The name “Monitor” is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging—all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. The newly reborn Monitor Series II is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, with vinyl veneer finishes, modern dark grey faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio Monitor30C boasts a 5.25" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance driver stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and midrange clarity with lower distortion. And a 1-inch Fabric/Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Dome Tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • newegg Enhanced Features The Polk Audio Monitor30C features small-diameter driver design that delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, “box-less,” three-dimensional sound. Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾"-thick baffles ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies. Critically Tuned Flared Port minimizes port noise (“chuffing”) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio Monitor30C can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.

4 out of 5 eggsBookshelf speakers

Pros: Nice speakers, not real fancy, but sound really good for being a small package and special price under $100 a few years ago. Clear high and mid range, bass is also pretty strong for size. Bought 1 pair, decided they were great price and got second for son at college for his room.

Cons: None, still sound good a few years later.

5 out of 5 eggsWow, what an upgrade.

Pros: Great value, nice sized speaker for rear surround, great quality and sound and looks sexy in cherry.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Well last week my 9 year old Denon AVR 485 blew up on me so I decided to buy a new budget amp and went for the Yamaha RX-V373 (purchased from Newegg and terrific amp). Anyhow after setting up the new amp it was obvious that my 9 year old Advent Newvision 5.1 speakers were the week link in my home theater. I visited a local store and listened to a few setups that cost from $800-2000 and really was not impressed, I did however get to hear a few Polk Audio sub woofers that impressed me and for the price I purchased a Polk PSW 10 for $99 and after this there was no turning back. I added the CS1 center and Monitor 50's for the front and Monitor 30's for the back. WOW, first of all, Newegg delivered in 24 hours (advantage of living close to their distribution center) and Newegg had the very best prices. $69 for a center speaker, come on. $79 for a floor standing Monitor 50!! And $69 for a pair of Monitor 30 providing surround sound!!! I immediately threw on my Tru Blood DVD's and was blown away, I then played a few hours of the Walking Dead and finally followed up with the Battlestar Galactica mini series. Awesome. The speakers sounded a little bright for the first 20 hours or so but have loosened up. The sound stage is unbelievable, the sub does not overwhelm the center speaker and the surround effects are amazing. Obviously I am unable to attribute the sound on speakers alone, the amp is a key ingredient, however the speakers look unbelievable in cherry finish and sound fantastic. I am not an audiophile by any means, just a regular Joe who likes watching movies at home. I do not have the budget of the true audiophile and was reluctant to spend a huge amount of money on home theater upgrades. The cost for my 5.1 surround upgrade was ridiculously cheap and the quality of sound just blows me away, I have a huge grin on my face now every time I sit down to watch the TV, even if it is depressing news! $395 for 5.1 speakers!!! $249 for the Yamaha amp. Come on!!! Win Win situation... I looked at the Energy Take Classic 5.1 which retailed at $399 but I am so happy I went this route instead.

5 out of 5 eggsgood price performance

Pros: bought these for 79.99

sounds great after being broken in at >20hrs, using them for fronts until i buy the moniter 70's. The detail on these is very good the imaging is awesome. they are "bright" but have started to soften love the vocals on these. I bought the PSW505 from another online vendor and have the CS1 center. they go very well together. I was looking at Swan 6.2 Diva's but the cost is an order of magnitude higher for a complete system. These are very good speakers for the price, I bought the CS1 center first to see if i liked the sound of the tweeter and midrange, and i must say that i do. these are a very good line of speakers for the price. these will be used for surrounds when i get the 70's

Cons: grill is somewhat cheap but for the price not a bad trade off for the performance.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little speakers

Pros: Great sounding little speakers. Got them yesterday and ran then non-stop for about 6 hours at medium volume and the "stuffy" congested sound soon started to open up as they broke in some. Running them as front L/R.
Can't wait to hear them some more.

Cons: None that I see.

Other Thoughts: Need another pair of these or better yet move these to surround and get a pair of Monitor 40's or 50's for the front.

5 out of 5 eggsI know nothing about speakers

Pros: I'm using these as desktop speakers. The sound production is pretty good for what my ears can tell. Light years above my Logitech Z4's. The cherry look is amazing, who ever thinks it looks bad clearly got some bad stock or is too familiar with the real thing. Classical, blues and folk music sound amazing on these speakers. Very soothing sound out of the box.

Cons: Bass could be a bit deeper, but keep in mind these are supposed to be used as part of a 5.1 or 7.1 system that usually have a sub woofer. That being said newer Rock music seems to be missing something on these, the old tunes sounds great.

Other Thoughts: I got these on sale and I'm glad I did. These things are huge. No idea what kind of bookshelf these are supposed to fit on. Measure before you buy. I'm glad I didn't get the 40's.

These are hooked up to my PC using its analog connection feed to my Harmon/Kardon AVR-2600 using it's zone 2 feature.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice for a Book Shelf set

Pros: These seem to be a very nice set of book shelf speakers. Look nice and match my Cherry Monitor 60 & 50's well. Just recieved yesterday so i cant speak on sound just yet but right out of the box they sound much fuller than the satellites i was running before.

Cons: Not much of a Con but the size is bigger than i anticipated. Be sure to make sure they will fit where you want them especially as rear suurround speakers which is what i bought them for.

Other Thoughts: I bought these to use as my rear surround speakers in a 7.1 setup. They sound good so far and look nice. The footprint was a little bigger than expected for the smallest book shelf speaker you can get from Polk in cherry. I had satellites from a RM6750 HTIB set previously and they are tiny compared to these. I only have a 6" hearth on my fire place behind my sitting area to set these on. Thinking of hanging these in front as front high speakers and am going to have to search for a smaller matching set of rear surrounds. Also noticed that if you plan to use the incorporated hanging bracket that you wont be able to use banana plugs as they stick out farther than the bracket and the speaker will not sit flush on the wall. I dont plan to use theyse but thought i would mention it. Other than that, very pleased with my purchase and now i get to buy two more speakers, cant go wrong there.

2 out of 5 eggsLousy customer service...

Pros: Case not as cheap looking as everyone says.shipped fast.

Cons: Item arrived broken, neither NewEgg or Polk were much help.

Other Thoughts: These speakers arrived broken. I was remodeling my dining room, and waiting to finish before I opened them (to avoid dust and scratches). When I opened the box, one was broken.newegg said their warranty period had expired, and told me to call Polk. They sent me a replacement bass crossover, and expected me to fix it myself. Will never buy Polk again...

2 out of 5 eggsNot impressed

Pros: Price: @ under $80 for the pair, and many decent reviews, I thought I couldn't lose. I was replacing a 10+ year old set of Infinity RS3 speakers.

Cons: I was not impressed with these speakers. They sounded tinny. And the cherry finish was less than impressive. All and all not worth keeping. I returned them.

Other Thoughts: Newegg was good about the return and i wound up making another purchase. I went back to Infinity and I'm pleased I did. I'm far from an audiofile, but I know when I'm not happy too.

5 out of 5 eggsGood choice for close field (computer speakers).

Pros: Sound -- Clear and precise. Highs are smooth and bass is deep and punchy while remaining tight.

Appearance -- Clean and sleek. I have a large desk for which I have my computer monitor on; these speakers are setup in stereo on either side of my monitor and look very professional.

Cons: (This is a slight con)

On some bass parts for example in the song "Remo Baldi - The Theater, The Dream, The Battlefield" the bass will hit a frequency in which it will sound 'boomy'. It's an annoying frequency and I can confirm it's these speakers, as my high end Polk TSI 500's don't exhibit this frequency, but that's because they've been equalized and also have a subwoofer to handle those lower bass frequencies.

Other Thoughts: I'm a real audiophile nut and I'll spend hours getting my speakers to sound (to my ears) as good as possible. Even if that means moving the speaker a fraction of an inch.
When I wanted to get myself some computer speakers I couldn't simply buy some cheap $20 dollar HP speakers. I need quality and these speakers offer than in an affordable and beautifully sounding package!
