoughts: I have this matched with Monitor 60 Series II for mains, a RM7 Center, and 4 RM 7 Satellite B's in the rear all powered by an Onkyo TX-SR706. The room 10'x20' is carpeted and has a couch and easy chair. The speakers are on the short sides of the room's Knotty Pine paneled walls. I have two Auralex bass traps and 4 Auralex 1'x1'x1' panels to help with reflective and low frequencies. I followed the advice of other purchasers in turning the volume to less than half, crossover to 250, and using the receiver's controls to tweak. I rang the room with Peter Gabriel's New Blood Blu Ray for the strings, brass, and vocals. Bela Fleck Live at the Quick DVD for drums and bass, various streaming radio genres (Blues, Jazz, Blue Grass etc) for everything else. They all sounded amazing at both low volume (20-25 on the Onkyo) and higher volumes (45-50). As with all my audio purchases I had to justify this with my wife who's first question was, "Why do we need this when the one we have (the sub that came with the HTB) works?" I sat her in the sweet spot and played several different pieces of media at low volume. She remarked that dialog/definition was much cleaner now. I then asked her to go into the other rooms to see if it could be heard or would be disturbing. She returned asking if I had turned it down? I was vindicated!
