The name “Monitor” is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging—all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. The newly reborn Monitor Series II is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, with vinyl veneer finishes, modern dark grey faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

  • newegg Slim, High Efficiency Design The Polk Audio Monitor70B features a slim tower design with a footprint of less than one square foot to fit your flat-panel TV, plasma monitors and other thin-line home cinema components. High efficiency design allows the Monitor70B to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. Bold, fat stabilizer feet ensure stability on carpet or hard floors for more precise bass response and superior imaging.
  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio Monitor70B boasts four 6.5" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and midrange clarity with lower distortion. And a 1-inch Fabric/Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Dome Tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • newegg Enhanced Features The Polk Audio Monitor70B features small-diameter driver design that delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, “box-less,” three-dimensional sound. Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾"-thick baffles ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies. Critically Tuned Flared Port minimizes port noise (“chuffing”) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio Monitor70B can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid Speakers -- Does Take A Powerful AMP

Pros: -Rich clear lows, mids, and highs.
-Good sound reproduction.
-Spikes in response curve, but good for price.

**UPDATE**
I really love these speakers. I originally took a star off because they did tend to shut-down my amp, but after investing in some proper wiring and reflecting realizing this was my own amateurism rather than any failing on the products side I have come back to give it the 5 stars it deserves.

Cons: -Big... They are big speakers.
-They take a lot of power to run properly. My amp was fairly upset (RX-V1500), but I managed to get it to work (overload if I REALLY blast them).

**UPDATE**
After using for over a year, the cons are the same but don't bother me. The large size is actually very pleasing to me now, and the response curve is ideal for movie theater purposes, vinyl play back, and as computer speakers. I am certain there are much more advanced/expensive options that might provide better fidelity, but I won't find out for a while because I am just so satisfied with how these sound to me.

Other Thoughts: I'd definitely buy them again.

5 out of 5 eggsExceptional, Remarkable Sound Quality At This Price!!!

Pros: Best speaker you are going to find at this price range.
The bass is exceptional if you have a powerful enough receiver. I didn’t think these produced a lot of bass until I upgraded from a Denon AVR-1912 to Onkyo TX-NR838. I ran these in Full Band Mode, subwoofer off to see what they would do. They will produce room rumbling bass that you can feel. I am amazed that the 6 ½ inch drivers can produce that much bass. But that’s not all. The highs are crystal clear, and the midrange is very nice. These speakers will not distort at higher volume levels.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: If you are on a small budget like I am, get these while they are still available. The sound these speakers produce is outstanding at this price. I paid $360.00 for the pair.
My setup:
Onkyo TX-NR838
Fronts - Polk Monitor 70 Series II
Center - Polk CS2 Series II
Rears - Polk Monitor 40 Series II
Sub –Polk PSW505

5 out of 5 eggs5 yr. Usage Report...

Pros: Excellent bang for the buck. I got mine for $149.99 ea. and free shipping.
Have had Polk for a long time so I'm biased, but they still sound better than other speakers costing hundreds more.
Set up right, they have one of the best soundstages around, and the midrange is sweet.
Contrary to popular opinion, I find the bass to be exemplary after being well broken in. I have my Dayton 10" 125w sub turned off for most listening material.

Cons: The only con I can think of is that I would like to have seen adjustable spikes incorporated into the feet. The fixed hard plastic spikes used have to be shimmed on hard floors. a pita!

Other Thoughts: I have a set of the Cherry finish M70's Series II, purchased 5 years ago. They are powered by a Pioneer VSX-921 7.1 receiver putting out 80w per channel.

Fronts - Polk M70 Ser. II
Center - Polk CS2 Ser. II
Rears - Polk Monitor 5Jr. +
Sub - Dayton Sub 10 125W

Sounds fantastic together. Even my old ca. 1988 5Jr +'s blend perfectly with the newer speakers. You can't go wrong with Polk Audio.

5 out of 5 eggsMade Me Love Music Again

Pros: Let me start by saying that I am a 50 year old male that has been listening to music since a very young age. Like many I have seen and heard some very good systems over the years. But like many I never wanted to spend the money to have those type systems. These speakers make me feel like I did!!! I was amazed at the sound they produced. The highs were crisp and clean. The mids were tight also. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND a sub with these though. The bottom was just not there without it.

Cons: Cant say that I have found any weaknesses.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome

Pros: Straight to the point---- connect these to a powerful amplifier. I recommend ADCOM GFA555 Add a KLIPSCH sw-112 subwoofer (because u will need one. These speakers are slim and have 4 drivers and a tweeter and sound great but I don't care what anyone said u need a sub). Add a BBE 442I and your going to smile for a long time.

Cons: Polk audio makes better speakers but for the price you cannot beat these.

Side note... Polk audio speakers are awesome but their powered subwoofers suck! For subs go with KLIPSCH.

5 out of 5 eggsTop Notch!!

Pros: Very Cristal clear sound, amazing look, they are build to last.
Great bass to you don't really need a very loud subwoofer with those.
At that price you cant beat this, i decide to buy another one today since its on sale, buy with confidence you wont regret it!!!

Cons: This speaker are big, make sure to check the spect before buying, its about 50lbs each
this is the suprise every time with polk audio, they look smaller in the picture, but it is not a cons, i really love it and wont complaint at all.

Other Thoughts: I completely change all my home theater for Polk Audio, i had a BOSE system and i can truly ear vey very much improvement!

Go for it without a doubt

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: For the money it will be impossable to beat these, after a month I'm convinced the only thing that can sound better than these 70's is the Angels singing in heaven, so until then

Cons: Absolutly none

Other Thoughts: Cs2 series 2 center channel, 40's for the rear, these 70's up front, psw12 bring up the bass. My friends think I spent thousands.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat for the price

Pros: I have some great speakers, everything from magnepan flat panels, mirage 5.1, but i use these 70 ii's for my fronts of my 7.1 system, which i'm making 9.1 with 2 more 70's i'm buying now. All the front wide, back rears are 40's, but i was using 40's as my surround as well. The whole system sounds great as all the speakers are broken in well over a year now. Except for these new 70's that i just bought. Of course there are better speakers, but these black friday prices are usually pretty good and the speakers are decent enough to play both music and watch movies, which i do more of with these. I paired all the speakers with a cs10 center and psw 660 12" sub which is awesome.

Cons: not much at this price point

Other Thoughts: As many have said, the towers aren't the best for super low frequencies, you're not gonna be thumping some super low bass, so get a subwoofer to complement these and the whole system will sound great.
