The name “Monitor” is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging all at a price that made great sound available to everyone.

The newly reborn Monitor Series is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, modern Titanium faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound. The CS1 center speaker has been designed to be the perfect match for Monitor Series speakers in multi-channel systems.

  • newegg High Efficiency Design High efficiency design allows the Pock Audio CS1B to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. Five-way binding post connectors allow for more secure hook-up options.
  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio CS1B boasts two 5.25" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and midrange clarity with lower distortion. And a 1-inch Fabric/Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Dome Tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • newegg Enhanced Features The Polk Audio CS1B features non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾"-thick baffles to ensure cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Critically Tuned Flared Port minimizes port noise (“chuffing”) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio CS1B can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference. Reversible-design cabinets can be turned upside down to aim “up” when placed under a video monitor.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid addition

Pros: Solid build quality - as expected
Excellent value for money

Cons: None. I haven't had an issue with this speaker.

Other Thoughts: Unless you are an absolute audiophile, you will not notice the difference between this model and the next step up unless you drive your system hard and often. I get the most out of this product when using it for music.

Disclaimer: I love turning up films LOUD during my favourite sequences. Many bluray offerings do not give a pure 'stereo' sound as a sound option, so if you're still doing a standard Left, Right, Center, Sub setup, be wary of getting this speaker as a center channel if you mostly use it for home audio in a movies-and-games context. Many modern systems expect you to have a 5.1 or higher setup to get the most out of their sound channels. If you're simply listening to a lot of music and this is part of your setup, then it is a very quality speaker in its price range.

5 out of 5 eggscant beat the sound for 60$

Pros: wanted a def tech 2000 center but after seeing this going on sale for 60, and it having matching size speakers as my def tech towers,i jumped. so far they sound great (better without the grill)

Cons: bit large.

5 out of 5 eggsNot too shabby

Pros: Good low end for DEEP VOICES. Pleasant mids and highs. Not as harsh as plastic tweeters. Matches well with Polk T-15 fronts and surrounds. When you consider how much signal comes though a center, it makes sense to go a little bigger. Slim cabinet. It's deep, but it fits my media center nicely. For $60 bucks, you could do a LOT worse. Thanks again, Newegg!

Cons: Nothing so far.

5 out of 5 eggsRemarkable Center Speaker

Pros: I scooped this up two weeks ago and it has been nothing short of fantastic. I have this paired with a Sony STR-710 and two Polk Audio tsi200 bookshelf speakers on a bi-amp connection. Movies and games sound clear, crisp, and not muddled.

Cons: My only complaint is the grill. It's a laced plastic all beneath the cloth. I wish Polk Audio had made the grill where the plastic pieces could be absent in front of the drivers and tweeters. Other than that, this was money well spent.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works and its big

Pros: Polk quality and excellent sound. Pairs great with Polk floor loudspeakers, I'm only running 3 speakers at the moment due to space and I can't imagine needing a sub. Well I can imagine it but I doubt my neighbors downstairs would appreciate it :-) Anyhow its a crisp center channel speaker that makes dialog stand out.

Cons: This speaker was LOT larger than I imagined and it wouldn't even fit in front of my TV and I didn't have the space in the unit below the TV so I got a shelf for above the TV. It looks pretty MANCAVEISH - which is not a con I guess :-) I'll get a new TV unit eventually and relocate it below the screen. Whatever it works and sounds great.

4 out of 5 eggsTake off the Speaker Grilles Off

Pros: Okay sound with the cloth speaker grilles on, muffled tweeter and highs.

Very good/ excellent with them off, well worth the money

Cons: Not going to get a lot of low bass out of these but that is understood. You need a subwoofer or forget it.

Other Thoughts: These are fine Center Channel speakers for Monitor 60 or 70, it isn't going to be playing low frequency anyway. the mid and tweeter is okay without covers.

5 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: Great Price. Good Sound, has a lot of bass, may have to adjust the center speakers volume or amps crossovers to adjust this. Definately loud. But for the price, I think it would be tough to beat this without paying 200 dollars more.

Cons: Seems to lack some clarity in the mid ranges, little bit muffled. Bass definitely dominates unless adjusted. Though the tweeter does its job well. But Im comparing it to my floor standing 3 ways that are much more expensive.

4 out of 5 eggsFor the price, I am happy.

Pros: I am giving this a four star rating because of the price I got it for and decent sound. It sounds much better than any 80 dollar speaker, which is what I paid for it.

Cons: It has a sort of muddled sound when you listen close. I notice the difference mostly because my left and rights are DefTech StudioMonitors, which are extremely clean.

Other Thoughts: I will upgrade this speaker in the nearish future, but for now it will be quite sufficient.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for the Price

Pros: Excellent sound reproduction for a center channel. When the speaker(s) are idle, there is no ambient hiss sometimes present on lower grade speakers.

Highs come through clearly while mid-range and low sounds come through with depth and range.

I'm not expecting sub-woofer caliber bass, but these didn't distort when low frequencies hit them.

Cons: I did find the tweeter to be a little underpowered. More often than not, the higher frequencies seemed to come through the mid-range speakers, however when I put my hear right up to it, I could hear sound coming from the tweeter, it just seemed drowned out by the other two speakers.

I consider this a con because I should be able to tell a difference, however others may not as they may enjoy the co-mingled sound of the three speakers working together.

The other issue I felt was necessary to mention was that the mid-range speakers are rated at 55hz as their lowest response rate, these speakers will not really carry at that low range. While I sent lower frequencies to the speaker as a test, they didn't really project it well...meaning low sounds weren't very loud. It's sweet spot is truly 110hz and above.

If you were buying this with the hopes you could possibly get buy without a typical powered (and separate) subwoofer, you should reconsider.
