Boom goes the dynamite! For audiophiles that demand maximum punch to their bass, the 460W PSW505 will shake the walls of the largest rooms. The subwoofer uses a 12-inch Long Throw Driver for longer excursion and better linearity. The unit also features huge Hi-Roll Surrounds that support that support longer excursions. Your explosions will be louder, your beats fuller and your audio life richer.
Not only is this subwoofer loud, but it’s also tight, precise and accurate so that your music doesn’t turn sloppy. The unit features rock solid MDF construction, including a one-inch thick front baffle for accurate and distortion-free sound. Customize your listening preferences by adjusting the low pass crossover, phase switch and volume control.
For your convenience, the PSW505 is magnetically shielded, making it safe for placement next to televisions or video monitors. As an added bonus, the unit turns itself on when it detects a program signal and turns itself off after 15 minutes if no signal is present. The real wood veneer finish will look great with your furniture and electronic equipment. Whether you enjoy music, movies or just want to wake up the neighbors the Polk PSW505 is the ultimate solution. Buy one today!
Pros: This 12" sub is about as small as it can get. It replaced a dual 10" cabinet that I blew the plate amp on, and it maintains an amazing level of output through most of the lower frequencies at low to medium volumes. Clarity is great for music, with very little port chuff during heavy bass. Controls are clean and intuitive, and it maintains a reasonable temperature on the back plate during periods of stress. Amp has no popping, clipping, or hum, another class act by Polk.
Cons: Pressure levels drop off around 35hz and down. Sound is still present and reasonably tight, but lacks the forcefulness of the higher frequencies. At high volumes, distortion becomes more evident as the ported box thuds its way through rhythm sections. Back of sub requires more standoff than you might expect, due to the air that it moves from the rear vent.
Other Thoughts: Discontinued model by Polk, so retailers are clearing them out, hence the price drop. For the money, it is an *amazing* value, and for regular movies and music listening, it is a class act. I use it to back up the low end on my vintage Polk SDA towers, and it fits right in.

Awesome Subwoofer
Reviewed By: bobgong on 7/24/2009
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Clean, powerful, deep bass. With the right placement, this thing will rock your world. Using line in (not LFE), I have volume turned to 75% with the low pass set at 120Hz, due to small front and satellite speakers, and have my Yamaha amp set at -8db for the subwoofer. Even at this low level, it really shakes my 15x20 room. Wifey still complains!
Cons: Front firing speaker limits room placement. My room is a little funky, so I had to center it on one wall and not directly facing the main seating area. This makes the bass levels change drastically around the room. Auto setting not as sensitive as I would like at low volume. Occasionally, I have to turn up the volume a bit to get it out of standby.
Other Thoughts: First, let me say sorry to newegg for not buying it here. The reason?.. I bought it as a floor model from an electronic store for a really, really low price. Being that this store (which rhymes with “flies”) will hire people that have no clue of what they are selling, the PSW505 was miss-marked as a PSW303. After convincing the salesman to give me another 10% off due to a broken grill pin, I walked out of there, smiling, with a PSW505 for less than 100 smacks.

Unbelievable bass

Pros: I have this paired with two Polk 60's, and it literally shakes my entire house. I don't mean a trailer either, I'm talking about solid block walls and it vibrates the wood posts on both my front and back porches. When I cut it up, it rattles the windows, every cup/plate and cabinet in my kitchen halfway across the house. You might discover low notes you've never heard before in music.
Gives a tactile aspect to games. You can FEEL the gunshots and explosions in Call of Duty. The ultra low notes of Bad Company 2's explosions sound unbelievable.
Cons: Had to move a pitcher from the wall the sub was against to another wall after it fell.
Having to fix the things rattling the most that got annoying (AC vent, coffee table glass).
If you like lots of bass you might cut the sub volume up too much, which is fine for certain things like games/techno/rap, but then can easily be too much for other genre's and could drown out dialog if your not careful.
People who bought overpriced HTIB's might be mad at you when they find out how much your system was.
Other Thoughts: My receiver has an auto acoustic calibration feature and it kept yelling at me to cut my sub volume down until I finally ended up halfway between 0 and max. The 10" might be enough then if you only want "accurate" base and don't have a huge room, though you will end up losing some amount of low end frequency. I say go ahead and get the 12", you won't be disappointed!

Pros: I bought mine in 2005 and it is STILL kick'n! I started out with the bass just hooked up to my JVC 55" TV. This REALLY helped the sound quality. I have since added more Polk speakers (created a 5.1 system) and I have been really happy.
Cons: None - unless your windows, walls and doors are cheap.... then you may get some "background" noise. To fix the problem, just increase the volume or get better walls, windows and doors.
Other Thoughts: The wife was not originally happy about the unit due to it's size, but it now hides under a lamp table and she he grown to love it on movie nights. Now, she has commented to friends about noticing missing sounds and effects in movies on occasion at other people's homes.
Just note, it is easy to get too much bass and make everything sound "boomy". Just go easy on it.... the awesome movie scenes tend to be bass heavy and will have fantastic volume and sound great without distortion.

Pros: Less than a 14 hour turnaround from order to door step...I must live next door to the warehouse or something! On the other hand the Polk psw505 is hands down a great sounding unit. I just had a mirage 12'' powered sub burn up on me that I paid $500+ for. Buy with confidence great item, Newegg great shipping , fair price
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: if you neighbors are less than 200 feet away they may not like your choice of speakers!!!!!!

This Sub Can Blow Your Pants Off!!!
Reviewed By: on 7/21/2010
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: I've had this sub for about 2 years now and let me tell you... It's pretty nuts! It litterally shakes entire sections of my house. From a room down the hall, around the corner and to the right from the stair case it vibrates the banister and walls! I had to get shelf liners for all the shelves in the room because it made everything walk off!
Cons: Ehh... I'm not a fan of the front being silver when you have the grill off. Not really a con as far as performance goes.
