Polk Audio Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Black) - Single

The name "Monitor" is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value.

The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. The reborn Monitor Series is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish look that complements today's flat screen technology, with wood grain finishes and mod Titanium faces, and beefy stabilizer feet on the tower models.

Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

Incredible Sound. Affordable Price.

The high efficiency design of this classic floorstanding loudspeaker allows it to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. This is the hallmark of the stylish Monitor Series.

The Monitor 60II Features:

  • 1-inch (25mm) fabric/polymer composite Dynamic Balance® dome tweeter with powerful neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • 5 1/4-inch bi-laminate composite Dynamic Balance drivers are lightweight and stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and lower distortion.
  • Multiple small-diameter driver design delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, "box-less" three-dimensional sound.
  • Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with 3/4-thick baffles and front-to-back and side-to-side internal bracing ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality.
  • Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies.
  • Dual 5-Way binding post connectors, allowing for more secure hook-up options, as well as bi-wiring and bi-amping flexibility.
  • Monitor Series speakers are "modern living accessories" that make a stylish statement in either black or cherry wood grain finish, with titanium faces.
  • Bold, fat stabilizer feet that ensure stability on carpet or hard floors for more precise bass response and superior imaging.
  • Slim tower design has a footprint of less than one square foot.
  • Critically tuned flared port minimizes port noise ("chuffing") for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • All Polk Audio products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry's most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk Audio loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: I'm routinely blown away with the clarity and power of these towers. I slowly have pieced together a full Polk setup with these newegg insane deals, and let's just say you won't go wrong adding these as your fronts.

Cons: The odd cat hair on the front grill? But that's my fault.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat rear surrounds

Pros: Great surround speakers, nice and clear, smaller than that 70s so they fit nicely behind the couch.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: 70 fronts, 60 rears, CS2 center, and two 12' polk subs makes a heck of a theater.

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Excellent sound. Much better than old Bose 301 speakers they replaced. $100 is a great price for these. Later bought CS2 for center and might regret not going up to Monitor70s which might have been a better match for CS2. However the Monitor70s while likely a little better are close to twice the price.

Cons: Monitor70?

Other Thoughts: Neweggg seems to have the best prices on these Polk speakers.

5 out of 5 eggsLike 'em

Pros: Tight and crisp.

Cons: Sound way better when driven hard. Not a con, needed to type something in here.

Other Thoughts: Great speakers for the price. A low end 5.1 AV tuner requires a subwoofer for bass when listening to music. A vintage Pioneer SA-1050 drives these things great- superb tight, thumping bass with acceptable mids and crisp treble. I wired a Niles DPS-1 and switch between the two for music and movies.

2 out of 5 eggsNot very good.

Pros: Not a whole lot of detail. The mids lack a lot. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Cons: Lack of detail.

3 out of 5 eggsNot very good

Pros: Can't say I'm pleased with them. Got them a few months back to improve on my TV speakers (easy enough.)
I have them matched up with a Denon AVR-790 (not exactly new), together with their matching center channel and a Yamaha sub, both of which came later.
The truth is that to the naked eye (read ear) they are just good enough. But if for some reason you want to play music, the mid frequencies are largely absent, the lows only aided with the sub, and it is the trebles that sounds half decent.
In retrospect, I would've saved my money and bought the next Polk series of something else altogether.

Cons: Boxed in sound.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat sound. Physically sized right for my room.

Pros: The sound is great, maybe even fantastic. The Lows extend as much as midrange speakers should, and the highs are plenty high.
The look impressed a few friends, before I even plugged them in.

For a 2.1(left and right+ subwoofer) setup, these are better than my Klipsch F-30s, since these deliver the highs the F-30s are lacking.
With my F-30s these will make phenomenal rear speakers for my 5/7.1/2

Cons: I ordered my second Klipsch F-30, then changed my mind, cancelled the sale, got confirmation from Newegg that the sale was cancelled, then I purchased these. The next day I received the F-30.
Considering this pair cost roughly enough the same amount as that one speaker...

Other Thoughts: Currently powering these with a Pioneer VSX-44.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely love these speakers!

Pros: The sound out of the towers is crisp and clean. Definitely an upgrade to my system.

Cons: A little bulky. The towers are quite deep, but if want good acoustics, if must be so.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Speakers Bad Shipping Company

Pros: Good speakers for the money, also purchased the CS1 center and the RC60I ceiling speakers for the rears in a 5.1 setup. The overall sound is really good for for the price paid. Would have given 5 eggs, but OnTrac shipping delivered the order with no signature and left everything sitting in the yard.

Cons: OnTrac Shipping. I contacted this shipping company, asked them to delay the delivery by 2 days because I would be out of town. They ignored me, delivered the items anyway with no delivery signature and the items sat in the backyard for 2 days. I have always been happy with newegg, but if this is a shipping company that is now being used on a regular basis, I will think twice before I order again.

5 out of 5 eggsCant beat them with a stick

Pros: Great sounding speaker period.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Purchased 4 of these to pair with a Yamaha RX-V477 1 Polk PSW10 and CS series to sell as a NIB 5.1 system. Ended up keeping them to sub for the Polk TSX220s I was going to purchase to complete my 7.2 system with a RX-V677 at the heart. After a breif "break in" period of heavy base on the "enhancer" selection they sound amazing for a $99 speaker. The folks that say these are not good speakers are crazy. Pair these up with a Yamaha receiver and youll be fine.
