The name “Monitor” is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging—all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. The newly reborn Monitor Series II is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, with vinyl veneer finishes, modern dark grey faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

  • newegg Slim, High Efficiency Design The Polk Audio Monitor70B features a slim tower design with a footprint of less than one square foot to fit your flat-panel TV, plasma monitors and other thin-line home cinema components. High efficiency design allows the Monitor70B to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. Bold, fat stabilizer feet ensure stability on carpet or hard floors for more precise bass response and superior imaging.
  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio Monitor70B boasts four 6.5" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and midrange clarity with lower distortion. And a 1-inch Fabric/Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Dome Tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • newegg Enhanced Features The Polk Audio Monitor70B features small-diameter driver design that delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, “box-less,” three-dimensional sound. Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾"-thick baffles ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies. Critically Tuned Flared Port minimizes port noise (“chuffing”) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio Monitor70B can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: What performance, what sound quality!! What a difference! Crystal clear sound whether movie or music combined with the Polk Monitor 25C Center speaker it adds a new dimension to what I had before. I have added the BIC F12 sub and I could not be happier.

Cons: If there is a con it would be size. These are not small.

Other Thoughts: Haven't had this long enough to comment on durability, quality but at this price I am very pleased.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid purchase

Pros: Great full sound.

Cons: Needs a lot of power. Bi-amping is almost a must to get the max amount of sound out of these

Other Thoughts: First receiver didn't support bi-amping and these were ok. Replaced it after about a year with one that does and immediately noticed a huge difference in the quality of sound.

5 out of 5 eggsPolk Monitor 70 Series II

Pros: - Nice Sound Stage
- Clear Crisp Highs
- Plenty of Bass
- Details are heard that weren't heard before

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: These speakers are VERY good. I was looking into getting the Klipsch F20 towers after comparing them to the good rated Pioneers. The Pioneers sounded low, distorted and muddy when compared to the Klipsch. So I came back home to research and found many liked the Polks over Klipsch. I really couldn't tell which was better based on videos that I found but felt I couldn't go wrong with either speaker. I like a more detailed speaker and from the good reviews I found here and online I felt that either speaker would suit my needs. After the promo code here on NewEgg the decision was made to with the Polks.

The speakers came via UPS and the boxes were huge and heavy. I read that many had received broken grills and damaged speakers but my boxes were intact and my speakers were received undamaged. After unboxing the speakers and my new receiver I swapped out my old VSX-918 with the new VSX-1124 and disconnected my Energy Take fronts and setup the new equipment.

I was initially blown away by the bass the Polks put out. I have a 5.2 setup and before tuning the setup I only had the Polks running and they sounded like my 2 subs were playing along with them but in actuality they were even engaged. So these speakers to have adequate bass on their own. After dialing in the settings I have to say that I'm pleased with them. Even my wife could say that the voices in movies and tv are louder and more pronounced along with being able to hear things in scenes that were not heard before through the Energy Take setup.

We are pleased with the purchase and I have all intentions of replacing the center as well as the surrounds with Polk equipment and maybe even adding another set of towers for the rear.

4 out of 5 eggsRock Solid Speakers -- Does Take A Powerful AMP

Pros: -Rich clear lows, mids, and highs.
-Good sound reproduction.
-Spikes in response curve, but good for price.

Cons: -Big... They are big speakers.
-They take a lot of power to run properly. My amp was fairly upset (RX-V1500), but I managed to get it to work (overload if I REALLY blast them).

Other Thoughts: I'd definitely buy them again.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Value!!

Pros: Looks better in person, 2 sets of 5 way binding posts, "can" produce impressive bass.

Cons: None worth mentioning.

Other Thoughts: First of all, when the egg offers the super sale, you end up getting way more for your money!!

While owning these lovely speakers, I had the chance to experiment with; wiring, amplification and placement.

You can bi-wire, but don't expect a major difference, I ended up making homemade jumpers from 10awg wire and just running a single set of wires.

You can bi-amp from the AVR but again, don't expect an audible change worth writing home about.

Placement, for best results from a 10' listening distance, I spaced the 70's about 8' apart, pulled off the wall about 2.5' and toed them in so the axis crossed just behind my head. They imaged very well, providing depth and clarity at an exceptional level considering the price.

Power; these bad boys are hungry. I ran them off of my AVR and in stereo, they were fed right at 135wpc. I added an external amp providing 200wpc, and when the volume is cranked, I noticed more detail coming from the 70's.

Now, check this out. The 70's are rated at 275w. I demoed them for sale hooked up to an amp cranking out 300wpc. The Monitor 70's became a different speaker, the additional power did two things; 1) allowed the M70's to yield even more detail, impressive detail. 2) the M70's had a bass output that was felt in the floor.

Suddenly, I was hesitant to sell 'em, I was shocked and impressed with the sound that my speakers were making, so much that I told the buyer that I might have second thoughts. The buyer was equally impressed and quickly shelled out my asking price and was happy about it!!

Speakers are more likely to clip from being underpowered than over powered (get your read on with speaker clipping).

The Monitor 70's responded incredibly to the additional power. These speakers, in my set up, were primarily used for H.T, not that great for 2ch music, but when the power came on, they became a musical speaker that I hadn't heard before, the detail and depth just blew me away.

I used 12awg copper speaker wire and replaced the stock jumpers with 10awg copper speaker wire.

At retail prices, these speaker are highly recommended, at these incredible sale prices, I'm wondering, what the heck are you waiting for???

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb

Pros: After building a home theater with stadium seating and a 7.1 150W / ch sound system I quickly found that I needed to elevate my front L/R channels. I searched for some time and came to the conclusion that I could buy these speakers for the same cost of some decent speaker stands.

The high location of the tweeters really help to get the sound stage up and off the floor and the audio quality from these speakers is more than good.

Balance, clarity, and power all shine in this set with a few notable problems.

Can be bi-amped, to run as separate channels.

Cons: These speakers are not the most sensitive and seem to take a good amount of power to drive. Additionally, they produce a very slight hum (not the normal 60hz hum either). It appears that the speakers are highlighting a flaw in my source or amplifier that the original speakers didn't show.

They also seem to have a different power curve than my existing speakers. That is to say, they get louder or softer, faster than the other 5 speakers in my setup. Many times I find that the center / surround channels are too loud in soft scenes, and not loud enough in loud scenes because of the way these speakers respond.

BOTH of the above issues are because the speakers are BETTER in terms of power handling / dynamic range / frequency response.

Not the best BASS, as expected... Get a sub-woofer.

Other Thoughts: I cannot deduct points for my cons. These speakers are amazing products in their own right, they just don't blend as well with my system as the original front L/R. Would I replace them? No. They do what I was looking for, and I am willing for them to stick out a little since the front L/R handle 90% of the sound information anyway.

3 out of 5 eggsNice speakers but arrived with broken grill

Pros: High quality, great all-around sounding speakers for the money. Worthy of a 5 out of 5 rating if you can get an undamaged pair.

Cons: One speaker arrived with a dented/torn box and a broken grill. New Egg was not able to send a replacement grill leaving me the option of shipping back a 50 pound speaker, and waiting for a back-ordered replacement or accepting a $15 credit, which won't buy me a new grill.

Other Thoughts: Read some other reviews, it seems damaged and/or defective products seem to be fairly common with this site, not worth it IMO. I'd suggest looking elsewhere if possible.

4 out of 5 eggsKS

Pros: Great sounding speakers can't wait till they get broke in though as I'm assuming they will even sound better really nice base and highs.

Cons: as everyone else has commented the grills came damaged but the rest of the speaker was fine.

Other Thoughts: You would think that with the problem they have with shipping the grills they would find a better way of shipping them. Still trying to find a way to replace the grills but no one has contacted me yet as I've left messages with Polk audio and Newegg don't want to return the speakers just to replace flimsy speaker grills

5 out of 5 eggsVery pleased

Pros: Great sound, well built. Caught them on sale for the holidays, worth every penny. They look sleek with or without the grills. Amazing bass response, was surprised honestly.

Cons: The only con I see is this speaker is tall and may tip over if children or dogs are involved, especially on carpet.

Other Thoughts: I bought these to replace a 16+ year old set of quality drivers. I was hesitant dropping from the old 15inch woofers, But these Polk 6 1/2 inch drivers surprised me. The sound is crisp and clean, with excellent punchy bass response. I added a Bic America F12 to pick up the ultra lows, and now my system is complete
