3 out of 5 eggsGood for a geek

Pros: Plays all the common formats for video that I download. Can record video and a good price.

Cons: Not user friendly.
After installing SATA drive you must connect device to pc for firmware install/upgrade (originally had problems with Win7 had to use WinXP, has been resolved with new firmware).
Remote - small, dose not work well at all angles. some times repeats last button pressed also No buttons on front of box other then to turn off (not on) so as far as I can tell DON'T LOSE THE REMOTE.
Menus are slow when you are looking for your videos. There is a small preview box that will play when item is highlighted but this will slow/freeze box when looking thought your library.
I use this to watch videos from my server over the LAN interface, unit will not save user name/log-on info if you turn it off making me use a weak password
Also it has a trans code server for the pc (ex. To play .wma files) is a pain it renamed and move some shares with out me knowing what it was truly doing.

Other Thoughts: I do actually like this unit (even if I wrote a novel in the cons section). Its small and does what I want it to do . I has some shortfalls that I personally can over look. But this is nothing that my wife, mother/father would be able to understand or use easily. Good for a Geek but no everyone.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Play everything I play throw at it witha few excepts
Works great on my Samsung 50" plasma. What really got my attention was the fact that it could record from an A/V source.

Cons: Not really a con, but it would be nice if there was an eSata interface for for faster transfer.

2 out of 5 eggsDead after 5 Months

Pros: 99% of the time performed as advertised until now. It did have a quirk where if FF to a location it would only play approx 15 seconds then freeze.

Cons: Dead at exactly 5 months since I purchased it. Not 5 months of use. Purchased 11/25/2009. Dead 4/25/2010. Refused to acknowledge the remote correctly. All buttons would cause FF. Would not shut off by remote or power button. After pulling the plug it would never power back on. Emailed Argosy requesting an RMA. No RMA\warranty info on their website. Sent copy of receipt with email

Other Thoughts: I have 3 models of Argosy's Media Players HV359T, HV358T and HV335T. I will not purchase any more Argosy products. The other 2 I have also have minor problems. They all seem to be poor chips or poor chip programming

1 out of 5 eggsTwo DOA's

Pros: None - Units did not work.

Cons: Purchased one unit, was DOA, returned it for replacement RMA. Received second unit, it too was DOA, returned it for full refund.

Other Thoughts: Purchased the Western Digital WDTVLive instead.

1 out of 5 eggsrun away

Pros: none

Cons: can't work out of box have to do a firmware update, then I got to try 3 versions of firmware and only one could see data on the drive. That took 3 hours of my morning. Then it still couldn't play mp4 like it says it could, tech support are something newegg won't allow me to say and don't know anything. He told me it can run them i just have to have the unit connected to my computer to do so, that is why i bought the thing is so i didn't have to use my computer(he couldn't get that).

Other Thoughts: Just bad company lies about what it can support

4 out of 5 eggsNifty... best media player for how I use it...

Pros: First off, all these devices are a bit cranky... That said, this is one of the best I have used so far. It has played everything I have thrown at it, mostly ISO from DVD Shrink (I back up my movies to HDD and toss the DVDs in a rubbermaid tub in the basement for safety from the kids). I upload movies to it from my desktop with wifi no issue (you need to buy a separate wifi adapter, check the other reviews for the specific model). Very sturdy aluminum housing. Video quality depends on how you rip your movie.

Cons: The unit gets hot, even without the drive in it (I highly recommend the seagate 1.5 tb low power drives for this). Some movies will not play audio correctly the first time you kick it off, so you have to stop the movie and start it over again. The fan in the device is useless, I will upgrade as soon as I get some time. The remote sucks, its a credit card style remote. The device is 100% useless if you lose it. The UI looks a bit 1994, but still very usable.

Other Thoughts: As I said, NONE of the media players are 100% perfect, but this is as good as they get. The network connectivity rocks. I recommend hooking up a better fan if you like to tinker.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Plays AVI, DIVX, VOB, MPG files and more. Can setup Photos with music for slideshow. Have external 1.5 GB USB drive hooked to it for even more content. Can network to other computers and NAS devices. Can network to other HV359T devices. Playback in Composite (AV), Component, and HDMI, quality is as good as recorded content quality. Can record through AV input in Low, Med, and High quality. Excellent for saving VHS tapes to Digital, has USB port for fast accessing and arranging files. It names files by Date/Time that you can rename and move to other Directories using the USB control port. (Other USB port is for external USB drive with content).

Cons: Runs warm, so I have a fan blowing on it, that cures that problem. Network speed to upload is not real fast, but hooking to USB port for putting files on drive works fine. You can add your own drive to a case, or buy one with drive built in. Have to set 4:3 or 16:9 output through menu, would be nice to have it just a button push, but a minor issue.

Other Thoughts: I have 3 of these, really like them. Have saves many VHS tape recordings to the drive, they work great.

For under $100, this is an excellent purchase. I paid the $129 for my 3, could have saved a bunch by waiting of course.

4 out of 5 eggsoverall

Pros: compact, case design really is surprisingly enough, good!! decent transfer speed... even the quality of the composite video output is nice and clear
enough.... I purchased two at the same time and they both deliver what
I need... would use this brand and model again... Oh and to the person that was afraid he would loose the remote to easily, Hey guy, just snap it underneath the case as it was designed for!!! remember to put the buttons upward to protect them!!!

Cons: not enough control over the ethernet or firewire connections.. usb neither.. they all could have just a little more to them in the chipset... and they could have been just a little larger case to accommodate some sort of very reliable rechargeable battery to help me out.. I need as portable as possible.. as it is, I have to use an external battery source...

Other Thoughts: the ability to attach to most camcorders out there would have been kewl too..
will maybe upload a finished video soon..

2 out of 5 eggsBad sound quality

Pros: Works as it supposed to be.

Cons: 1. Software installation process is difficult and does not correspond to the manual.
2. Very bad quality of sound it produces. If you want to listen a high quality music then this product is not for you.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Has it's own hard drive enclosure. Plays movies. Has lot's of connections in the back. Comes with dvi cable. If you have a logitech remote it can be programed to use with this.

Cons: Remote sucks. Sometimes the sound doesn't load with the movie. If I go back to the menu and play the movie again the sound will load. Software seems a little buggy. No firmware updates.

Other Thoughts: I bought on sale for $75. Since I have a few old hard drives laying around it was a no brainer. For full price I believe there are better movie players. Read the instalation instructions it's not plug and play.
