Polk Audio Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Black) - Single

The name "Monitor" is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value.

The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. The reborn Monitor Series is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish look that complements today's flat screen technology, with wood grain finishes and mod Titanium faces, and beefy stabilizer feet on the tower models.

Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

Incredible Sound. Affordable Price.

The high efficiency design of this classic floorstanding loudspeaker allows it to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. This is the hallmark of the stylish Monitor Series.

The Monitor 60II Features:

  • 1-inch (25mm) fabric/polymer composite Dynamic Balance® dome tweeter with powerful neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • 5 1/4-inch bi-laminate composite Dynamic Balance drivers are lightweight and stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and lower distortion.
  • Multiple small-diameter driver design delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, "box-less" three-dimensional sound.
  • Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with 3/4-thick baffles and front-to-back and side-to-side internal bracing ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality.
  • Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies.
  • Dual 5-Way binding post connectors, allowing for more secure hook-up options, as well as bi-wiring and bi-amping flexibility.
  • Monitor Series speakers are "modern living accessories" that make a stylish statement in either black or cherry wood grain finish, with titanium faces.
  • Bold, fat stabilizer feet that ensure stability on carpet or hard floors for more precise bass response and superior imaging.
  • Slim tower design has a footprint of less than one square foot.
  • Critically tuned flared port minimizes port noise ("chuffing") for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • All Polk Audio products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry's most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk Audio loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

5 out of 5 eggsstylish and clear

Pros: small foot print, decent sound

Cons: although the sound is great, it lacks the low end punch below 70hz. Sounds best if coupled with a decent subwoofer and properly adjusted crossover

5 out of 5 eggsgood choice

Pros: Many of the reviewers have these speakers set up in a 5.1 system. They're very good for that, no doubt. But I now use the Monitor 60s in an old school 2-channel set-up with a vintage (and if I may say, rocking) Denon PMA-750 integrated amplifier. Excellent sound when set up with a good quality turntable, CD player, and Sonos Connect. So if anyone has interest in using these in a 2-channel system you probably won't be disappointed.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsLove these things

Pros: Classy look, nice finish. I waited some time before writing a review as I wanted to let them break-in. It had been a long time since I owned a home audio system and after reading the reviews on these and the shell shocker deal I decided to buy a pair. Not disappointed at all. For an "entry" level speaker these things can really rock. These along with a pair of bose 301 series iii, the cs2 series II and psw505 all behind the yamaha rx-v573bl.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Eventually I will move these speakers and make some tsx550t the main fronts but these will be excellent rear speakers

5 out of 5 eggsDefinitely Bi-Amp These

Pros: Cheap
Excellent for movies
If there was a first baby step on a path to becoming an audiophile and pursuing higher end equipment in the years to come, these would be it. Or is this a con? Perspective is everything I suppose...

Cons: Power hungry
Not as good for music as they are movies, but excellent for the price
Struggle to create an immersive soundstage, but with well mastered tracks, they're good enough

Other Thoughts: I've had these for a few months, along with monitor 30s as my surrounds, a cs1 center channel, and BIC F12 sub; all tied together with an Onkyo TX-NR717. After initially getting everything set up and calibrated, I was pleased. However I had only thus far used them for watching movies. It wasn't until very recently that I started using them for music, in stereo. They sounded good, but "boxed in". It's as if I could tell that they could easily sound much more open and full, but that something was in the way. Additionally, I found them to be rather bright, and after extended listening periods (a couple hours) I would be noticeable fatigued by them. They weren't tinny or particularly harsh in the high end, they were plenty accurate, but noticeably bright, and resultingly fatiguing. After some research online leading me to believe that they are power hungry and will not sound quite right unless given at least 200W or so, I decided to bi-amp them. What a difference!! The difference was so great that it's the only reason I'm writing this review, a few hours after the fact. They really opened up, just as I felt they could. The low end and mids were rejuvenated and I was finally getting full, and more detailed, sound from these polks. For the price, these are awesome (once bi-amped or given more juice w/out bi-amping).

Despite the massive improvement in the low end, I still choose to listen to music with these with the sub engaged. What bass they deliver is tight and accurate, but they don't reach down quite low enough: ~50hz is as low as they'll get. One thing I like however, is that it seems they won't even bother to attempt any freqs lower than they can play accurately, so even if your sub's off, you won't hear any distorted low end noise. With my sub's crossover set at 120hz, it blends very well with the polks.

5 out of 5 eggsLove them

Pros: For the price they do an excellent job. I replaced an ageing pair of B&W speakers (which are quite expensive) with these and wow!

4 out of 5 eggsPolk sound rocks

Pros: Excellent sound quality. I currently use them as rear surround speakers in a setup with Monitor 70s as front, Monitor 30s as front height and a CS2 center and a PSW505 powered sub.

Cons: Tall and somewhat thin. They seem stable but probably better to keep an eye on the kids of they are fully freestanding.

5 out of 5 eggsJust awesome!

Pros: - Crystal clear sound
- Open and spacious - just as Polk claims
- Smooth, true and warm with beautiful mid and highs - ideal for music
- Overall, the sound is exceptionally well balanced and accurate.
- Great looking speakers and they are front ported.

Cons: - There are no cons whatsoever

Other Thoughts: I would just be repeating all the good comments made by previous reviewers. These speakers made a world of difference. I am enjoying my music collection like never before. I can hear all those subtle tones and echoes. The sound is very clear and accurate - as if the singer and the band is right there.
These speakers are great for music and do just as well for home theater. If you are primarily intending movies, there is greater selection out there. If you like music, monitor series is the way to go.
I replaced Onkyo SKF 520's. The two speakers are worlds apart. Its almost surreal.
I liked my monitor 60's so much that I decided to replace the Onkyo center channel speaker and I ordered a CS1. I can assure you that the CS1 is another fantastic product as well. Both of them sounded great from the start. Just as other reviewers have mentioned, these do take two weeks+ to break in. Once they break in, the sound truly opens up. You will like what you hear even more.
With the monitor 60's and the CS1 up in the front, I am having a great time.
I will get the monitor 30's for the rear when they are on sale for sure.
I am a Polk guy now.

5 out of 5 eggsbest sound for the price

Pros: my 7.2 system is build out of all polks. i have 3 monitor 60 S2 for front stage and it made huge difference. If you have good quality receiver (not some $300 special) those speakers will shine. Clear and soft sound. They will produce sound from what you plug in to them if you have good amps and processor they will sing for you, if you saved money on your bd player and receiver then they'll accordingly will produce bad quality sound.

Cons: nothing really.

Other Thoughts: If you have chance i would suggest having up-right/vertical speakers for your center channel. After 2 years i replaced my CS2 with Monitor 60 and i could not believe how much difference it made. How much "more" sound vertical speaker produces, much better quality that kind of amercing you in dialog or what ever sound coming from that center. Center speaker is very important for your movie set up, if you can - get vertical speaker.
