The name “Monitor” is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging—all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. The newly reborn Monitor Series II is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, with vinyl veneer finishes, modern dark grey faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

  • newegg Slim, High Efficiency Design The Polk Audio Monitor60C features a slim tower design with a footprint of less than one square foot to fit your flat-panel TV, plasma monitors and other thin-line home cinema components. High efficiency design allows the Monitor60C to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. Bold, fat stabilizer feet ensure stability on carpet or hard floors for more precise bass response and superior imaging.
  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio Monitor60C boasts three 5.25" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and midrange clarity with lower distortion. And a 1-inch Fabric/Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Dome Tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • newegg Enhanced Features The Polk Audio Monitor60C features small-diameter driver design that delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, “box-less,” three-dimensional sound. Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾"-thick baffles ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies. Critically Tuned Flared Port minimizes port noise (“chuffing”) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio Monitor60C can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.

5 out of 5 eggsOne Giant Leap...

Pros: Previous setup was an older Infinity Primus set. Compared to what are essentially bookshelf speakers, these Monitor 60's and the CS2 center I picked up are years beyond it. Makes me wish I'd of upgraded much sooner.

When this (and the other Polk speakers) go on sale via Newegg, I seriously doubt you can piece together a better HT setup for the price.

Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggs8 ohms ? really ??

Pros: cheap. looks good (high waf).

Cons: Where do I start ? First of all these speakers are NOT 8 ohms. As per my impedance measurement these qualify as 4 ohm speakers and that too on the difficult to drive side of 4 ohms. The impedance drops to 3 and lower in the good part of the freq range.
These are the absolutely worst sounding speakers I have ever listened to. The cabinets are so badly made that if you run your hand especially on the lower sides of the cabinet you can actually feel the vibration of the sound. There is no cabinet bracing or damping used in this speaker whatsoever.
The tweeter is a cheap $2 beeper that has horrible (audible!) distortion and the crossover design has nothing to damp or bypass that distortion.
As a result of these cons these speakers sound harsh and boxy.

Other Thoughts: Polk needs to get its act together and stop fooling people.
And people need to get some idea about what is called good sounding and what is bad.

5 out of 5 eggsMonitor 60's

Pros: Sound Depth

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I was using two sets of Monitor 40's as front and suround's. Also using a CS2(center) and a PSW505(SW). I moved one set of the 40's to the back as rear surround's and put the 60's as fronts. All I can say is the difference between the 40's and 60's is night and day. The sound the 60's produce as far as sound depth was what I was looking for. I couldn't be happier with the sound. Im using a Yamaha RX-720.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: SIZE--small footprint fits my available space perfectly--CONSTRUCTION-- solid and looks great --SOUND--beautiful, everything I was expecting from POLK

Cons: NONE --that I have seen

Other Thoughts: Great sound, BASS is more then I expected, cranked it up at first then had to go back and reduce it. Just too much for the music I listen to. If you watch action films think about a sub. Sound better and I am happier with them every time I turn them on. NEWEGG IS FANTASTIC !!!

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful upgrades

Pros: These speakers are wonderful bang for your buck. I would highly recommend these for anyone with a small-medium home theater room setup. I am currently running 4 of these, and using 2 for fronts, and 2 for surrounds in a 5.1 setup. Wait for a sale and these puppies go as low as about 100 bucks a piece, but I'd buy them for twice as much now after playing Battlefield 3.

4 out of 4 were -entirely- undamaged!!! With all of the reviews stating that they had cracked covers, I was concerned slightly, but they arrived mint.

Cons: The speakers arrived mint, but the boxes looked like they were used for target practice. 3 of my 4 boxes had at least had large punctures from shipping. Bad UPS. 5/5 eggs for the product overall, but only 3/5 brown socks for UPS this time.

Other Thoughts: These towers are ideal or anyone with a smaller home theater area. They are compact in comparison to many other towers, but sound really good with proper setup. For most people they will likely sound fantastic plug-and-play right out of the box, but for you budget audiophiles, you can definitely hear the difference when tweaking to your liking.

5 out of 5 eggsDelightful

Pros: Good deal when on sale
Clear, full sound
Nice range

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I purchased a set of the black 60's in February, and have been so happy with them that the next time they went on the great sale price, I snapped up a pair of the cherry-colored ones. At the sale price (policy prohibits me saying it, but it's the highest 2-digit number...), I don't see how they could be beat! Shipping was prompt, and they arrived in good condition. Only weird thing is that you open the box from the bottom - but the manual is stuck way at the top, beyond another styrofoam spacer. So - if that's my biggest complaint, there ARE no complaints! :-)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: The price of this tower speaker vs. the clarity makes this speaker hard pressed to be beaten in its price point. It sounds great upto -10db on an AVR with 75watts per channel max with music. On movies after they have broken in and Audyssey auto calibration was run I can go full refrence level without ear fatigue. These speakers do scream the necessity for being ran on an amp or a higher output avr. The entry level hifi home theater receiver's will work fine for most people, but if you want to jam out they want more power. I am overall satified with my purchase and for the amount I was able to spend, there is no buyers remorse. Had I more funds, I would have definitely stepped up to the RTI series towers. I gave these 5 eggs because for the price you'll be hard pressed to find a better entry level hifi speaker that sounds this good musicallt and works great for home theater. I have this paired with 2 475 watt 12" subs and have the subs crossed over at 80hz. Perfect balance like this

Cons: The midbass region, when ran in 2 channel stereo, rolls off well before the advertised freq response. The frequency is still present but not very powerful. They will definitely round out the sound in the midbass region but not jaw dropping midbass punch. NEEDS A GOOD SUB!

Other Thoughts: If you have bookshelves, satellites, htib, or inwalls this will be a tremendous upgrade. I am very pleased overall and watching movies at my house trumps the movie theater any day. All my kids' friends ask if they can come over and watch a movie now.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW

Pros: Nice clean sound have had for about 2 years. Sound good in small room and in larger room either with high cellings or low cellings. For the price these sound nice. I have an older set of B&W DM4's these sound almost as nice off my Yamaha reciver.
Bass is not boomy and the Silk dome tweeter is clear and smooth.
Also have 4 of the small 2 wat speakers in the same line and a center channel. Currently only have the center and the towers hooked up. and you know this has enough bass i'm not using a sub but will be adding a JL 12w3 in a custom made box i'm making later.
Only wish i had gotten the 6" version or the 5 ways.
I install high end car audio with about 17 years exp at shops so i know sound qulity. For the money these things rock for music or just TV.
My son has a pair of B&W's newer versions and a rotel reciver when I turn my system he can't hear his in his room with the door closed. If you have problems with output look at your ohm settings on the back of your Yamaha reciver.

Cons: Didn't get the 6" driver set with 4 midbass drivers in it.

4 out of 5 eggsTreat for the ears.

Pros: Very handsome speakers in the Cherry finish. Speaker covers on or off Once broken in these entry level hi-fi speakers sound rich and very enjoyable. No perceptible chuffing or resonance even at near rock concert levels. When you have the covers off, these speakers are just gorgeous.

Cons: Front grill is somewhat fragile, you will have to be careful taking it off or putting it on the speaker. Are these the be all end all hi-fi speakers? Hardly - are they better than what you've been listening to? If you purchased a "home theater in a box" or are still using your frat house speakers most definitely the speakers will provide an aural treat.

Other Thoughts: I'm using these as my Surround Back speakers in a 7.2 set up. But before they were my back surrounds I also used them as fronts while waiting for other speakers to arrive. Terrific sound. If you've never had a pair of even entry level hi-fi speakers, these would be a treat for your years. I do recommend breaking in 50 to 100 hours for best sound.
