The name “Monitor” is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging—all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. The newly reborn Monitor Series II is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, with vinyl veneer finishes, modern dark grey faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

  • newegg Slim, High Efficiency Design The Polk Audio Monitor70B features a slim tower design with a footprint of less than one square foot to fit your flat-panel TV, plasma monitors and other thin-line home cinema components. High efficiency design allows the Monitor70B to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. Bold, fat stabilizer feet ensure stability on carpet or hard floors for more precise bass response and superior imaging.
  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio Monitor70B boasts four 6.5" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and midrange clarity with lower distortion. And a 1-inch Fabric/Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Dome Tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • newegg Enhanced Features The Polk Audio Monitor70B features small-diameter driver design that delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, “box-less,” three-dimensional sound. Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾"-thick baffles ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies. Critically Tuned Flared Port minimizes port noise (“chuffing”) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio Monitor70B can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Garbage

Pros: No Pros

Cons: The sound is more worse than my Toyota's manufacturer speakers. And Toyota is in the business of making cars, not speakers. The sound is child's play. I would never buy a Polk speaker again.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent for the price

Pros: These are a very nice low budget speaker. Polk has done a fine job with the Monitor series. I purchased these 2 years ago for under three hundred bucks for the pair. My first instinct was purchase the Klipsch rf 30. I'm glad i bought these first. Good mid-ranges and highs. The speakers are visually appealing thin and tall. The sound stage is good quality. The build is good nice tight cabinets the grills are easy off easy on,

Cons: Like I said the speakers are non directional as the sound produced is bleeding out in all directions. These things are very power hungry too. You need to pump up the wattage for them to sound good. A good amp is a prerequisite 100+ watts per channel should suffice. If you are looking at purchasing these speakers for a home theater you will need a Sub wolfer. Last year reading through some of the reviews I noticed allot of folks losing tweeters, My take on that would be underpowered amps.
One other thing, being so thin and tall the speakers are very easily knocked over. Be Carful or you will be repairing your walls. They make nice diamond shaped holes in your drywall.

The Klipsch RF 30s do sound a little better to me. But like everything that is up to your preference. Everyone has a different ear.

Other Thoughts: All in all for the price point these are a good entry level speaker. The sonic expansion is noticeable but not so much that the speaker get muddy, The highs are acceptable and the mid range kicks, the lows are lacking any deep down booming house shaking bass, For listening to rock jazz and hip hop no issues, where i feel they fall short is classical and heavy instrumental 40s era music and opera .
If you are looking for a bargain, know going in that these are not an audiophile type speaker. Then these are a good deal with an appealing good quality sound. You shouldn't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat front towers

Pros: Love these things. They sound great, very clear, nice sound stage.

Cons: Big and deep, but they look great and I knew that buying them.

Other Thoughts: Polk 70 fronts, 60 rears, CS2 center, and 2x 12' polk subs makes a heck of a theater.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Clear in most of the sound range. Good highs and mids not bad in bass but you probably have a sub anyway. I have a PW505 which complements these very well.

Cons: A little weak on bass but overall good for the size of the drivers. Some say these are big but they are thinner and taller than my old infinity sm215s

Other Thoughts: They do need a good power source my Onkyo TX-NR414 is almost too small but it still pushes them to the point of being painfully loud. Add a subwoofer, good surrounds, and a sub and they are great home theater speakers as well.

Some say they are too bright I noticed but they are actually less bright than my Klipsch center channel with its horn tweeter. Overall I am very happy with these speakers and they made a great replacement for my old Infinity SM 215 which had become frankenspeakers over the years as their drivers had died.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good speakers for the $

Pros: Great sound from decent lows to clean/clear mids/highs.

Cons: Flimsy grill, which I don't use anyhow. They look much better without it.

Other Thoughts: I bought a pair of the Monitor 40's, and was so impressed that I got these. Last year I bought the RTI a9's, but returned them after a couple weeks. The midrange woofers looked like they were gonna pop out of the cabinet when I put some watts to the speakers. The Monitor 70's take what I give them and handle it easily. I have a Yamaha Aventage RX-a840 and it has no issues getting bass out of these speakers. Nice clear sound from these, with the perfect amount of bass. I listen to Zydeco, Rock, and Pop music, and it all sounds great. Buy these while they are still available. You won't regret your purchase at all. Cheers!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent speakers!

Pros: Excellent sound quality at all volumes, very versatile, clean style, great cabinet quality! Works excellently bi-amped and sound great on their own or in a surround set up! These are the best speakers for the price!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I purchased a pair of Monitor 70 series II's to replace an older pair of Monitor 70 series I's that I had sold about a year ago and these do not disappoint, especially for the price!

5 out of 5 eggsMonitor70 Series II

Pros: For the price these speakers are awesome.

Cons: Nothing.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had any trouble with them and my Onkyo 727 has been able to keep up without any problems. Just be aware if your amp is a little on the wimpy side, these babies are hungry.

5 out of 5 eggsThee are great speakers

Pros: I just upgraded my speaker system for my home theater. I had old 90's era Infinity 5.1. I purchased these, a PSW505 sub and CS10 Center channel along with new receiver.
This system is AWESOME!!! I use primarily for Home theater watching movies but music is great also. I can crank these up and virtually no distortion. they actually sound better the louder they go. The monitor series is excellent, 'm glad I didn't go up to the TSi300 model. I know they say they are matched better to the center channel but I think the monitor series gives you more bang for the buck and they do sound great !!!

Cons: None here !!!

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful

Pros: I received the monitor 70 series II a few days after new years. The speakers arrived in perfect condition, no damage to the grills.

I'm using a Denon 2312CI to drive two Monitor 70 II (front), one CS2 (Center) and two Monitor 30 II (Back Surround). My Denon 2312CI 7.2 claims 105 Watt per channel. Even though actual Watt ratings are lower than what is advertised (For just about any receiver) , all speakers sound great in a 5.1 setup. I have to admit, at first I was concerned that my Denon would not have enough power to run the Monitor 70s II. I live in a townhome, living room = 15 x 15 ft. More than enough power and sound for my needs, and like many, I need my audio to sound its best in all listening areas. I'm SO glad I did not pay for a higher powered AVR or External Amp. (The Denon 2312CI does not support external amplification)

Though, please note: When I first setup my speakers, the sound stage was underwhelming. Once I ran the auto speaker configuration, and Denon's Audessy calibration completed, the sound coming from the speakers is now exactly what I was hoping.

Anyway, Great sound & perfect size for my living space

Cons: None so far.
