The name “Monitor” is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging all at a price that made great sound available to everyone.

The newly reborn Monitor Series is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, modern Titanium faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound. The CS1 center speaker has been designed to be the perfect match for Monitor Series speakers in multi-channel systems.

  • newegg High Efficiency Design High efficiency design allows the Polk Audio CS1C to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. Five-way binding post connectors allow for more secure hook-up options.
  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio CS1C boasts two 5.25" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and midrange clarity with lower distortion. And a 1-inch Fabric/Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Dome Tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • newegg Enhanced Features The Polk Audio CS1C features non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾"-thick baffles to ensure cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Critically Tuned Flared Port minimizes port noise (“chuffing”) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio CS1C can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference. Reversible-design cabinets can be turned upside down to aim “up” when placed under a video monitor.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat For What It Is

Pros: I bought this speaker about a year ago when I was putting together a home theater system...5.1. Nothing fancy, and nothing horrendously expensive. This center channel did the job but I ended up getting another speaker that fit my personal needs a little better. Basically, once upon a time there was a war, and both before and after that event I did a lot of hunting for lot of years. I should also probably mention the rock concerts. Long story short: now in my early 60s I use hearing aids and say "Huh?" a lot. What I heard with the Polk was good, but it was just a little garbled. I did some checking on line and in print media and I did some listening around and ended up getting a 3-way replacement with two additional speakers. Now my wife says she notices a little difference, and she has terrific hearing, but I can hear dialogue a whole lot clearer. With the additional speakers, each one has to do less, so it does it better. For most home systems, the Polk would be top notch. But if you are "sonically challenged" due to a misspent youth you might want something with a little more oomph.

Cons: I have no complaints. Real value for the money, which I always find to be true with Polk. Quality of construction is excellent. The "cherry" finish looks nice. Break in time is probably on the order of fifteen hours. This is a really nice center channel speaker, and if it is being phased out, with even average hearing I would jump on it or the speaker that Polk phases in as the replacement.

Other Thoughts: Some people complain about the size of the speaker, and that confuses me. Speakers that you get with theaters in a box are smaller, and there are separates out there also smaller, but the center channel speaker does the grunt's work in a home theater (though it is not crucial if you are a "music only" person), so it needs to be able to pump out some real sound, and smaller speakers just cannot do it. Any center speaker sufficient for even a middlin' sized room will need some heft and bulk to it. Considering what it does, this speaker is not that large.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value for money

Pros: It does a good job in its Center Channel role. You won't be in audio Shangri-La, but on sale for only $60 it sounds very good. Nice, easy-access screw-down speaker inputs. Fit and finish is solid and sleek. Definitely does not look or feel cheap.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It's on the larger side for a center channel speaker which is not necessarily a bad thing since the Center Channel is arguably the most important in a home theater setup. However, for first timers who have never had to consider speaker placement, or for those who have already purchased an entertainment center that can't comfortably handle this unit, it might be worth looking at something else.

5 out of 5 eggsSeemingly untouchable in a small to medium enviorment

Pros: Sale Price. sounds great out the box un-modded. Sounds very good while still within the break-in period.

Cons: The tiny internal speaker wires.

Other Thoughts: Although this Speaker type is'nt designed for deep bass, I must say it hits surprisingly deep notes in my Home Theater and plays Music with such wonderful dynamics it makes me want to weep. I am still breaking it in, but as is, it sounds great with or without any mods...

5 out of 5 eggsWhat an upgrade...

Pros: Great sound, clear dialogue, looks fabulous in cherry finish and terrific value.

Cons: Bigger than I had anticipated. I should have realized due to the 2 x 5.25in woofers. Not really a con but I thought I would mention it.

Other Thoughts: Well last week my 9 year old Denon AVR 485 blew up on me so I decided to buy a new budget amp and went for the Yamaha RX-V373 (purchased from Newegg and terrific amp). Anyhow after setting up the new amp it was obvious that my 9 year old Advent Newvision 5.1 speakers were the week link in my home theater. I visited a local store and listened to a few setups that cost from $800-2000 and really was not impressed, I did however get to hear a few Polk Audio sub woofers that impressed me and for the price I purchased a Polk PSW 10 for $99 and after this there was no turning back. I added the CS1 center and Monitor 50's for the front and Monitor 30's for the back. WOW, first of all, Newegg delivered in 24 hours (advantage of living close to their distribution center) and Newegg had the very best prices. $69 for a center speaker, come on. $79 for a floor standing Monitor 50!! And $69 for a pair of Monitor 30 providing surround sound!!! I immediately threw on my Tru Blood DVD's and was blown away, I then played a few hours of the Walking Dead and finally followed up with the Battlestar Galactica mini series. Awesome. The speakers sounded a little bright for the first 20 hours or so but have loosened up. The sound stage is unbelievable, the sub does not overwhelm the center speaker and the surround effects are amazing. Obviously I am unable to attribute the sound on speakers alone, the amp is a key ingredient, however the speakers look unbelievable in cherry finish and sound fantastic. I am not an audiophile by any means, just a regular Joe who likes watching movies at home. I do not have the budget of the true audiophile and was reluctant to spend a huge amount of money on home theater upgrades. The cost for my 5.1 surround upgrade was ridiculously cheap and the quality of sound just blows me away, I have a huge grin on my face now every time I sit down to watch the TV, even if it is depressing news! $395 for 5.1 speakers!!! $249 for the Yamaha amp. Come on!!! Win Win situation... I looked at the Energy Take Classic 5.1 which retailed at $399 but I am so happy I went this route instead.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Center Channel

Pros: First of all it looks sexy as hell. And it sounds great with dialogue on sports, tv shows, movies and music. It has some bass, but does not make voices sound too bassy. The highs are crisp and the bass is punchy. For this price it is a great buy.

Cons: No cons for me.
