Polk Audio PSW Series PSW505 12" Powered Subwoofer Each

Pros: I replaced a good working Boston Acoustics 10" sub with this to "try it out".....this thing put such a huge grin on my face that it permanently replaced the old sub. It hits so hard and deep, not the loud annoying resonating bass, but rather the kind that makes your shirt and couch shake. My friends didnt know I had replaced the sub, but ever since we all sat down to watch a movie, they havent stopped commenting on how awesome a home theater is. I'm certain this was the cherry on top.

Cons: none so far.

I read other people complaining about port noise, I'm not sure what their talking about, i did frequency bass tests from 5hz to 50hz one at a time, and only because i saw the curtains blowing in the wind did i know there was air movement in the back...

Pros: This thing is amazing. Paired with my all Polk 7.1 setup movies with any bass come to life. Delivered in perfect condition for such a heavy sub. Not a con but this thing is big so make sure you have some room.

Cons: Wasn't free.

Other Thoughts: Should of got a 7.2 reciever so i could have bought 2 of these.

Pros: good mid to mid low bass. nice if you are looking to supplement a good to average set of speakers. good connection options too.

Cons: not so good on the low low bass. If you already have very good speakers and are just looking to fill in the bottom end, this won't do it. I am not talking about dance club pounding bass, it does that okay, I am talking about the thunder in movies like twister or the synth bass in Melissa Etheredge's "Wake Me Up When It Hits 2001."

Other Thoughts: many would be happy with one, but not what I needed. I did keep it, I put it in the system in my wife's office...

Pros: More than I expected, on a good level. The volume control is very handy. Nice construction, and easy to set up. Very powerful sound, great buy. I think it has a stand by mode. Arrived next day, even with free shipping.

Cons: Bigger than I expected, but that's not a particular bad thing. Just be sure you have adequate space for a sub this size.

Other Thoughts: You will not find a better sub in this price range

Cons: Cord socket strain relief not tight. Crack on the inside of the plastic superstructure of grill.. Thin material used in grill. For someone who likes to take grills off and on could be an issue.. Maybe I'll contact Polk factory or just use a little 5 min. epoxy just to keep crack from growing.. Not really worried about it..

Other Thoughts: Had to move some things hanging on the wall pictures etc may rattle lol.. I'm like what's that noise? Darn, I just hung those up. oh well live and learn. I'd call that a plus..

Pros: nice looking sub

Pros: Great sound, good customizability, and direct in ports.

Cons: None imho.

Other Thoughts: I had a problem with the amp; after ~30 days, the unit wouldn't receive power. I called tech support, and they immediately sent a new amp for this bass (after asking if I was OK to do a little service work on my end). I was happy to do this since I didn't want to have to send this heavy unit through the post. No hassle - they just asked me for the serial number on the back of the unit. Less than a week later, the amp arrive. I unscrewed 8 screws from the case, swapped out the amp, and I'm back up and running. Sure, it was annoying to have the problem, but Polk's service was such top notch I'm keeping this review at 5 stars. I have other Polk speakers in my car and home, and I'm a VERY happy customer.

Pros: Big, deep bass and capable of very high volumes. Handles the really deep rumbles in movies and still sounds excellent with music, not muddy. Very low price.

Cons: During high volume, low frequency playback some port chugging can be heard but (in my room at least) only if you're in just the right area and typically outside the "sweet spots" which is where my furniture is anyway.

Other Thoughts: This is a great subwoofer for music and movies especially at this price point. You honestly won't find a better subwoofer within $100 of the PSW505
