Polk's PSW10 powered subwoofer is designed to match with their Monitor Series speakers. The compact enclosure is made from non-resonant MDF with 0.75" internal baffling and bracing for rock solid performance with superlative detail and accuracy.

The voice coil of the 10" driver is perfectly centered in its magnetic field for deep bass with no distortion. The built in amplifier has a 50W continuous output with 100W of peak power. An overall 35Hz to 200Hz frequency response is attenuated by an adjustable 80Hz to 160Hz crossover so you can tune the output to match the rest of your speakers.

There is also a phase switch for additional fine tuning of the sound. The "auto" selection on the power switch lets the subwoofer turn itself off after 15 minutes of no signal and turn itself back an almost instantaneously, leaving you free to enjoy the music and not worry about turning things on and off.

  • newegg Impressive Bass The Polk Audio PSW10 boasts a 10" Dynamic Balance composite woofer driver and anti-resonant MDF construction to deliver deep, accurate and tight bass, making your movies and music more realistic.
  • newegg High-powered Amplifier The Polk Audio PSW10 is equipped with a built-in high-current amplifier to bring out the best from any high quality sound system.
  • newegg Take Control The Polk Audio PSW10 features a variable Low-Pass crossover, phase switch and subwoofer volume control for the ultimate ease of control and flexible configuration of your speaker system.

5 out of 5 eggsVersatile and accurate

Pros: This powered sub is a great value. I never would have expected to get something this musical for around $100. I've been moving it between rooms to determine which setting I want to keep it on and I might just have to buy another.
In my office it is connected from laptop to external DAC using a simple stereo amp and the speaker-level connections. Once I got it tuned using the volume and crossover pots it is transparently imaging with my Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo One (low bass when sealed) speakers.

In my basement living room I have a 5.1 channel receiver with a fixed 120hz crossover feeding the RCA inputs. My front speakers are 8" sealed Bostons (adequate bass) so I still use the PSW10's Low Frequency filter to prevent too much overlap. It adds depth to music (incl. movies w/ music) at every listening position and is very transparent.

In both settings I am so pleased by the quality of bass that I might get a 2nd PSW10 instead of choosing between the two locations.

Cons: It does seem a bit large compared to some subs with similar frequency response characteristics but smaller designs cost more than this unit - space was not an important factor in my decision but it's worth noting.

The low-pass adjustment ranges from 160hz to 80hz. I would like to be able to set it lower than 80hz for experimenting with the home theater - this functionality is included with most decent digital A/V receivers so it is only a limitation when using the speaker level inputs.

Other Thoughts: Seems to go on sale fairly often - worth the $ even off sale.

Don't be fooled by the 100W amp spec.

Great way to experience good bass extension or enhance a pair of bookshelf speakers without making a huge investment. Take time to adjust the cut-off (if applicable) and volume as well as placement for maximum enjoyment. At this price, you can buy a 2nd for your home theater or one for each speaker in a bookshelf setup: there are benefits to having two separate low-bass sources. Lots of information on placement strategies available on the web.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat subwoofer for the price.

Pros: I am by no means an audiophile, but I have the PSW10 paired with a CS1 Series 2 center, monitor40 fronts, and some cheaper KLM satellites, and the system sounds great. I initially only had the speakers, and was running a 5.0 set-up, and thought that sounded great already.

Was able to pick this up on sale, and it adds an amazing amount of depth to the sound of the system. Overall very happy.

Cons: The sub is bigger than I thought it would be. I live in a 1,000 sq ft apartment, and the subwoofer rumbles the floor when on high volume, so I have a turn it down about half way.

Other Thoughts: Great subwoofer, and a great budget set-up with the other Polk speakers. Love how the system sounds. Paired with an Onkyo TRX digital receiver.

Pros: Incredible bass, so easy to install even a caveman can do it! hehehe. the back of the speaker was self explanatory that you just plug in the cables, raise the volume and switch the power on and you are set. Im really glad a purchased this and the price was basically a steal!

5 out of 5 eggsVery cheap for the quality

Pros: I wanted to build a low cost Home theater system. I bought the Energytake 5 speakers (which I believe is just $130 at the time I am writing this review) and combined it with this subwoofer which bought for less than $100. They work great together. I am surprised that the 10 inch sub can produce so much bass.

Cons: - I am afraid if my neighbors are going to complain
- The sub is huge

5 out of 5 eggsGreat sub

Pros: I'll admit, when I first hooked this sub up to my home theater system, I was unimpressed. But after a little tweaking, and a bit of a break in period, it sounds amazing. It's perfect for my apartment. It has deep, punchy bass, and isn't overbearing.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone when it's on sale. If you're looking to fill a huge living room or theater room, look elsewhere. If you just have a decent sized room, this is the one for you.

Cons: None, really. Once you do some fine tuning, and give it a little bit of time to break in, it rocks.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome budget sub

Pros: Great sub for the price (got it on sale here for $89 and free shipping).

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I'm using this sub in my small home studio in a 4.1 setup. Got it coupled with a high quality receiver that has flexible crossover settings for all channels. I'm running 2 pairs of front speakers handling the mids and highs and the sub for the lows.

This sub packs a punch for $89.

5 out of 5 eggsGood subwoofer for small room

Pros: Sounded awesome in a 2.1 setup in my small dining room for music. For the price it can't be beat.

Cons: When we moved it to our 20x18x8 living room, it just couldn't do the trick. If you have a big room, you may be dissapointed. I'm still giving this 5 eggs, because when used in the correct setting, it sounds good for the money.

Other Thoughts: I ended up buying an amp, and using a couple 12" car subs that have been in the basement, HUGE difference. I'm going to go diy now and build my own box for a 15" dayton HF series subwoofer, based on the sound that I got from a couple of cr*ppy old drivers I had in the basement for years. If you have a table saw I would recomend googling diy subwoofer for the absolute most bang for you buck.

5 out of 5 eggsGood SUB!

Pros: I only paid $89 + Tax for this Sub! Pretty awesome for my setup! Good and Clear sound!

Cons: I don't think this is a CON but this thing is HUGE! It's like a small desk for kid..

Other Thoughts: You are not going to expect this perform same as your $500 SUB. For under $100 bucks, this SUB is awesome! This SUB goes on sale from time to time.. I got it at $89..

5 out of 5 eggsGood basic subwoofer

Pros: Cheap, provides clean/clear bass, good build quality, 5 year warranty (3 years on the amp), sounds about the same as a significantly more expensive JBL subwoofer that I'm replacing because its amp died

Cons: Probably not a good choice for large rooms. While it provides clean bass, this is not an especially powerful subwoofer. It's only 10" and 50W RMS. Audiophiles wanting the latest and greatest should look elsewhere. This is just a basic unit.

Other Thoughts: DO NOT use an RCA Y-adapter as some have suggested. In my experience, all this did was make the subwoofer sound muddy and distorted. Just plug a single RCA cable into either the red or white RCA jack on the back of the subwoofer. I suspect the handful or poor reviews complaining about sound quality are from people who made the mistake of using a Y-adapter.

1 out of 5 eggsIt makes me feel nauseous

Pros: I didn't pay full price

Cons: What a huge disappointment with all the glowing reviews. This sub is just awful. Its a muffled mess, and has no clarity. Yes a sub should have some clarity, but this has none. Listening to it makes me want to vomit.

Other Thoughts: I tried to pair it with 3 different sets of book self speakers, and used 3 different amps. I messed with the settings for hours, and tried different placements. Finally I tried my Sony SA-W3000 that I had in the living room. The Sony had way more clarity. The Polk sounded like it was behind a wall or in another room. Will not pair with anything. You know people knock Sony speakers, but they make a better low end sub than Polk. Well my Sony is a 12" and the Polk is a 10", so its not exactly a fair comparison, but still its just an awful sub, and the only reason I think that it has such amazing reviews is because of name recognition alone.
