Polk Audio Three-Way Ported Floorstanding Loudspeaker
The name "Monitor" adorned the speakers that first made Polk famous. Monitor means simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging (all at a surprising price). This new Monitor is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice-matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish look that complements today's flat screen technology, with wood grain finishes and modern Titanium faces. Built for sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

The New Standard for Classic Performance

The Monitor 65T is a great compromise between size and performance (performance always comes out on top). With a high efficiency enclosure design, the 65T reveals the classic Polk sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. For stereo music, or big home theater front-stage thrills.

Monitor 65T Features:

  • 1-Inch (25mm) silk/polymer composite Dynamic Balance® dome tweeter with powerful neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • Three 5-1/4-inch composite Dynamic Balance drivers are lightweight and stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and lower distortion.
  • Multiple small-diameter driver design delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, box-less, three-dimensional sound.
  • Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with 3/4-inch thick baffles ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Tower models feature additional front-to-back and side-to-side internal bracing for further reduced resonance.
  • Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies.
  • Dual 5-way binding post connectors, allowing for more secure hook-up options, as well as bi-wiring and bi-amping flexibility.
  • Monitor Series speakers are "modern living accessories" that make a stylish statement in either black or cherry wood grain finish, with titanium faces.
  • Critically tuned flared port minimizes port noise (chuffing) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • All Polk products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry’s most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

5 out of 5 eggsGood towers

Pros: These are good tower loudspeakers, which put out a nice, clean sound. They actually put out a fair amount of bass too, considering the 5.25" drivers (certainly enough to shake the room). I'm actually using these as my rear L/R channels. They can get loud too, as I was only able to crank my volume up a little more than half way before I reached my eardrums' limit. The cherry finish looks really sharp. Anyway, I am pleased with these speakers...this is a good value for the budget conscious shopper.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I would actually recommend using the Polk New Monitor 75Ts for your front L/R channels, especially if you're going to use the 25C for the center channel and will be without a subwoofer (such as is the case with me). Without equalization adjustments, I think the 25C can be a little overbearing for the 65Ts as fronts, but that is just my opinion. Audio can be very subjective between different people.

3 out of 5 eggsgood but the 75Ts are better

Pros: Good for their size. I had a pair for a few days when the 75Ts were suddenly for sale at a price that could not be beat. So I packed these up. There is a noticeable improvement in the 75Ts.

They have good bass but are best at midrange. A subwoofer adds fun to the collection.

Cons: At the discount price of $150 each they were a steal, at full price maybe not so much (I paid $300 each about a week before the sale, remember that the advertised price is for one single speaker, not a pair).

Other Thoughts: Prices on speakers are very volatile. My recommendation, unless you are in a huge hurry, is to subscribe to Newegg notifications, and then pick out between three and five different speakers here that get good reviews from a large number of people. Then, wait for one of these sets to go on sale, and buy it. Newegg is very aggressive about putting a good set of speakers into the e-blast deals once a month or so, they want to sell 'em and you want to buy 'em at a good price, so take a deep breath and sit back and watch. Also read the reviews carefully because many buyers will indicate the sale price which will give you a good idea of what to wait for.

It is still the case that the speakers are the most important part of the system and you should get the best you can. But if you let Newegg come to you with a deal that you just can't turn down you'll be happier with the price then if you just click and buy. Most mid-range speakers are pretty good, so check out some of the other big names, such as Klipsch, and then religiously watch your Newegg notifications. In a month or two you'll find a real deal.

5 out of 5 eggsThese are bangin' speakers

Pros: These speakers put out a very ambient and high grade sound; they can handle LOUD music of any sort. The lows and highs are accurately represented and travel evenly throughout space - just give more power and they'll travel even further!

These also have a good solid craftsmanship behind them. You can piggy back on these! I can put more speakers on top of these! That's pretty awesome - the plates for the piggybacking look like they're gold plated; not sure if that's really the case but still, these guys were engineered really well.

Cons: These aren't cons, but can be construed as so since some people think differently on how drivers need to be constructed:

I don't think monitors are meant to really have a house rumbling bass... that's why I have my system set up where they bass is easily adjusted with a dial.

That said, some people say the lows on these is lackluster... If you want bass, supplement these with a nice sub of your choice (I'd look for a nice cherry finished one by Polk!)

Other Thoughts: I really think that Polk might need some jerks in marketing to push their product more; they make a great product! Just don't let that marketing change your great engineering!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great sound, especially for the price! Bass is a perfect balance with my sub.

Cons: My wife was angry I bought more awesome stuff?

Other Thoughts: Using them with the Pioneer SC-1222-K A/V Receiver and MonsterCable connections.
Have them only in normal speaker setup mode, but I didn't realize that I can Bi-Amp them as well.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Beautiful build, beautiful sound, excellent price with free shipping.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I've read elsewhere that some people, with children, were worried that the 65T's might present a sort of tipping hazaard. That's a commendable concern but one that doesn't apply with these 65T's. While my children are grown, I can affirm that they've put my 65T's through the "Hey, Moose, watch what you're doing !!" test and passed. : " )
The sound from these speakers is WAY beyond their price point. Very smooth, clear, and sharp but not to the point of harshness. The three 5 1/4 midrange drivers perform very well and deliver excellent vocals for both music and home theater. .
I've read elsewhere that some reviewers feel that the bass is lacking. I would have to disagree, but each listener would have to make that judgement for themselves. If you're looking for "Thumpa-Thumpa" picture rattling bass, then you might consider looking elsewhere. If you're looking for smooth transition from the mid-range drivers to the lower frequencies, than I'd recommend the 65T's.
For home theater, we did purchase a Polk PSW505 subwoofer. It pairs extremely well with our 65T's and also provides excellent sound, especially considering the price, for those movie moment explosions, car crashes, etc.
As you can see, our system (and others in the house) consist of Polk Audio speakers. Many reasons why: the sound, of course, but also build quality, price point, and the service one gets from Polk Audio Customer Service. Possibly the best CS in the business.
The 65T's will not disappoint you. I would suggest also purchasing a Polk PSW505 subwoofer to make for a completely stellar purchase.
Good luck with your choices !

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the wait

Pros: These speakers are worth the wait (I got them on sale). The sound coming from these speakers are comparable to Bose speakers but at an affordable price. I felt like a deaf person being able to hear. The clarity was wonderful.

Cons: Just the wait for these speakers to go on sale.

5 out of 5 eggs great speakers!

Pros: Great sound! I have been drooling over the sound these things deliver! I love bass so I have a small sub paired with these and the sound is phenomenal!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Be sure to break in the drivers by playing music and movies through these for a while. I played through them for about 3 weeks and there is a big difference in sound once broken in
