The name “Monitor” is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging—all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. The newly reborn Monitor Series II is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, with vinyl veneer finishes, modern dark grey faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

  • newegg Slim, High Efficiency Design The Polk Audio Monitor70B features a slim tower design with a footprint of less than one square foot to fit your flat-panel TV, plasma monitors and other thin-line home cinema components. High efficiency design allows the Monitor70B to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. Bold, fat stabilizer feet ensure stability on carpet or hard floors for more precise bass response and superior imaging.
  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio Monitor70B boasts four 6.5" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and midrange clarity with lower distortion. And a 1-inch Fabric/Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Dome Tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • newegg Enhanced Features The Polk Audio Monitor70B features small-diameter driver design that delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, “box-less,” three-dimensional sound. Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾"-thick baffles ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies. Critically Tuned Flared Port minimizes port noise (“chuffing”) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio Monitor70B can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome

Pros: Straight to the point---- connect these to a powerful amplifier. I recommend ADCOM GFA555 Add a KLIPSCH sw-112 subwoofer (because u will need one. These speakers are slim and have 4 drivers and a tweeter and sound great but I don't care what anyone said u need a sub). Add a BBE 442I and your going to smile for a long time.

Cons: Polk audio makes better speakers but for the price you cannot beat these.

Side note... Polk audio speakers are awesome but their powered subwoofers suck! For subs go with KLIPSCH.

5 out of 5 eggsTop Notch!!

Pros: Very Cristal clear sound, amazing look, they are build to last.
Great bass to you don't really need a very loud subwoofer with those.
At that price you cant beat this, i decide to buy another one today since its on sale, buy with confidence you wont regret it!!!

Cons: This speaker are big, make sure to check the spect before buying, its about 50lbs each
this is the suprise every time with polk audio, they look smaller in the picture, but it is not a cons, i really love it and wont complaint at all.

Other Thoughts: I completely change all my home theater for Polk Audio, i had a BOSE system and i can truly ear vey very much improvement!

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: For the money it will be impossable to beat these, after a month I'm convinced the only thing that can sound better than these 70's is the Angels singing in heaven, so until then

Cons: Absolutly none

Other Thoughts: Cs2 series 2 center channel, 40's for the rear, these 70's up front, psw12 bring up the bass. My friends think I spent thousands.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat for the price

Pros: I have some great speakers, everything from magnepan flat panels, mirage 5.1, but i use these 70 ii's for my fronts of my 7.1 system, which i'm making 9.1 with 2 more 70's i'm buying now. All the front wide, back rears are 40's, but i was using 40's as my surround as well. The whole system sounds great as all the speakers are broken in well over a year now. Except for these new 70's that i just bought. Of course there are better speakers, but these black friday prices are usually pretty good and the speakers are decent enough to play both music and watch movies, which i do more of with these. I paired all the speakers with a cs10 center and psw 660 12" sub which is awesome.

Cons: not much at this price point

Other Thoughts: As many have said, the towers aren't the best for super low frequencies, you're not gonna be thumping some super low bass, so get a subwoofer to complement these and the whole system will sound great.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Sound

Pros: The full band sound and range is great. Have had these on the wishlist for a year or two and finally pulled the trigger. Played some demo blu-rays of concert footage in DTS HD Master and the sound and drum acoustic was incredible. I'm very pleased with these as a pair.

Cons: none, always have loved Polk Audio and have never gone wrong with them.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat speakers!

Pros: The first reason for posting... I also had broken grills on the 70s, as others are mentioning. (The 40s and the CS2 I also bought came intact.) On a whim, I decided to read some reviews on the speakers. Then, I read on another post that the warranty is 2 years but through Newegg it's 5. You can contact Polk Audio for replacement grills if they were broken. They asked for proof, since I didn't notify them right away (bought the speakers in 2011) and I emailed them my Newegg invoice and a few days later I received some nice, unbroken grills to put on my 70s!
Just contact them closer to the date of purchase (with 1/2 a year) and they won't even bother w/ all the paperwork (as Customer Service Rep. Ken also mentioned in my email).

Great sound. Got them paired w/ 2 sets of monitor40s, a center CS2 and a Bic America Acoustech PL-200. All hooked up to a Pioneer VSX-1021-K 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver, which hasn't pooped out on me yet.

Great deal on speakers if you wait till Thanksgiving. YMMV. But, usually waiting till holidays will net you some $$ savings.

When friends who know their sound and speakers come over or see pics of my setup, they'll give me props. Sound is great. Pop in a movie w/ a great soundtrack and it's like I'm at the movies w/o the overwhelming smell of overpriced popcorn and sticky shoes. (I also used to work at a movie theater.) The sound is holding up after 4 years, though I watch less movies now.

Cons: they're too cheap?

Other Thoughts: I thought I wrote on this before, but I couldn't find my review.

You won't be disappointed!

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Garbage

Pros: No Pros

Cons: The sound is more worse than my Toyota's manufacturer speakers. And Toyota is in the business of making cars, not speakers. The sound is child's play. I would never buy a Polk speaker again.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent for the price

Pros: These are a very nice low budget speaker. Polk has done a fine job with the Monitor series. I purchased these 2 years ago for under three hundred bucks for the pair. My first instinct was purchase the Klipsch rf 30. I'm glad i bought these first. Good mid-ranges and highs. The speakers are visually appealing thin and tall. The sound stage is good quality. The build is good nice tight cabinets the grills are easy off easy on,

Cons: Like I said the speakers are non directional as the sound produced is bleeding out in all directions. These things are very power hungry too. You need to pump up the wattage for them to sound good. A good amp is a prerequisite 100+ watts per channel should suffice. If you are looking at purchasing these speakers for a home theater you will need a Sub wolfer. Last year reading through some of the reviews I noticed allot of folks losing tweeters, My take on that would be underpowered amps.
One other thing, being so thin and tall the speakers are very easily knocked over. Be Carful or you will be repairing your walls. They make nice diamond shaped holes in your drywall.

The Klipsch RF 30s do sound a little better to me. But like everything that is up to your preference. Everyone has a different ear.

Other Thoughts: All in all for the price point these are a good entry level speaker. The sonic expansion is noticeable but not so much that the speaker get muddy, The highs are acceptable and the mid range kicks, the lows are lacking any deep down booming house shaking bass, For listening to rock jazz and hip hop no issues, where i feel they fall short is classical and heavy instrumental 40s era music and opera .
If you are looking for a bargain, know going in that these are not an audiophile type speaker. Then these are a good deal with an appealing good quality sound. You shouldn't be disappointed.
