Polk's PSW10 powered subwoofer is designed to match with their Monitor Series speakers. The compact enclosure is made from non-resonant MDF with 0.75" internal baffling and bracing for rock solid performance with superlative detail and accuracy.
The voice coil of the 10" driver is perfectly centered in its magnetic field for deep bass with no distortion. The built in amplifier has a 50W continuous output with 100W of peak power. An overall 35Hz to 200Hz frequency response is attenuated by an adjustable 80Hz to 160Hz crossover so you can tune the output to match the rest of your speakers.
The back panel has both line level and speaker level inputs so you can use the PSW10 with virtually any amplifier. There is also a phase switch for additional fine tuning of the sound. The "auto" selection on the power switch lets the subwoofer turn itself off after 15 minutes of no signal and turn itself back an almost instantaneously, leaving you free to enjoy the music and not worry about turning things on and off.
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: For a relatively scant 50 watts this thing proves power isn't everything. It may not set off the car alarms, but it certainly add the kind of bass that really enhances surround sound without being too in-your-face. Great sound quality that blends well with Polk speakers' Dynamic Balance.
Cons: I've never really seen what it can do, but it did seem fall behind from my system when I pushed everything a little overboard. This is where the Wattage might become a problem. I have a well focused (100 hz roughly and higher) 85 Watts X 5. You'd probably need more power from a sub if you were pushing 120 watts per channel.
Other Thoughts: At $150 bucks you won't be disappointed. Polk really doesn't make a lousy product even at these prices.

Pros: this sub sounds considerably better than I expected. Clean and tight. The auto setup on my Pioneer said my subwoofer was too loud - Is that even possible lol.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Can't be beat for the Newegg price.

Pros: . Excellent low frequencies reproductions. . Tight punches, even at low volume . Size is just about right for small to mid size rooms . Auto on/off standby mode with quick "awakening" when is senses signals from the A/V receiver. . Beuatiful colors: black and cherry. nice with and without grill. . Compared to my polk 505, it does a good job, still. sturdy on wood floor. Does not "walk".
Cons: May get boomy on occasions, depending on the accoustic nature of your room. For the price, it 's a great sub.
Other Thoughts: I have 2 pairs of this little guys, hooked in pairs in 2 different rooms, via a y splitter to my pre amp out from the receivers.
They fill the room with low rich bass, even at low volumes. I found that connecting them via a y splitter to the red and white rca on the back does yield a better sound, when the cross over of the sub is tuned all the way up. ( Unfiltred by sub. but if your receiver can set the cross over, then turn the sub crossover to the highest).
Comapred to the polk 505, they hold their ground, but the 12 " sub delivers a tighter and louder punch. Price and shipping on new egg is great. can not beat it anywere else, trust me i have looked. Get them while on clearance making room for the newer ones, which by the way are very similar (trust me i have heard both).

Decent Sub at Lower Levels

Pros: Deep rich bass. This is used with a 7 speaker setup and an Onkyo reciever. When at 50% (see below) movies sound great and explosions really stand out. Music also sounds decent. Pretty good price.
Cons: When played at higher levels (not even close to maxxed), with music and movies/TV, the sub makes a loud rattling sound. I've tested this with the speaker cover on and off, same thing. I have to play the sub at 50% volume to not hear the rattling. Also with music the bass sounds a little "hollow".
Other Thoughts: Pretty disappointed that I cannot use the sub to its full potential.

Pros: It is a very good woofer at the current price. Sounds great with movies, some music, gaming. You can really FEEL the bass.
Cons: Does have trouble with some of my music selection. The range does not go very low. This was my first subwoofer purchase, so I was not too familiar with what I should go with. Now I know to play the music I enjoy and not having to hear the awful sound when the woofer can't match the frequency I need to go for the YAMAHA (gets as low as 20Hz)
Other Thoughts: The product itself is great at what it is designed for. I guess I just gave it a bad rating because I was disappointed I could not play all my music on this. If you are not an audiophile like myself, there is great value in this product (Especially at its current price on 11/25/09!)
