Polk Audio 12" Powered Subwoofer Single

Explosive Performance for Movies and Music

Have a big room? Have the need for big, life-like bass impact? Then the PSW505 is the subwoofer for you. More than a mere brute, the PSW505 is equally at home reproducing all the subtle nuance of a plucked string bass as it is belting out a rocker's roar. Full-featured and over-powered, the PSW505 will rock your world and tick off your neighbors.

PSW505 Features

  • Real wood veneer finish
  • Slot Load Venting improves bass response. The wide, long Slot Load Vent dramatically lessens turbulence, noise and distortion, pouring out a tidal wave of precise, thunderous bass!
  • Polk subs sound better because they're built better. Rock-solid MDF construction (including a 1-inch thick front baffle) suppresses enclosure panel resonance for distortion-free, accurate response.
  • Big 12-inch Long Throw Driver for longer excursion and better linearity.
  • Huge Hi-Roll Surrounds that support their longer excursion.
  • Most powered subwoofers are good for just gut-rumble and boom. Polk understands that you listen to music too so our subs are tight, precise and accurate.
  • High current 300-Watt Continuous (460-Watt Dynamic) power amplifier.
  • Adjustable low pass crossover, phase switch and volume control allows perfect blending with any main speaker.
  • Auto on/off circuit that automatically turns your subwoofer on when it senses a program signal. When no signal is present, the amplifier turns off within 15 minutes
  • Unfiltered LFE input for use with low pass filtered subwoofer output jacks
  • Pro-grade 5-way binding posts speaker inputs and outputs.
  • Magnetically shielded for safe, flexible placement next to a TV or video monitor.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This thumps. I wasn't expecting this sub to be so powerful. I had to reduce the volume quite a bit so the people upstairs would quit stomping on the floor, and so it would sound level with the rest of the speakers.

Cons: Very heavy. Not a total con but it does make me have to prepare for it.

5 out of 5 eggsprice per performance

Pros: I bought it on black friday for a buck fifty! It replaced an aging sub and brought some new life into the room. Warm lows easy on the ears.

Cons: I guess i should have told my wife we bought a new sub woofer:)

Other Thoughts: I set it up for movies, hope it last. Not driving it too hard just filling the room with low freq's and it sounds great.

5 out of 5 eggsgood value

Pros: Picked this up on sale, not used in my primary media room but used in a basement bar system, and it sounded very good for the cost. Well built, good construction.

Cons: At full msrp there are alot of better options out there, but the common sale/street prices make this sub a good all around value.

For a 12" it really lacks the solidity and extension in the lower range. Starts to get a little sloppy at high volume.

Other Thoughts: For a family room, den, bedroom, office, etc system this can be a good economical choice that sounds quite good. But for a dedicated theater or media room, I'd recommend something else like Definitive or other better performing subs.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent purchase

Pros: I was concerned that this unit wouldn't have the power for a large room (17 x 25 ft) with cathedral ceilings. This sub handles it with ease!!! Mostly watch movies but music is excellent also. Didn't even know some of the bass lines existed prior to having this sub!! For home theater this sub is awesome !!

Cons: None... I read lots and lots of reviews and all the complaints are unwarranted unjustified.

Other Thoughts: Great product. Watch the price and timing...you can get incredible deals if you just keep watching !!!

5 out of 5 eggs#1 Best Sub

Pros: best value/bang4urbuck. 12", 300W, slot vent, all the features. This sub is the former top of the line Polk sub which is out of production. The new Polk sub topotheline is not as good imo. You can't get sub's like this anymore cuz they don't makem like this anymore. It cranks & is clear & crisp & adjustable....gr8 for music & theater. Buy it u'll love it!

Cons: none. ok nitpick time...the edges & corners are sharp....it's heavy but no cons really.

Other Thoughts: It was between this and the BIC 12" subs. I figured either 1 would be fine but I choose polk over the bIC's based on the slot vent, power/$$, and Polk's reputation & reliability reviews over BIC's. I wanted a 12", front fire, ported, 200W+ major brand under$300. the psw505 delivers all that & more...This sub gives features & performance of others in the $500-1K+ range. I've only used this for @ 1 month so far but it is outstanding & I'm glad I chose the psw505.

3 out of 5 eggs5 out of 10 - Its average

Pros: Price - If on sale its not that expensive
Sound - Goes decently low
Size - Its fairly compact

Cons: Output - Simply is not very loud. Some of these reviews crack me up saying sub shakes the foundation, etc, etc. I think these are people that have never owned a sub. I bought 2 and its still not that loud
Quality - One of mine stopped working after a month.

Other Thoughts: I really thought these would be louder based on the reviews. If they had a 15 inch model it probably would suffice, but until then I would say if your looking for a little rumble for your theater its not a bad choice, if you are looking for excitement, this is not your sub. Have owned - Sunfire mk, sunfire hd-10s, definitive 18.

5 out of 5 eggsextreme happy

Pros: I've had two of these subs for a few months. I absolutely love them! They sound very deep and handle music to movies to anything I throw at it. I recommended it to a couple of people.

Cons: None.
