Polk Audio Two-way Center Channel Loudspeaker

The name "Monitor" adorned the speakers that first made Polk famous. Monitor means simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging (all at a surprising price). This new Monitor is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance

loudspeakers for music and home theater.

They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice-matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish look that complements today's flat screen technology, with wood grain finishes and modern Titanium faces. Built for sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

The New Standard for Classic Performance

Not only does this high efficiency center channel speaker design deliver more detailed high frequency response for more realistic imaging, but the heavy duty enclosure is reversible for more flexible placement options above or below your television.

Monitor 25C Features:

  • 1-inch (25mm) silk/polymer composite Dynamic Balance® dome tweeter with powerful neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • Dual 6-1/2-inch Dynamic Balance drivers are lightweight and stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and lower distortion.
  • Multiple small-diameter driver design delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, "box-less" three-dimensional sound.
  • Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with 3/4-inch thick baffles ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Enclosure is reversible for optimal placement above or below your television screen.
  • Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies.
  • 5-way binding post connectors, allowing for more secure hook-up options.
  • Monitor Series speakers are "modern living accessories" that make a stylish statement in either black or cherry wood grain finish, with titanium faces.
  • Critically tuned flared port minimizes port noise ("chuffing") for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • All Polk products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry's most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

4 out of 5 eggsQuality Consumer Grade Sound

Pros: Robust and clear sound for the dollars spent. That said, were the 25C not on sale for a buck thirty / free ship I would have kept shopping. But since it was - it is a solid choice for folks like ourselves upgrading from 14 year old, cheap microspeakers and not able or willing to pay for audiophile grade like Focal, Emotiva, Wharfedale, etc
Our 25C is still breaking in and produces a much richer sound now after a month than when it was new. The highs seemed flat but upping the treble made up for most of that, and, they need time. Cranking some Pink Floyd through it helped.

Cons: None if you do your research and know what you are buying.

Other Thoughts: Paired with JBL 4408 fronts and a Velodyne EQ10 subwoofer.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat center speaker. Clear sound. Awesome deal!

Pros: I only post reviews when I really like something, or when I hate it! This channel speaker falls into the 1st category big time!
I've been using it for about 10 days. The speaker is great. I have it paired with Monitor 50s and it tends to overpower them a bit but when you play around with the receiver's settings that can change. I have mine reduced to -4db and this makes them on par. The voice quality is very clear, the speaker does need some break in time to truly shine - it is getting better and better. Here's a shortlist of pros:
- Price (got mine for ~130)
- Weight (in my book this means quality!)
- Sound is full and clear. Watching TV is great, I no longer need to put on the subtitles, I can hear every detail
- This thing is built like a tank, and it can take up to 175W so if you do't overpower or underpower it (google about clipping) you will enjoy it for a long time.

Cons: The speaker is huge, really! For me this isn't a con at all as I have a stand above the TV and it sounds amazing from there. Also due to the shape of it, if you have a hard floor surface, you can leave it under the TV but upside-down and it will face upward at a distance of about 6-7 feet it will be at the perfect level. But again, for some the large size may be a problem.

Other Thoughts: This speaker is large, inefficient (meaning that it needs lots of power) and relatively cheap but produces excellent sound that fills my entire room (25x20) and is has a great build quality. I am powering it with Marantz SR5008 (100 WPC @ 8 ohm) and I am able to turn it up to levels that I can't tolerate for more than a minute or two. I can also turn it way down - and still hear clear dialog. Is there something better? No doubt, but it is a great deal and I suspect that once reviews pick up and it becomes popular, price will go up!

Polk audio speakers in general are inefficient (at 90db) and cheaper than the competition but have excellent build quality if you have enough power to drive them you will be amazed at how awesome they sound!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Center Channel Speaker

Pros: Excellent sound and voice production, crisp clear vocals and a lot more bass than you will get from other center channel speakers. Matches my 75T speakers really well. I compared this to my Martin Logan Motion 8 Center Channel that costs 2-3 times what the 25C costs and they sound extremely close, but the Polk is more full bodied sound, it just depends on what you are looking for in a center. The 25C is a "full sound spectrum" whereas other centers may be more mids and highs only. I tested it in my 20 x 20 family room with Polk Tower 75Ts (from Newegg) and did not have to turn it up very much, the projection in the room was great at all volumes. Got it in about 3-4 days from Newegg in perfect condition. Love it so far.

Cons: None at this point. It is very large so you need to make sure you have the space. It fits very well on a table below my screen in my media room.

Other Thoughts: As compared to other centers, I think this has a much wider sound spectrum due to the 2 6 1/2 inch woofers and the rear port. It has a high quality feel to it and weighs almost 20 pounds, representative of quality construction for a solid and deep overall sound.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice center channel speaker

Pros: Excellent sound quality and very clear. Cherry finish is attractive to boot. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone on a budget looking for good speakers.

Cons: None so far; will update my review if any issues crop up.

Other Thoughts: As others have pointed out, this is a large speaker (not a bad thing at all). I got this on sale with Polk New Monitor 75T pair (front sides), 65T pair (rear/sides), and 45B bookshelf speakers (for additional surround or height channels).

I was originally looking at Klipsch Reference speakers, but could not justify the cost at this time. This setup cost me roughly half of that, so I'm very happy.

Paired these New Monitors with a Sony STR-DN1040 AVR, which was rated as the top performing mid-range AVR of 2013.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat center!

Pros: I just added this center to what was a 2.1 setup I have promonitor 70s as fronts and this speaker brought my setup to a whole new levels vocals for movies and music are nice and clear this speaker sounds great!

Cons: It is huge, this could be an issue for some, however not a real con just something to watch out for.

Other Thoughts: Buy it! You won't regret it especially when its as low as $130.
