3 out of 5 eggsnot bad..but.....

Pros: sleek styling. price. feature set.

Cons: somewhat wimpy amplifier.

Other Thoughts: had this about a month now. things that i like,...the single speaker does a very good job with stereo sources. if you listen to 5.1 dts audio, you'll find the amplifier is much better for some reason,...plays louder than with a typical dvd. i stream audio and video from my laptop, and while the audio of cd's is quite good, the sound from streamed video is not as good. oddly, the audio from dvd video is quite good. don't expect "surround" sound from this unit, it's not going to happen. but, it does do a very good job at 3.1. at $299, it's priced about right. has enough inputs for most peoples needs. aand as another reviewer stated, with streaming video making more headway lately, the lack of a blu-ray player really isnt a big deal. for the price, it's a good way to de-clutter the living room of 5 or more speakers. lastly, i would recommend a subwoofer. the difference is substantial. kudos to newegg, as usual. fast shipping, and another great deal.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece Of Garbage

Pros: Newegg's excellent customer service.

Cons: First of all Polk Audio has the worst customer service ever!!! The remote control that is supplied with the unit will not work with any of your newer devices. Unit also makes a popping noise when switching devices. None of their remote codes would work with my Samsung LED TV or my Samsung Blu-ray player. When I called Polk the technician told me to go buy a Logitech remote if I wanted my unit to work correctly and not have a bunch of remotes sitting around. They told me that they would do nothing for me and that it is too expensive for them to make new codes for the current devices. The tech did confirm that this is their current model that they still sell it. The dvd player is mediocre at best. This is the last experience that I will ever have with Polk Audio. I would stay away from this piece of junk unit. Spend a little more and buy something of quality.

Other Thoughts: Newegg stood behind their return policy and did the right thing as always.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Nice shiny plastic looking sound bar.

Cons: Pop when turn on and off but this is only a small issues. Playing DVD and FM is okay but input thru either optical or RCA from TV does not work. Customer service from Polk Audio is horrible. Nothing but promise. Do not buy this piece, period.

2 out of 5 eggsGood speaker (array), lousy tuner/amp

Pros: Speaker is Polk, so that sounds great and quality finish. Very easy to setup. Decent feature set.

Cons: Tuner/amp made by someone else. Problems with DVD player; Also sounds drops out when switching sources and the only sure way of getting it back is to power cycle everything.

Definitely needs a subwoofer (and I'm not that fussy in the earth shaking department).

Other Thoughts: One drawback to the plug-n-go speaker connection: if the unit goes, as mine did, you will have to cut the cable and splice in some standard connectors.

4 out of 5 eggsSave space with great sound

Pros: Comes well packaged and ready to go almost instantly. Easy set up with minimal stress and trouble. I live in the city with a small amount of living space. This worked out perfectly for decent sound, brand name, and deep discount. Currently it is providing sound through various connections for my tv, gaming, and desktop.

Cons: Limited connections so make sure you know how to work with what is has. If you love HDMI this is not a system for you. I just use it to funnel my audio through but if you want video and audio capabilities. I suggest you look elsewhere.

I have had the system freeze on me once or twice but more of an annoyance when im fumbling through signal sources on the remote.

Other Thoughts: USE A SUB! I had a previous 10" Polk Audio sub to connect to this system,. The statements that a sub-woofer is unnecessary are unfounded. If you want to feel your movies like in a true surround sound setup.. a decent powered bass would be peachy.

I do not regret my purchase in the slightest.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money

Pros: The idea of one speaker that can create a surround sound stage is great. Having only one cable to connect the one speaker saves the mess of cables going all over the places.

Cons: This device doesn't have any HDMI inputs. Instead, you are limited to s-video or composite inputs.
When all cheap recievers support at least component connections, it's strange that this device doesn't support it. (it's so strange, I was really surprised and disappointed by it)

it has one HDMI output but it only supports 1080i, it also has component output. This makes the lack of inupts even stranger, it's not that they ignored the need for video switching, they just decided to be cheap on the electronics and connections.

It's also limited on audio inputs, only one coax input and 3 optical inputs.

Since this device is useless for HD, it's a waste of money and I wouldn't pay more than 100$ for it.

To make things worse, newegg is selling it for 450$ but with a no return policy

Other Thoughts: avoid this product and go for products that are meant for the HD age and support full HD, that's 1080p, and multiple HDMI inputs. even the cheap sony sound bar supports that.

5 out of 5 eggsSteep price. Good Sound

Pros: If you're looking for a sound system without the need for unsightly wires and confusing cables, this product is for you. I had a chance to hear it at a leading electronics store in a wide open space and was impressed with the quality of sound without being in a specially designed room. After doing a lot of research, I decided to buy it and consider it worth the money ($999). In no way does this replace a true 5.1 system and I'm sure that for the same price you could get a decent 5.1 audio setup. The soundbar does in fact do a good job of trying to mimic a 5.1 system. The sound does seem to wrap around you like Polk's website advertises. I've heard some people complaining about the bass, but I have a mid sized apartment and I think it's just fine for my needs. I liked the easy setup and straight forward instructions provided in the manual.

I recommend you go down to a local audio theater retailer and listen from roughly the same distance you'd have it at home.

Cons: The only things I didn't like about the unit is that it has no HDMI inputs. There should have been HDMI input ports like the Sony Soundbar HT (which sells for much less, but seems to be average quality sounding) has three so you can plug your HDMI devices in to pass through the Soundbar. The next best connection is optical (one included). Make sure you have a couple of these for your game system, cablebox, blu-ray player or you can use RCA cables. Make sure your optical cables are not coiled or bent since it will lead to lagging or distorted audio.
