5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Plays video_TS folders, with full DVD navigation
Small
Cheap ($30)
HDMI
Reads Mac formatted drives (very nice)

Cons: USB port on front - bad design
No Toslink port, but does have digital coax

Other Thoughts: This player meets my needs, which is to play DVD back ups (SD) with full menu navigation over HDMI. Menu system is easy to use and understand and it works flawlessly. It does not have a network port or wireless, which I knew ahead of time, but for $30 on sale, you can't beat it. I don't know if it does 5.1 over HDMI, but if not I'll upgrade later when I have a 5.1 system.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Seems to work OK on most formats, however does "freeze" every once in a while. Not the best for sure but works well enough for my purposes.

Cons: Occasional freezes, doesn't read all formats but a good entry unit to try out.

Other Thoughts: Catch them on sale and save big bucks........

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: super small, fast, plays basically every type of file out there, inexpensive, convenient, easy menu controls.

Cons: none!

Other Thoughts: i think this thing is amazing. it beats me having to run back to my computer to setup my tv as a secondary monitor then click n drag movies over.

just plug in your external harddrive and go.. easy as pie.

ive tried every file type so dont listen to these other people complaining about it playing limited file types. it plays them all.

not really a negative but i wish they would have utilized the usb port on the back instead of the front.. only for cosmetic reasons so u dont see any cords. i like my setups clean. i might take this thing apart n relocate the port to the rear since there is an opening for it already stamped into the casing.

2 out of 5 eggsNot real HD

Pros: Plays DivX
Has HDMI out

Cons: Does not play H.264 MKV content
NOT HD, just an upscaler

Other Thoughts: From ArgosyUSA web site:
HV676 does not support MKV file extension. Most MKV files have HD contents using H.264 or VC-1 codec. Since HV676’s DSP does not support H.264 or VC-1 codec, MKV file support can not be done by firmware upgrade. Argosy’s HV335T can support HD contents with extensive codec support. For HD application, please consider using HV335T or other HD MediaPlay products.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid!

Pros: Works with every video I've tried so far.
I love it. Videos straight from the internet play on it immediately, no converting.
I attached this to my LCD TV with industrial strength velcro. I can pick up the TV and take it outside to watch movies while in the spa.

Cons: I haven't identified any cons, I truly love this thing.

4 out of 5 eggsIt Works

Pros: All I have tried to use this for is AVI / DIVX. It works. Sometimes I have to unplug it to get it to read the flash drive but it always loads after that is done. Good picture and sound.

Cons: Very Simple. Sometimes requires power reset.

Other Thoughts: I download shows I like and play them on a flash drive. If you want wireless or extremely good picture, you might wanna spend some more money and get something else, if not, this works fine.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding value

Pros: Plays back ripped DVDs just fine, which is what I got it for -- playing back movies in the exercise room without the bother of needing to hunt down the actual DVD (might be in the living room, or maybe the bedroom, or a PC, or who knows where?)

Cons: Can be slow to start, taking 10-20 seconds while it sorts of the file structure of a ripped DVD (just playing back a single, e.g., .AVI file starts almost immediately, though). Remote is a very uninspired design, just a straight grid of mushy rubbery keys.

Other Thoughts: I got this during one of Newegg's seemingly-common sales of this device when it cost about as much as two to three new Disney DVDs. For that price, it's an incredible bargain!

4 out of 5 eggsgood for the price

Pros: simple interface, plays both movies i've tried with it, easy hookup

Cons: it will accept high-res files but looks like it downsamples them to 480i and then outputs them. i had an Xvid Avi that would lose video/audio sync if i tried to fast forward/rewind/pause. unsure if it respects the aspect ratio of the video -- i tried 2 movies so far on an old 480i CRT TV and it looked like it stretched them to fill the screen, when they should have been widescreen.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Nearly useless.

Other Thoughts: Plays practically no formats and only accepts USB input, so cannot be connected to network.

1 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for . . .

Pros: Its very inexpensive considering it has an HDMI output

Cons: Your lucky if one in 10 of your media files will play on it.

Other Thoughts: My friends are having fun getting into media players lately. They all have WD's and I thought i was smart finding a shell shocker deal for this pile on Newegg. It was a shocker alright, almost nothing plays on it. If ur playing a divx .AVI file and your lucky enough to have one encoded in the exact right codec and compression, it will probably play. Anything else, forget it. No support for .mp4 or .wmv or .mpg or .vob or any other video codec you can think of. Maybe one in a hundred of my media files actually played. Can you say . . . Junk ? I bought a WD TV Live Plus instead, WOW, what a difference. That thing is awesome. Plays and Streams any media over my home network. I am not kidding a bit, there is no comparison between this unit and a real media player. Do yourself a favor and save your valuable time. Avoid this at all costs!
