Other Thoughts: I am gradually upgrading my Polk 6570 Theater System and the front main speakers were the first, couldn't be happier - awesome in my apartment when combined with the 8" Sub-Woofer in the 6750 System.

The front mains sound great now, and I just ordered the Polk CS2 since it's on sale at this time, and it has the same components to match the RTi6 - next I'll need a 7 channel receiver......

Pros: These are great sounding bookshelf speakers for the price. I've ended up buying three pairs while they were priced below $200.
Better midrange then most speakers in this price range, good bass response for this size speaker, but perhaps a tad bright on the highend.
The pair that I use in my bedroom I don't use with a subwoofer and I get very reasonable bass out of it.
Couple it with a subwoofer or in a 5.1 system (i use a Csi3 as a center and RTi4's as rears) and you have a great sounding low-cost system.
Highly recommended if you can snag them while on sale.

I have had a Polk 6.5" component system for car audio which I installed into Boston Acoustics home speaker cabinet and MAN it rocked.

I think they are still selling this same speaker system in an new enclosure for around $350-400 as an RTiA3- why pay 200+ bux MORE for a new, sexier enclosure when it probably sounds the same? I might buy a few of these and experiment with building my own enclosures just because they're so cheap.

Pros: The strongest point of these Polks is definitely their midrange. Been listening to them all day, critically, and have yet to find any significant weakness there. The bass on these speakers is actually better than I thought given some reviews, but if you are a rapper, no bookshelf speaker is going to make you happy. For rock/pop/jazz the bass is fine. Bass seems to start to roll off at about 60hz; whether there is any improvement with “break-in” remains to be seen. For home theater these would be fine as mains with a sub set to crossover at 80hz.

Cons: OK they are just a bit on the bright side; however, I’m running these through an Onkyo receiver (which some say are also “bright”) and I’ve got them mounted to the wall in an office where I’m sitting only a few feet away – i.e. positioning about as bad as it gets. Better positioning would definitely tone down the brightness, but it’s really not that much of an issue.

These speakers are heavy (20# each) and deep (14”, grills on). Frankly I would not be inclined to trust the mounting hardware Polk ships with these. I’m using 1/8” SD “sleeve type hollow wall anchors” (Molly Bolts) which are supposed to have up to 30# capacity, and I’m still a bit nervous.

Other Thoughts: These are being used primarily for music in my home office. Upgraded from Polk Monitor 30’s, and what a difference. The 30’s sound pretty good for a small, budget bookshelf speaker, whereas the RTI6’s sound great, period.

*Keyhole for wall mounting built in, and comes with screws and rubber feet for bookshelf use
*Excellent surround speakers in a 5.1 or 7.1 setup

Cons: *Binding posts, like all the RTI speakers I've owned, tend to have larger holes for banana plugs. Some banana plugs aren't wide enough to make good contact, leading to speakers cutting in and out. I had to buy several different types until I found ones that were a tight fit. My housekeeper kept knocking out my center channel by accident while dusting this way; very annoying.
*I don't like the plastic front, I keep the grills on. This was remedied in the RTI A series, but those are $$$
*Audiophiles might call them a bit "bright".
*Requires good amplification to really sing (this is true of the entire RTI line)
*If you feed them a poor audio source like over-compressed MP3s you'll hear it, especially in the high frequencies where compression artifacts become glaring. Feed it an excellent source and you'll be blown away. These speakers are very unforgiving when it comes to source quality.
*I wish the "feet" on the lower back for wall mounting were rubber rather than hard plastic.

Other Thoughts: I have owned a pair of RTI12's (the top end of this line) with a CSI5 center for the last year. I've been using a pair of modified Sony tower speakers (replaced the tweeter and midrange and installed a proper crossover) for surrounds and some Sony bookshelfs as rear surrounds. Despite the upgrades, the RTI6 is superior.

After I let them break in a bit I ended up disabling the rear surrounds because I found the Sony bookshelf speakers caused more harm to the soundfield than good. As soon as these came up on a promo code again I grabbed another pair, so now I'll have a complete Polk RTI seven channel setup.

Note that while the RTI6 run fine off my AV receiver's amplification, but I have a 3 channel Emotiva XPA-3 amp I bought to give the front speakers more power (the RTI12s especially are very power hungry). If you catch the bug and go for a full 5.1 or 7.1 setup with the RTI (or the newer RTI A) series you will bring most AV receivers to their knees at more than moderate volumes.

Pros: Honest sound.
Not too coloured (keep in mind, no consumer audio speaker is 100% uncoloured).
Nice mid-bass!! Passed my "own-grown mid-bass test" with flying colors (which consists of a song where, as part of the mix, there are two 7-strings guitar tracks playing a similar riff on 2 different octaves)... many other speakers I've listened failed this i.e. you couldn't tell there were actually 2 guitar tracks playing.

Cons: None really. Especially for the price.

Other Thoughts: Re: Frank Doghearty's review... Stupidly erroneous claims such as "not for music (unless you have not heard better)" and "not good for decent/good amplifiers" as well as pure non-sense like "the sound image still vibrates (in a range of about 5%)" just can't be taken seriously. What exactly does ""vibration" of the sound image" means, anyways? And that bogus measurement of 5% ? Besides, Mr. Doghearty's HK AVR-240 is a budget receiver; especially for music, maybe he should try using better preamp & power before bashing the speakers. As Mr Doghearty pointed out, the RTi6's efficiency is somewhat low at 89dB. On my side, I've fed these little guys through both an Onkyo TX-NR1007 (135WRMS/ch) and an Emotiva XPA-5 (200WRMS/ch) and I can tell you, for 150$ you won't find a better pair of speaker, period.
In the studio I mix on monitors that are, to my ears anyway, more revealing and truthfull by quite a margin than these, but at 12 times the cost, it is expected.

Pros: construction, imaging, non-metalic tweet, efficiency, cost

Cons: at this price, none

Other Thoughts: i use dynaudio air6 and 15s all day... of course they are better, but these rti6 at $140 are impossible to beat at 1/20th the cost and have good imaging and real / neutral sound

Other Thoughts: In order to compensate for the raving reviews, here is something more realistic.

After the speakers were burnt in, the vibrating sound stage smoothed out, but there is not much width and height to it. The holes in the midrange remained. The midrange has a characteristic coloration that bothers me. Definitely not good for music.

Still, these speakers work fine as centers (2 for center in a serial circuit), sides, and rears with my HK AVR-240. You will not find anything comparable in this price range moving the same amount of air as the RTi6.

Pros: Good sounding speaker. Best choice for TV set up using stereo sound only. Speakers can be bi-wired if needed.

Cons: Speakers are quite deep so know your measurements.
